One of the arguments for invading Iraq was because Saddam Heusen was killing so many people. So WHAT THE FUCK????? Too bad there wasn't any oil in Darfur...

US President George W Bush has defended his decision not to send troops to the Sudanese region of Darfur, despite what he calls a genocide taking place there.
He called it a "seminal decision" not to intervene with force, taken partly out of the desire not to send US troops into another Muslim country.

Mr Bush was speaking to BBC World News America before flying to Africa.

He also discussed controversy over China's Olympics - saying he would attend the event as scheduled.

After Steven Spielberg withdrew his assistance to the Olympics in protest at China's policy towards Darfur, Mr Bush said he would not be taking a similar stance.

"I view the Olympics as a sporting event," he told the BBC's Matt Frei.

But he added that he would meet Chinese President Hu Jintao and "remind him that he can do more to relieve the suffering in Darfur".

Promoting development

Mr Bush will leave on Friday for his second tour of Africa. He will visit Benin, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana and Liberia.

His first presidential visit was in 2003.

The president will be travelling with his wife, Laura - who has been to the continent five times.

They will visit hospitals, schools and businesses, hoping to show how US investment in health and development programmes has made a real difference to Africans.

US aid to Africa has grown rapidly since Mr Bush entered the White House in 2001. He said on Thursday it had doubled over his first term and was set to double again by 2010.

Mr Bush will not visit Kenya, where inter-ethnic violence erupted after recent disputed elections, or Sudan.

But his aides say he will discuss both crises with African leaders during his trip.

Good to know. Hopefully some of the money is being used to finance job training centers, otherwise the aid will amount to basically just a big welfare check.

For once, I'll agree. Iraq was wrong and Darfur is none of our business.

Wow. What about Kosovo and Nazi Germany? Should we have just kept our noses out of it?

There is oil in the Sudan. If the U.S. wanted a reason to get at that oil we certainly have the reason... mass killings.

The last thing we should do is invade another Muslim country. Let them kill each other.

When we leave Iraq it'll be much worse than what is happening in the Sudan.

Yes on Kosovo.
Regarding Nazi Germany, they were allied with Japan and Japan involved us by attacking Pearl Harbor.

Hitler made a huge mistake when he declared war on the U.S.. He thought by doing that then Japan would declare war on the Soviet Union, they did not.

The Sudan is in Chinas sphere of influence. It's hands off to the US. Our government doesn't give a shit at all about human rights.

How can the Jewish media spend nearly 60 years rehashing and constantly reminding us of the awful genocide in Nazi Germany, but then almost our whole country thinks Darfur is giant mistake.
Maybe if we had an Administration who's VP was the CEO of a company that could profit off of Darfur, we could help those poor bastards out.

We do not have a never ending supply of troops, or money, or patience. The U.S. cannot be expected to jump into every quagmire the world can create.

The Muslim world should deal with this. Egypt, Saudi Arabia. The UAE has money. Call them.

also because going into darfur would upset the chinks. the chinks could stop it tomorrow if they wanted but don't

Isn't this the fucking argument for Iraq?????
The difference is no matter what we would do in Iraq, the rest of the world would still view us as invaders and greedy.
Darfur would raise the perception of America around the world.
As I understand from the Jewish media, we have to stop genocide at all cost then place the survivors of genocide in another country.

I think the evidence is pretty clear that we should stay out of Muslim countries.

No, they could not.

China does not have the military capability to invade the Sudan. To support the Army they would send if they could send one. They would need airlift. A Navy. Both of which are very limited.

China's military just does not have what it takes. If the Sudan was their neighbor they could do something. If they were inclined to.
