I want to take a step back and address the charity issue from an HR standpoint.
You have two employees who work for a multinational corporation.
One of them is primarily an on-air personality. The other is a background staffer.
They've had previous altercations.
Finally, during an on-the-air fight, the personality calls the other staffer a faggot and tells him, "I hope you die of AIDS."
Now, let's add the fact that this personality has also thrown objects at other staff people. He's also said he hopes other people die of AIDS.
How would HR handle this the first time (when the personality wished AIDS on someone)? A suspension and sensitivity training.
The second time (throwing something at someone)? A longer suspension.
The third time (wishing AIDS again)? He'd be fired.
Yes, the "personality" is Artie Lange. And if Sirius HR had some balls, they would have stepped in quite a while ago and put this situation to bed, started a paper trail, and gotten it under control.
Hasn't Sal had problems with HR? Artie is not above the same rules.
Take Howard Stern out of the equation. You have a homophobic employee with anger issues. You either send him for training or you suspend him, until he gets the message.
Nobody has to live or work in that kind of hostile, eggshell environment. |
