Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has identified the possible Champions League semi-final between the Catalan club and Manchester United as his dream game to return in.
The 20-year-old has not played since the beginning of March when he suffered a thigh muscle tear in his left leg during a Champions League game against Celtic.
Dream date: Messi says he would like to make his return against Manchester United
For the past two weeks he has been doing light training under the watchful eyes of Argentinian Football Association kinesiologist Luis Garcia and physio Marcelo D'Andrea in Buenos Aires.
He returned to Barcelona on Thursday night, and on Friday told the Spanish press of his intentions to be ready should his team advance to a possible tie with the English champions.
"It would be great if I could be in the semi-finals of the Champions League," he told El Mundo Deportivo.
"If we played Manchester United it would be amazing because we would be playing one of the best teams in the world. But I aim to be back before that."
Barcelona currently hold a 1-0 lead from the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final with Schalke, with the second leg at the Nou Camp due to be played on April 9.
And Messi declared himself available to finish the job against the Germans.
He said: "If it was up to me I'd play this weekend because I feel fine, and even if was just a few minutes I'd like to play in the second leg against Schalke." |

The Football Association is to investigate a report that a player accepted a £50,000 bribe to fix a match. According to The Independent, a player with a serious gambling problem agreed the deal with a bookmaker to write off his betting debts.
The report claimed the match was played in the last two years "in Britain" but did not name the player nor state which league or home nation was involved. An FA spokesman said: "We will be making inquiries into this report."
Article continues
FA investigators' first step will be to establish whether the match concerned took place in England, otherwise it would be beyond their jurisdiction. According to the report, the bookmaker agreed to write off the debt if the player got himself sent off and persuaded three team-mates to get booked in a specific match.
It added that the player did as requested and that his team lost the game, which was said to have been played in the past two years. Knowing how many cards a team would be shown in a game would be useful in spread-betting. The player was reported to be "ashamed and full of remorse" and to have sought professional help for a gambling problem.
The case was disclosed in a seminar on gambling at the Sporting Chance clinic in Hampshire this week.
The clinic's chief executive Peter Kay said he was aware of the case. Kay said: "Neither I nor Sporting Chance is responsible for what a client or ex-client might say, but if you're asking whether I'm aware of this case, the answer is yes." |

MANCHESTER, England, April 4 (Reuters) - Manchester United are close to securing a new long-term contract for defender Rio Ferdinand at Old Trafford, manager Alex Ferguson said on Friday.
Ferdinand, 29, has two years left to run on his contract with the Premier League champions but has opened talks on a new deal.
"We have been negotiating for a few weeks now and I don't think we are far away, although you know what negotiations are like nowadays. They are never easy," Ferguson told reporters.
Ferdinand, who captained England in their international friendly against France last week, recently said he would like to finish his career at United, the club he joined from Leeds United in 2002 for a then British record fee of 30 million pounds ($60 million).
His outstanding form this season has helped United chase a domestic and European double, keeping clean sheets in their last five league games and their 2-0 Champions League quarter-final first-leg victory at AS Roma on Tuesday night.
"I have always said if you defend well you can win things. If we keep defending right like that we have the forwards to cap on our defensive strength," said Ferguson.
Ferdinand's partnership with Nemanja Vidic has been the bedrock of United's success but Vidic will now be missing for up to three weeks with the knee injury he sustained in Rome.
"It's still a loss but I think we can cope," added Ferguson, who was relieved not to lose the Serbia international for the rest of the season.
"We have got Silvestre back, Neville back, Piquet, John O'Shea and Wes Brown so we are very well covered in that position."
Gary Neville returns to United's squad for the first time in over a year for Sunday's trip to mid-table Middlesbrough after finally regaining full fitness following an ankle injury.
League leaders United, who hold a five-point advantage over Chelsea going into the weekend games, will be looking to maintain their lead by securing a seventh successive win.
"We are approaching the finishing line," said Ferguson. "There is not long to go now but sometimes it's a lifetime away because at this time of year the nerves can play a part, form plays a part and you can get a shock result. We have to make sure our form stays consistent."
Portugal Winger Nani, is still out with a thigh injury but could return for Wednesday's second leg against Roma. (Editing by Clare Lovell) |

Swedes find Viking-era Arab coins
Swedish archaeologists have discovered a rare hoard of Viking-age silver Arab coins near Stockholm's Arlanda airport.
About 470 coins were found on 1 April at an early Iron Age burial site. They date from the 7th to 9th Century, when Viking traders travelled widely.
There has been no similar find in that part of Sweden since the 1880s.
Most of the coins were minted in Baghdad and Damascus, but some came from Persia and North Africa, said archaeologist Karin Beckman-Thoor.
The team from the Swedish National Heritage Board had just started removing a stone cairn at the site "when we suddenly found one coin and couldn't understand why it was there", she told the BBC News website.
"We continued digging and found more coins and realised it was a Viking-age hoard." The coins were left there in about AD850, she said.
Such Viking hoards usually come from Gotland - a large Swedish island in the Baltic Sea, she explained.
"No Viking was buried at this site - the grave is older. Maybe the Vikings thought the hoard would be protected by ancestors," Ms Beckman-Thoor added. Vikings had settled in a village nearby.
The Vikings travelled widely in their longships in the Baltic region and Russia from the late 8th to the 11th Century. They are known to have travelled as far as North Africa and Constantinople (now Istanbul). |
