so a couple years back i was under the impression that i was hot shit, and needed the sirius s-50 (best model at the time i bought it). i think its called the s-50, its the gaudy black one that also serves as a half-assed mp3 player. anyway, over the past few months its been acting screwy. sometimes it doesnt turn on, it'll just start to power up, completely turnoff, and repeat. when that happens i swithc to the ipod, and usually itll start working next time im in the car. then jus today it started skippng i guess, or muting in and out pretty consistantly.
has anyoneh ad the problem? is it just a shitty unit, or is it maybe something im doing? does extreme heat/clold fuck with it? because thats the only way in which i may be abusing it that i can think of.
also, is sirius cool about replacing recievers, or am i basically fucked?

no, i didnt get any email about an upgrade that im aware of, allthought i get alittle delete-happy when skimming through spam emails.
no, i dont have a lifetime subscription, i go year to year. i plan on calling and just cancelling my subscription if they dont offer me a replacement. unfrotunately i think they would just call my bluff because im one of the few people on here who still genuinely enjoys the show |

| Contact Sirius and ask them. I bought the boombox 3 years ago and I have never had a problem with it. And it works just as well in the car. :( |

Hey ResevoirDog, I've actually had similar problems, on top of that lately I've been having the problem with it not charging on the home dock.. now this week it can only charge to about 7% on the car dock or the home dock and then shuts off.. I'm wondering if this is a battery problem (I think it's a battery problem) or if it's the docks problem. I don't know. Does your fully charge, have you ever changed the battery? I saw one on TSS that advertised a longer battery life?

| Sirius actually has a complaint dpt specifically dedicated to the S50. I bought mine the day of Howard's last show on KROCK and it hasn't worked too bad. The Mp3 player on it doesn't work anymore. I have a couple friends that had they're unit take a total shit on them. |

| My boss got one of those and he got a mailer from Sirius that said urgent S-50 software update info...I didn't read it and he probably threw it out but if I were you I would go to the ask Sirius forum, that guy Taylor from TSS is always real helpful in these situations |

truthfully, im not sure about the batter charging because i have never taken it off the dock. it pretty much stays in my car. i just called and the guy told me that if i download the upgrade it should help to fix the skipping. unfortunately, as i just mentioned, i never use the mp3 player feature, and dont have the slightest clue where the usb cable is. and on top of that, he barely spoke english and didnt really give me a straight answer about it fixing the power up issue (which i assume it wont). oh, and wheresmurphy, i have a feeling that its a problem with the dock, and no the battery sine i never run it on the battery. i dont know, id rather no buy a new reciever since money is tight and itll be hard to justify spending more money on the stern show (which is all i listen to on sirius). :(

SOLUTION
It's the firmware that needs to be updated. Everytime Sirius upgrades the transmission protocols the S50, whcih does not self update like the Stilleto and its WiFi capablity, you have to upgrade the firmware from the internet. It is a simple process. You just need to install teh application and you need your S50 USB cable. I always reser channels as well when the thing starts to misbehave.

They will give you a special offer on a sportster or if you really bitch you might be able to talk down the price of a stilletto but you won't get a new S50. Those are discontinued. |

Do you have your wall charger? The cable unplugs from the black wall adapter, and viola! The end of it is a USB cable! |

| id first like to appologize for resurrecting this shit thread, but ive got a quick question. my S50 is out of commision, and unfortunately ive lost my usb cord to upgrade it. by some odd chance, is there anyone here who has upgraded from the S50 to a beter reciever and still has the usb cord lying around? i know its a long shot, but i figure its worht a try. i can paypal ya the cost of shipping and then some. thank you |

Two things:
1) I have a mobile phone with a windows OS. I got the software download which allows streaming over the phone & its 99% perferct (the info is on the main SFN page). Obviouly if I am driving in a rural area where I do not have a cell signal, I lose the radio. But this is a great option when I am not in my own car. I also use this when I am working out etc.
2) has anyone else noticed that once in a while the on-line show seems like it is on speed? A few times this week I swear it sounded like a 45 record. |
