I hope HBO does a good job with this miniseries as they did with Band of Brothers. I, for one, am really looking forward to it (coming in July). That is, as long as there is no overly-political slant/agenda or they make it too artsy (a la Jarhead). None of this was needed in the book, which was excellent by the way. Another good one is David Zucchino's Thunder Run.
I have to say I'm a little disappointed so far with "John Adams." It's not bad, but not great either. |

| I gave up on HBO after they left Deadwood in mid stream. They fucked over Carnival and John from Cincinnati as well...not sure why this is posted here though...oh well.. |

From what I've read, the title may seem provacative but it (hopefully) won't be anti-military. |

"John Adams" is good. Anything to educate is good. |

They didn't actually leave Deadwood in, as you say, mid stream. Due to it's popularity, it actually went on a season further than originally planned. It wasn't HBO's decision to stop with Deadwood, but Milch's, as he wanted to go full boar ahead with John From Cincinatti. Turned out to not be such a great decision, wouldn't you say? John was an ok show with a neat premise and good dialogue. They just couldn't get past the dreadful acting of a bunch of surfer-first wanna-be-Thespians, not even with being surrounded by some of Milch's Deadwood veterans... and Al Bundy.
I totally agree with you on Carnivale, though. HBO's decision, which they never did explain. But Deadwood was all on Milch. Milch's Next Project
As for this new Miniseries... I can take it or leave it. I'm not big on war movies, preferring, instead, that grain of implausibility in my entertainment. Although I am thoroughly enjoying John Adams. Absolutely superb. Their depiction of the French is spot on. |
