So Obama immediately denounces (AND REJECTS!) Minister Farakhan's support, yet John McCain is honored to get the support of Pastor John Hagee. Hagee is a rapture nut who is eagerly anticipating Armageddon, has called the Catholic Church the Anti-Christ, the Great Whore an Apostate Church and a false cult system. He also said the Jews have brought all the persecution on themselves for not worshipping God correctly.

Will Tim Russert ask McCain about this at the next debate (probably for the general) using his actual quotes like he did to Obama on Farakhan?

The Catholic League (no pinkos, they are FAR right wing) has already come out to rip McCain for embracing bigotry...

Quote: McCAIN EMBRACES BIGOT

February 28, 2008

Yesterday, Senator John McCain said he was “very honored by Pastor John Hagee’s endorsement.” The Republican presidential hopeful also called Hagee “the staunchest leader of our Christian evangelical movement,” citing the minister’s pro-Israel stance.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue addressed this today:

“There are plenty of staunch evangelical leaders who are pro-Israel, but are not anti-Catholic. John Hagee is not one of them. Indeed, for the past few decades, he has waged an unrelenting war against the Catholic Church. For example, he likes calling it ‘The Great Whore,’ an ‘apostate church,’ the ‘anti-Christ,’ and a ‘false cult system.’ To hear the bigot in his own words, click here. Note: he isn’t talking about the Buddhists.

“In Hagee’s latest book, Jerusalem Countdown, he calls Hitler a Catholic who murdered Jews while the Catholic Church did nothing. ‘The sell-out of Catholicism to Hitler began not with the people but with the Vatican itself,’ he writes.

“For the record, Hitler persecuted the Catholic Church and was automatically excommunicated in 1931—two years before he assumed power—when he acted as best man at Joseph Goebbel’s Protestant wedding. Hitler even bragged about his separation from the Church. As for doing nothing about the Holocaust, Sir Martin Gilbert reminds us that Goebbels denounced Pope Pius XII for his 1942 Christmas message criticizing the Nazis (the New York Times lauded the pope for doing so in an editorial for two years in a row). Much to Hagee’s chagrin, Gilbert also says that Pius XII saved three quarters of the Jews in Rome, and that more Jews were saved proportionately in Catholic countries than Protestant countries. Indeed, Israeli diplomat Pinchas Lapide credited the Catholic Church with saving 860,000 Jews. No religion can match that.

“Senator Obama has repudiated the endorsement of Louis Farrakhan, another bigot. McCain should follow suit and retract his embrace of Hagee.”

So Vacate, you are a Catholic aren't you? What do you think about this?

This guy also wants to "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" in accordance with "Biblical Prophecy."

Jesus! Who won't McCain sell his soul to? If he was ACTUALLY in bed with all these people instead of figuratively, he’d have a social disease.

American Politics. There is no substitute for what we do to each other anywhere else in the world.

When a man of convictions is forced to change his denomination and pander to these bigots for votes.

I'm not that outraged actually. McCain clearly has no idea what the fuck is going on anymore so I don't fault him. He will take it all back in a day or two. He accepted the NY Times endorsement when, months earlier, he learned they were sitting on that lobbyist story. He said that if Americans don't buy into the war he'll lose the election and then immediately took it back. Then he said he'd never met the cuckoo right-wing radio host that pushed the "Barack HUSSEIN Obama" angle at one of his rallies and then admitted he had met him and his campaign had hand-picked him for the gig. Does this poor bastard not have anyone to look out for him?
ZumayaFastball
what? a batshit right winger endorses a republican?!? lincoln would be oh so proud!!

That's it? You were "very honored" to get his support, and then just a throw off (I disagree with him on the Catholic Church) halfway response? Waht about the jews? Do you agree they deserve all their persecution? Do you feel that bombing Iran is necessary to fulfill biblical prophecy? What about him endorsing you was honorable?

fucking LAME response. They better go after him more about this. Obama IMMEDIATELY condemned Farakhan yet it was still asked about at the debate and caused controversy. This is fucked up.

This article covers the figure in the theology of the black nationalist organization Nation of Islam. The name, also spelled Yaqub or Yakob, also applies to the mainstream (traditional) Islamic view of the Biblical Jacob. See Yaqub and Jacob for information on the latter.

According to the Nation of Islam (NOI), Yakub (also spelled Yacub or Yakob), was an evil scientist responsible for creating the white race — a race of devils, in their view. Yakub created white people by a process of grafting the "black germ" to a "white germ" from the original black population of the world. It took 600 years for Yakub and his successors to fully whiten his creations. This was achieved under a despotic regime on the island of Patmos.[1] The reasons for Yakub's actions are unclear. According to NOI doctrine, his progeny were destined to rule for 6,000 years before the original black peoples of the world regained dominance, a process that began in 1914.[citation needed]
The doctrine of Yakub was first proclaimed by Wallace Fard Muhammad and was later developed by his successor Elijah Muhammad.
The name Yakub is a variant of the Semitic name referred to in European language versions of the Bible as Jacob or in modern Jewish communities as Ya’akov. Fard Muhammad appears to have adapted the Biblical Jacob's role as the father of the tribes of Israel to reposition him as the originator of white people as a whole (including Jews).
In recent times, the doctrine of Yakub has been rationalized within the NOI as an allegory for the evolution of whites from the original black-skinned human populations of Africa, and as a parable warning of the dangers of eugenics. Yakub's 600-year experiment is seen as colorful storytelling, little different from the Bible's account of God creating Eve from Adam's rib, or the creation of heaven and earth in six days. In his autobiography (written with Alex Haley), El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz (Malcolm X) notes that, in his travels in the Middle East, many Muslims reacted with shock upon their discovery of the doctrine of Yakub.
The African American author and playwright Amiri Baraka wrote a play titled A Black Mass based on the story of Yakub

Why did you post that? It is completely irrelevant. Unlike McCain, Obama did not go out and solicit Farakhan's endorsement, and immediately denounced and rejected him. McCain sought out the endorsement, went to a rally with him, then said he was very honored to get his support. Then the next day (today) re-iterated he was proud of getting his support.

You see no difference?

This story is building momentum, unlike the nytimes ethics piece...

could be a swift boat type reaction. Even the born agains are sick of this shit... really.

I would suspect that John McCain didn't know about this guy's politics or his anti-Semetic teachings.

I've been on vacation so I'm a bit behind on the whole background of this story, but I do know that McCain didn't become aware of this guy's story and then continue to embrace him, unlike Obama who entered into a land deal with a man he knew was under federal endictment.

Please show somewhere where John McCain said he was unaware of what Hagee has said before he accepted his support. Show me where he has rejected or renounced any of what Hagee said besides a general "I dont agree with everything he says"

The only thing I've heard Hagee say about the Catholic Church was regarding Pope Pius XII's refusal to denounce Hitler and taking part in the Concordat. The Concordat part is overblown, a lot of governments and organizations made pacts with Hitler proir to and after the Concordat, Pius just wanted to strengthen the Catholic Church in Germany. North Germany was mainly protestant and there were laws restricting donations from catholics to missionaries.

The other parts are valid. The Catholic Church has since acknowledged and apologized to the Jewish people for these very acts that Hagee calls them out on.

Beyond that he says the Catholic Church is to blame for the dark ages by sanctioning and supporting the crusades - probably true. I was born and raised catholic and the church was very corupt at times, especially back then.

I don't think any of these things are against Catholics per say, they are against the Church leadership of years past. He actually praised then current Pope John Paul II for his actions regarding the church's anti-semitic past in the same book.

I could be missing something but I don't think so. I think his statements are just misunderstood. A lot of people get fired up when someone says something against an organization and think they are speaking against every member of the organization. It is akin to a European saying something against George Bush and having liberal Americans get pissed. Not every Catholic agreed with Hitler, in fact most didn't. If Hagee is denouncing the Catholic ties to Hitler why would a catholic be upset unless they agreed with Hitler themselves? You can't revise history so just accept it.

I don't care if someone likes or dislikes the Catholic Church, or makes negative comments against the church.... Unless you are a true Catholic, why does it bother you, really??

It would be different if he were calling for the destruction of Vatican city, or calling for the death (s) of Catholic officials, ect... Has he done that?

It's just the typical evangelical/born-again M.O. I'm not the least bit surprised that McCain wouldn't disassociate himself with such a hawkish Zionist. While Pope John Paul II did officially apologize for the Church's past positions with regard to the Jews, this position was facilitated more out of outside pressure and the need for an appearance of a kinder, gentler Catholicism in the face of falling membership than from actual sincerity on the part of the old, conservative cardinals that comprise the Vatican. If you were to ask them all in confidence their feeling on Jews, to a man, I believe those cardinals would tell you that the Jews are all going to hell. There is no love loss between Catholics and Zionists.

I thought he called the head of the EU the anti-christ.

What I am saying is that he has his feelings against the Catholic Church as an organization, not against Catholics per say. In my opinion, any American can disagree with a company, government, organization or concept and call out the leadership of that entity for the things they disagree with. We are talking about an American who disagrees with the actions of a former head of an Italian organization that supported the former head of the German government. I fail to see the big deal.

So im sure you guys have no problems with anything Farakhan has said over the years?
