First of all, as Seth Everett said on Ferrall tonight, it's good to hear some honesty for a change. I'll take 9 Papelbon comments over 1 Arod comment.

Secondly, it is silly for these new guys to be complaining about the system their own union put into place.

Thirdly, and this has to do with Joba, he didn't get squat in his renewal. Big deal? Not really. It seems to be the Yanks way of doing business... sit the new guys down, sign em for the minimum and let them know they're obviously gonna get taken care of when their time comes up for arbitration.

Yankees renew Joba at $390,000

Yankees sensation Joba Chamberlain and Marlins superstar shortstop Hanley Ramirez were among several players whose contracts were unilaterally renewed by their teams Wednesday.

Chamberlain, whose careful handling by the Yankees during his sensational rookie season was dubbed the "Joba Rules," was renewed at the major league minimum salary of $390,000. A renewal occurs when the sides can't agree on a salary and the player doesn't have enough service time to qualify for arbitration.

The Yankees, with a $200 million payroll, used their right to keep Chamberlain's pay low. In a split contract, which is typical for non-arbitration players, Chamberlain will be paid at the rate of $69,000 during any time he spends in the minors, according to filings obtained by SI.com.

Ramirez was renewed by the Marlins at $439,000 after an MVP-caliber season. Several other Marlins were also renewed: Dan Uggla for $417,000, Jeremy Hermida for $395,000, Matt Lindstrom for $395,000, Renyel Pinto for $392,500 and Anibal Sanchez for $390,000.

Prince Fielder spoke out when the Brewers recently renewed his contract at $670,000.

Red Sox star closer Jonathan Papelbon has expressed disappointment about the way his negotiations' are going. Papelbon made $435,000 last year. "I'm at the mercy of the club right now to a certain extent,'' Papelbon said.

Um... can Joba go a full season before getting a raise?

Hanley deserves it now, but the Marlins aren't going to give him shit, and Feilder is full of shit... he wants them to sign him up until he is a free agent... fuck that, if they sign him long term they should get at least 2 of his free agent years in there.

hanley deserves it as much or more than pap

I understand the union argument, but you gotta look at it from the players view. Pap has contributed greatly in the Sox success and he is trying to get paid because you never know when that shoulder is gonna go.
