Debate: Clinton v Obama - Click HERE to go to the original thread with graphics
Luther
This should make for some good entertainment tonight on CNN. Obama dominated the only previous one-on-one debate and I expect him to be well prepared to do the same tonight. Clinton does not seem very presidential next to him. She is in desperation mode right now so she will have to come out fighting. How Obama counterattacks, if he keeps his poise, will be the key.

sirius question ..has obama accomplished anything in the senate and if so ..what

<sets LOST on tivo>
Reverend Tyler
I think HIllary will definitely be coming out swinging wildy tonight....I think Obama should concentrate mostly on McCain....It will show how he is basically moving beyond Clinton and going on to the general, whereas Hillary will look desperate.
DUDE-HERE
i hope she calls him black obama by accident
artechba
They just said on TV tens of thousands people are trying to get few tickets available
mb33139
Putting myself in Hillary's place, I simply cannot come up with an effective strategy to win... Obama has pretty much painted her in to a tight corner. Looking at this from a logos, pathos and ethos standpoint, I don't see anything she can use successfully in this debate. Her best course of action is not to go "cunty" and stay positive. This way, she can bow out of this race when the time comes and still have enough respect to challenge Harry Reid for the Senate Majority Leader role or Whip.

I bet the TV audience will be huge. The ratings for the previous ones were big.

And

Early voting in Texas up 1,000 percent

Turnout on the first day of early voting was up all across Texas, according to initial numbers from the Secretary of State’s office. But Houston and Dallas were off the charts — the numbers show a 10-fold increase over 2004. In Harris County four years ago, only 728 people showed up for the Democratic primary on the first day of early voting. Yesterday it was 9,243.

In Dallas, the first-day turnout jumped from 913 in 2004 to 8,615 yesterday. That would seem good news for Obama. Other urban counties such as Travis (Austin) and Bexar (San Antonio) showed six-fold increases. In El Paso, it tripled.

Turnout was up too in the Rio Grande Valley, an expected Clinton stronghold, but the increase wasn’t as dramatic. In Hidalgo County, the number of voters rose from 3,858 (2004) to 5,793 (2008).

David Plouffe, the Obama campaign manager, told Texas reporters this afternoon on a conference call that the campaign has emphasized ushering supporters to the polls early and was very encouraged by the early voting numbers so far. Early voting ends Feb. 29.

It's not so much Obama's strategy but the fact that he is a much more appealing candidate that has doomed Clinton.
ricky
BFD - amendments and a couple of resolutions.

Nothing substantive.

Our foreign policy toward Cuba is almost a bigger joke than our policy toward Iraq. We are pissed and holding a grudge cause we couldn't knock off The Beard. We have relations with Vietnam and 50k of our kids died over there.
Anogram
Loosining Cuban American travel between cuba and america but not a normalizing american and cuba relations...... better than the McCain stance

I saw chelsea clinton
artechba
We normalized relations with communist regime of Vietnam. 50,000 kids died for nothing. Communist China is our biggest trade partner and helped Vietnam and Korea in two wars against us costing us thousands of lives.

But we are going against Cuba after 50 years. It's retarded.

No. Nice and clean so far... lot's of "we agree on...".
Reed Rothchild
Hilary did get a good line there, "ending Bush's war on science."
Anogram
not to bad ..... only 1 question, what is the difference between you and the other.... did you hear that ?
artechba
So Clinton wants to help Mexico create jobs in their own country?

he should, that is a dynamic ticket that plays to both their strengths
Reverend Tyler
I dont see what she adds to the ticket at all actually except an anchor that will draw him down. It will galvanize the right, and make dynastic politics still an issue. Bill Richardson, Jim Webb, or my favorite Russ Feingold would be a lot better. Maybe Tim Kaine or Janet Napolitano as well
Anogram
Well.... nice stuff, no real jabs at eachother
Luther
This is way too nice for my liking.

Hillary's only chance of a come back was to successfully attack Obama. Instead she is trying to win a likability contest. That's not going to happen. If this continues she will continue to lose.
rogergrape
so far this debate could not be any more vanilla

if it stays like this, they might as well have both stayed at the hotel
artechba
Jim Webb should be his Vice President.

And Luther, I agree

yup - excellent point - i have a relative that teach english as a second language and she says the legals in her class hate nobody more than the illegals - the shit you have to go through legally is crazy - you have to come here live, go back to your country and live, then apply to come back - it is not an incentive to get any legal other than ones with money and drives illegal immigration through the roof - totally broken

the only "specifics" she has a "grasp" of are the details of her 20-year-old scheme to run for president.

why is vtw not commenting on this?!

- THe $4000.00 government payment for college will only INCREASE costs....and has plenty of other questions...

- You can't fund all these socialist programs by removing the Bush tax cuts...and closing 'loopholes' (very unspecific loopholes)

- Working families who paid taxes ALL received tax cuts under Bush...and will ALL get a tax HIKE under Obama...

THis is nothing more than typical socialist tripe....
