Let the blood bath begin...Looks like Democratic Racism has seeped to the surface....

Clinton backer Geraldine Ferraro sparks new Obama race storm
(Jeff Christensen/Reuters)

Geraldine Ferraro, the Democrats' 1984 vice-presidential nominee and an ardent supporter of Hillary Clinton, has ignited the latest campaign firestorm by saying Barack Obama has been successful only because he is a black man.

"If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position," Ms Ferraro told the dailybreeze.com political website. She added: "And if he was a woman (of any colour) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."

The Obama campaign called the remarks "outrageous and offensive." They emerged on the day of the Mississippi primary, where Mr Obama is heavily favoured because the majority of the state's Democratic voters are African American.

Susan Rice, Mr Obama's foreign policy adviser, said: "I think if Senator Clinton is serious about putting an end to statements that have racial implications...then she ought to repudiate this comment."

Howard Wolfson, a Clinton spokesman, said of Ms Ferraro: "We disagree with her." Ms Ferraro was chosen by Walter Mondale as his running mate in 1984, the only women to represent a major US political party on a presidential ticket. They lost in a landslide to Ronald Reagan and George Bush Senior.

The latest controversy involving Mr Obama's race came the day after John McCain, the Republican nominee, was forced once again to denounce remarks by a supporter that focused on the Illinois senator's middle name of "Hussein".

Steve King, a Republican Iowa congressman, said on Friday that terrorists will be "dancing in the streets" if Mr Obama is elected president.

Mr King added, in comments to a radio station: "When you think about the optics of a Barack Obama potentially getting elected president of the United States – I mean, what does this look like to the rest of the world? What does it look like to the world of Islam?

"I will tell you that of he is elected president, then the radical Islamists, the al-Qaeda, the radical Islamists and their supporters, will be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on September 11 because they will declare victory in this war on terror."

Jill Hazelbaker, a spokeswoman for Mr McCain, said: "The senator rejects the type of politics that degrades our civics, and this campaign will be about the future of our country." She said that Mr McCain "could not be clearer on how he views these types of comments, and obviously that view extends to Congressman King's statements."

Mr McCain has twice in recent weeks been forced to disavow remarks by supporters who implied Mr Obama is a Muslim. The Illinois senator's Kenyan father was Muslim, but not religious. He left the family when his son was two. Mr Obama is a Christian and has never been Muslim.

Meanwhile, Mr Obama for the first time directly accused the Clinton campaign of leaking last month a photograph of him wearing traditional Somali dress – including a turban – that he donned during a 2006 visit to the country.

He had previously downplayed the controversy and in a debate said he took Mrs Clinton at her word that as far as she knew the photographs were not leaked by her campaign.

He told a rally in Mississippi: "When your campaign starts leaking photographs of me when I'm travelling overseas to make people afraid, that's not real change."

The day after Mr Obama accused Mrs Clinton of trying to "hoodwink" voters with suggestions that he could be her running mate, he also went after her on her claims to have greater foreign policy experience.

His campaign released a memo saying: “There is no support for or substance in the claim that Senator Clinton has passed 'the Commander-in-Chief test'…Barack Obama does not use false charges and exaggerated claims to play politics with national security.”

SHE IS 100% CORRECT
arties pancreas
If Obama were a white junior Senator with only three years of experience in the U.S. Senate and with only prior experience as a State Legislator, his Presidential candidacy would be considered a joke. Would it not?

However, if anybody, such as Ferraro, dares to point out the obvious, the Race Card is thrown at them to shut them up.
arties pancreas
This is a better quote:

"Any time anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says let's address reality and the problems we're facing in this world, you're accused of being racist, so you have to shut up," Ferraro said. "Racism works in two different directions. I really think they're attacking me because I'm white. How's that ?"
grege345
A record number of African Americans are turnig out for the first time in history and 89% are voting for Obama. So what else could it be
ArivacaCharlie
Ferarro....you mean the old bitch who got slaughtered along with Walter Mondale by Reagan?
Who gives a fuck what that irrelevant cunt says?

I guess that is just the standards of the two campaigns. Obama has high standards and Clinton has none.

Funny. You and 1-09-2006 and moonbatbobknob and your other alter egos always resort to that when you have nothing to say.
And you always have nothing to say.
Your mom is so ashamed of you that she wanted to kill herself until I let her blow me to cheer her up.

She didn't say anything that isn't true.

My State Representative, who is also superdelegate, said in an interview, that as an African American woman, she is voting for Obama because she has to "support this young black man" and it's "what her late father would have wanted"..

A newspaper columnnist in my local paper wrote that she and all her friends are voting for Obama because he married a dark skinned woman, a woman that they can relate to because she looks like them.

An African American minister in my city , another superdelegate, announced that he was switching from Hillary to Obama because "that's what his people want".

Sherri Sheppard, of The View, came right out and said on national TV that she and her relatives are voting for Obama because he is black.

So a white person says what black people are saying and suddenly everyone is outraged and offended that the the race card is being played, exposed and pointed out.
Reverend Tyler
Im sure there are some people voting for Obama because he is black just like Im sure there are a lot of women voting for Hillary simply because she is female. A huge difference is that Obama has been blowing her out in lost of states that have hardly any black population whatsoever. Oh, I guess the black vote really turned the tide in Iowa, Idaho, Wyoming, North Dakota, Alaska, Hawaii, Vermont, Kansas and Nebraska

Yeah, Im really sure being a black man with a foreign-sounding name is such a great "advantage" that he should consider himself "lucky" for
jigzaw
While it was dumb of her to say and it doesn't help Clinton, you have to admit there's some truth to it, and that doesn't diminish any of Obama's accomplishments.

If he were saying the same thing, but was a young handsome white guy, Hillary would already be the nominee. It's the whole package, especially overcoming racial boundaries, growing up overseas, and the chance to show the world we can elect a dark-skinned person that is his trump card as a nominee. Just as Clinton's is that she's a woman.

The Democratic party is the party of identity politics and affirmative action, so let's not cry when it's pointed out.
Reverend Tyler
bullshit...If he was saying the exact same things but was a young good looing white guy he would already be the nominee

I agree. I remember reading her super delegate op-ed piece in the NYT and thought it was ridiculous. Like that article Hillary and Bill have been making some ridiculous mistakes. Why does Bill have to bring up the fact that Jesse Jackson had won a primary. You couldn't compare Jackson or Obama. The results differed so much. Now she brings up the black issue again. How can she do this when Obama has been winning in the states that you have listed.

Their arguments show that they are reaching for anything because they are behind.

Nope. Not in a time of war. His record just isn't long enough. People are caught up in the magic, as Howard says. The novelty of his unique appearance and charm are his selling points, and he's "so well spoken".

Nothing he's done is so memorable. No one would even remember the guy if not for his unusual name and racial groundbreaking.

I remembered him for his speech he gave b4 John Kerry took the stage. I was impressed. Then I find out other things like he opposed the war in Iraq when I saw him on the Charlie Rose show. It's not just some magical carpet ride.

Howard isn't always on top of things when it comes to politics. He was hoping for Rudy remember?

funny he seems to be winning ALL White Areas, ALL White States as much as states with huge black populations.

Ferraro slams Obama campaign: "They're attacking me because I'm white."

If Obama is defeated it's because of racism.
If he loses the general election, it's because of racism.
If he's elected and does a bad job, it's because of racism.
If people disagree with him or point out how he's wrong, it's racist.

The threat of being called a racist is such a serious thing in this country, it stifles free speech.
And it also prevents the topic from ever being honestly discussed.

Dispicable, really. No, its not about being PC... but race for many plays very little into their excitement about Obama. So what if he's getting the black vote? Most are democratic, most want to see a change from the Bush/Clinton name...
its probably the oligarchy that is persuading them more than anything.

Its so ironic, she wouldn't have been part of that coveted ticket ( ) if she were a man.

Kind of like Spitzer and his obsession with prostitutes.

Discounting Sherri Sheppard, it's actually 3 prominent blacks , one an influential newpaper columnist and the other two, leaders in their community that represent a very large portion of the city. Nothing random about them and their influence.

So if you could assign a ratio to their decision what would it be?
90% race? 10% race?

Or is it because our educational system is still pretty much segregated ( hello West Philly! )
they don't have the ability to understand policy, right?

I'm sorry, but I don't understand your first point.
As for the other, the answer is not so simple. For some, I'd say, no, absolutely not, for others, I'd say, yes, that's probably true. And, no, I'm not assigning ratios.
What it comes down to, though, is that it really is about black people voting for a black man.
As the columnist put it, through personal emails we had about her column in question, black people never had a choice before. All they could ever vote for was a white person. They now have a choice and they are voting black. She asked me if I could understand that. It wasn't the lofty or complicated answer I was hoping for, but, it was the truth. Finally.

Update

Okay, I'm convinced. Geraldine Ferraro will say ridiculous things. April 15, 1988, Washington Post:

And former representative Geraldine A. Ferraro (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that because of his "radical" views, "if Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn't be in the race."

Asked about this at a campaign stop in Buffalo, Jackson at first seemed ready to pounce fiercely on his critics. But then he stopped, took a breath, and said quietly, "Millions of Americans have a point of view different from" Ferraro's.

Discussing the same point in Washington, Jackson said, "We campaigned across the South . . . without a single catcall or boo. It was not until we got North to New York that we began to hear this from Koch, President Reagan and then Mrs. Ferraro . . . . Some people are making hysteria while I'm making history."

Just read this and I must say she is a pretty consistant woman. This is the type of thinking that I was talking about in my post above somewhere.

Bill Clinton tried to use this logic against Obama. Very poor analogy!
modeams
My apologies, I probably wasn't clear. So is the idea of a black candidate overwhelming any other issue that may concern African Americans ? If you had to give a percentage (not ratio :D )

Is it 90% "cause he's the same race as me" and 10% "for his insigtful suggestions at reforming No Child Left Behind." :dontknow:

Even in '88 Jackson got something like 11 contests, but he wasn't drawing the numbers Obama is getting from his "own" race.

Rep. King merely said that Obama's cut and run (or so he tells the voters) strategy will have Al Qaeda "dancing in the streets".....hence the sound byte that Obama winning the election will have Al Qaeda dancing in the streets.

Of course every Liberal hears a racist tinge to any sort of criticism.

The Democrats are the ones who constantly break down the electorate along racial lines, not the Republicans.
