Christianity is a neutered religion. It rarely instills the kind of fervor that Islam does in its followers and in its most extreme form isn't nearly as repressive as can be seen in Muslim states. Islam is just another ideological tool for lefties to use against their right wing/Christian opponents. I still have my long hair and rock n roll attitude and still managed to work my way in to a management gig but it took longer than it would've had I conformed. Still, I had to be more consious of pouring it on thick and sweet to overcome a somewhat unsettling appearance to our older, retired clients.
Your way of conforming was certainly easier and, probably, wiser.
I've often let my "hard-headedness" get in the way.
Regarding young African Americans: I knew there would be trouble when colleges taught "ebonics" as a legitimate course. Cosby, for better or worse, is a much more positive roll model than the old rabble rousers like Jackson and Sharpton.
Give Obama credit: he's a smart guy who educated himself out of the hood. Great role model, as well.

From what I've heard, this wasn't sanctioned by Obama. It was a personal statement made by people campaigning for him. Basically, it gets filed under WGAS but, I'll admit, it doesn't help his campaign because of all the phoney baloney patriots who are more into symbolism than substance.
