Many of you regulars have heard me bitch about the illegals taking jobs away from Americans.

I think I finally found a job that I would not do, it is landscaping. My yard was burnt out from the drought last year so I needed to put new sod down. I went to the sod store and purchased
7 pallets of sod 3850sqft. As it was being delivered some mexican landscapers came and asked me if I wanted them to put the sod down. I told them no thanks, I will do it my self.
The one that spoke english offered to do it again for $35 per pallet gave me his card and left.

It took me 4 hours to put down 1-1/2 pallets by hand by myself. I am dying from this.
I asked my son if any of his friends would like to make some cash, they all said hell no.

My son will help me this weekend but it is still going to be hard as hell. Hopefully by him working his ass off he will realize that all the harping my wife and I do he will finally realize
that what we say about getting a college education and a good job is true. I really hope this will
be a great life lesson for him.

BIG PROPS TO THE LANDSCAPERS IN THIS WORLD. ILLEGAL OR NOT, YOURS IS A JOB THIS AMERICAN WILL NOT DO.

I still can't believe that teenagers turned down this work. I thought that $200 was a good offer
for a couple of teenagers. I guess I was wrong.

The younger generation has been coddled for too long. They need a dose of humility, and realize that while they may become "superstars" someday, there's nothing wrong with getting your hands dirty once in a while.

Laying sod is ball busting work. I did landscaping work when I was a kid and it was the worst. $35 a pallet is CHEAP !!!

I know it is. I am really kicking myself in the ass for not letting them do it.

Better look for that card they gave you......unless you and your son are used to doing that kind of work....your gonna have a problem getting that done...you'll be spent by lunchtime Saturday, and PRAY the sod deosn't get too wet!

I'm just curious......why didn't you just rent a tiller to loosen the top inch of soil and re-seed and roll ?

I have no problem hiring or using anyone . Just a s long as they pass the E-Verify, I'll put them on....I have had a lot of Mexican employees here in the southwest, and most were very hard workers. The only problem I've ran into is reading and writing. Manual labor is definitly not an issue.

It was a good offer, most of the teens today are allergenic to hard work , they want 20 an hour to do nothing and come and go as they please, I'm 42 years old grew up on a farm still do physical labor by choice and can out work 3/4 of the 20 year olds out there...fucking sad

We have sever water restriction here. The grass that I had was fescue which doesn't handle drought conditions. I tilled the soil and put Bermuda 419 down. It grows fast, spreads fast and requires little watering.
