05-01-08 Super Fan Roundtable Brainstorming thread.
In here I ask the Stern fans for help planning the weeks show. What are the hot topics?
This weeks guests are Human Numan, Double A, blue2noise, John Daniels819
MIDGET TAXI DRIVER
- will it ever happen or will it eb the next flying with balloons deal?
- is it more fun when celebs let on that they are Stern fans? Wackpack fans?
- What scenes need to make the 15 minute cut?
PLANTED PLUGS
- Are the almost daily "I love HTV" calls planted infomercials?
- Are the crew really into Iron Man or are they just another sponsor being spoon fed to us? (my take, Howard has been excited about the iron Man movie for a real long time. it's real and probably the reason they went after Sirius. On the flip side, Transformers was a sponsor and Howard sorta took a shit on it. it wasn't until later that he actually watched it and got into it.)

CALLING INTO THE SHOW: When calling into the show, there's no need to give shout outs to SFN or your friends on SFN. We don't have a ton of time so please don't waste any of it. We already have topics setup. Please be a good caller and respond to the topics. Thanks 1-888-STERN-101
GETTING ON THE SHOW: Each week I start a roundtable brainstorming thread where the fans help build our topics and a listening thread where people discuss the show while it's happening. if you'd like to do the show, get in there and participate. Once you've been around for awhile and see how the show works, ask to be on and pick a open date. The schedule can be found here. We have 4 people on each show and I try to make at least one of them a brand new person who's never been on. You can make your requests here in the Super Fan Roundtable forum or you can email them here.
GUESTS OF THE SHOW: The show airs from the Sirius studios in NYC Times Square. It's on the 36th floor of the McGraw Hill building on the corner of 49th & 6th in studio 21. (Google MAP) Guests should be there at 6PM so we can do mic checks. The show goes live at 7PM. You can not bring any friends. our studio is very small and there's really no place for them. I'll need your full name in advance and you need to bring your ID for security. If I don't put you on the list and you don't have your ID, you will not be able to get in.
This is an office and you are expected to be on your best behavior. It's not some free for all party. You shouldn't do anything that you would do when stopping by the bank. You cannot bring alcohol, take off your clothes, make noise, or bother people. I know you are a Stern fan but we're not out at the bar. You need to be cool. Don't stop them and ask for an autograph or photo. Everytime one of you misbehaves, I get a new rule to follow.
You CAN NOT walk around Sirius. You will be escorted from the upstairs lobby to the studio and back out. Do not take it upon yourself to just walk around & check things out. Nobody is allowed to stop by other shows. DO NOT stop by Ferrall's studio under any circumstances even if you think it's OK. I've been told by management that it's not. If you'd like to be a guest on Ferrall, they need to put you on their guest list.
You may take photos in the studio but please do not take pictures in the halls or lobby.
DO NOT sign the wall.
All plugs must be approved in advance. If you are going to be on the show and you have something to plug, you need to let me know the day before. ANYONE WHO PLUGS A WEBSITE OR BUSINESS WITHOUT PERMISSION WILL NOT BE INVITED BACK. |

It's a love hate relationship with his fans. He loves us because we brought him great fame and fortune. He also hates us because we do complain and and demand allot out of the show. I am not offended by this remark because I know he said it out of frustration. |

I enjoy celebrities who like Eric. Its funny. If I remember right that was one of the funniest parts of Niel Patrick Harris' interview. |

I agree. I think it needs to be addressed. Back in the day (Krock) Howard used to drag other DJ's over the coals for hyping stuff in a 'fake' or planned fashion.

How about this issue for the next show:
When a Radio Show and Web Board dominates/becomes a Fan's life. This can be tied into the Fuckhead issue above (what kind of a person spends time on a Fan site complaining about who they're a fan of). It also ties into the current and on-going Boots drama.
Are Howard Stern Fans so obssessed with the Show that they feel an unreal, non-existent connection to it?
Is it seen as a "Familly" rather then a Radio Show/WebBoard to the obssessed Fan?
And so on....
I think Howard (and his Fans) would find this subject very interesting to hear discussed.

How weird that you brought this up...earlier today I was thinking about how much my opinion of Howard and the show has changed since I started hanging out at SFN...I've always been a die hard fan from back in the 80's...but I never got involved in such heated and granular discussions about the show with people. I'd talk about Howard and what he had done on his show, but I never had insane discussions about Whack packers or heated debates about whether or not Gary should get braces.
Regardless, the more I learn the more I want to know...and I confess now that I'm paying to listen too and watch HTV, I almost feel entitled to know what is happening. I resent being lied to too or dicked around with fake calls...I get angry when the Artie meltdown isn't replayed. I get pissed when Robin won't talk about breaking up with her boyfriend and then announces it on another show...it infuriates me to hear Robin Givens talk about how Howard's kids didn't like Beth...etc.
It's a subject I'd enjoy hearing discussed. |

yes, in the beginning everyone wanted to. what they don't get is all those autographs are from celebrities & bands. everyone is done at request. one day they had a spot reserved fro a big county star. (I don't remember who) Siobhan walked up and filled the entire 10"x10" space with her autograph and a big drawing of a cat. moments latter the execs walked the county guy down to sign the wall and said, who the hell is Siobhan?!?!?! He had to sign in a little sliver down by the floor. Worse yet, he/she never appologized. Instead he/she was a real asshole about it thinking that they should be thankful that he/she was willing to sign the wall.
Zolar signed it too but he didn't casue an issue. i think all the wackpackers have tried signing it.
months later some SFRT people pretended to sign the wall & took each others photos. (THEY DID NOT SIGN! THEY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE THE CAP OFF OF THE SHARPIE) Anyway, when they posted the photos here, a Sirius exec saw the photos and I got my ass chewed out thinking they had really signed the wall. |

we have hit this a couple times. sorta beating a dead horse by now.
IMHO, I don't think they are fake. I think they call in with that kind of kiss ass stuff so they have a better chance to actually be picked up on. that or they really are obsessed fans who love the TV show. face it, it takes a certain kind of obsessed fan to sit on hold for hours each day in hopes that howard will pick up on ya. look at it this way, after being on hold for days, if & when howard finally picks up, are you gonna tell him you love him or give him shit? most people just want to please him and tell him they love the show. before you know it it's another HTV plug. |

You offer three HowardTV channels. They can be purchased a la carte or you can purchase the Triple Play. Here are the offerings:
1 channel loops the current daily shows in a continuous loop (most current shows would be looped in the evening hours).
1 channel loops the current special shows in a continuous loop (most current specials would be looped in the evening hours).
1 channel loops the classic daily shows and classic specials in a continuous loop.
Personally, I would pay for the Triple Play. As for pricing, I've suggested $8.95 for each and $21.95 for the Triple Play.
Problem solved. QED.

IMHO, it's unacceptable. They need to spread the HTV wealth. We have FIOS now which means we have on demand but there's no HTV. we have the technology, just not the service.
the best that I've been able to figure out is HTV On Demand is owned by InDemand which is in turn owned by Comcast & some other cable companies. don't see any reason why the cable companies would even make a propitiatory product available to the competition. I'd say we're fucked. probably will stay a cable only product and all the suggestions of a HTV channel on sat isn't gonna do shit. just my opinion |

The Gary topic is awesome! My friends and I are always talking about how he acts on the WuS. He totally lays into callers who may deserve it but he goes too far.
The best part to me was the day of Sal and the Wonderlic. A guy named Christopher called in and totally tore Gary a new asshole! After the guy got off the phone Gary said he was probably one of those know-it-alls sitting at home without a job. Christopher called back in to say he was the VP of a company called baap technologies!
If anything Gary got a little of his own that day, and it was great. |

It seems all of the ugliest this/best that segments are all very visual and not great radio. Is the SHOW more and more being used to hawk Howard TV? I know you brought up the fake callers to Howard today but it seems like his plugging of HTV is becoming more shareless. |

Mutt - FYI (you may already know this) - FIOS and Dish/DirecTV are two very different animals - with FTTH (fiber to the home) you can use the iN Demand technology. With Dish/DirecTV you cannot. That isn't going to change.
So... my FUCKING AWESOME solution should be considered by the suits. They are missing out on millions in revenue.
I'm a DirecTV customer and I want my FUCKING HowardTV. Godfuckingdammit.
