:jj: wow 3 days. It is kind of sad that when McCain makes gaffes everyone speculates on how he is going to back pedal his way out of it. Will he play his senile card? Will he simply just deny and hope american people don't notice?

In the last 28 years, the republican party has elected an actor with Alzheimer's, a guy who puked on the Japanese prime minister, and a guy who is said to have the early stages of dementia. Now they are trying to elect a guy who shows signs of being senile (or is just really good at acting).

McCain brought up an interesting point. New Orleans is sinking at a rapid pace. Does it make sense to rebuild it in certain areas. It sits on a bed of silt.
Here's a link to an article written in 2000, before Katrina, which indicates that much of the city is in peril.

i agree with mccain on this. but why didnt he speak up when it mattered? when they were allocating funds?
mccain the senator and mccain the president are like 2 different people. i have no idea who he is anymore, and i used to love him. |

McCain said he didn’t know what his plans would be. “That’s why we need to go back,” he said, “to have a conversation about what to do about it. Rebuild it? Tear it down? Ya know, whatever it is.”
McCain had been asked to clarify. “I don’t remember ever saying it,” he said Thursday afternoon on his way from Xavier University to the New Orleans airport. “I made it clear — and the governor [of Louisiana Bobby Jindal] has too, who was with me — that that’s a decision that individuals make. And our job is to create the environment that if they wish to come back to the Ninth Ward that they have the proper healthcare, the proper education and facilities, etcetera, etcetera. I said that many times.”

He was listing potential solutions in a question form - he was objecting to the assertion that he said that, as President, he would tear down the 9th ward. This is where all of this is being confused. |

He should have stuck by his statement. He should have asked the citizens of N.O. as well as every citizen in this Country that lives in areas where natural disasters are more likely to occur, "Are prepared to live with the risk because the rest of us are tired of bailing you ass out. We understand you get to enjoy the sun & water while you laugh at the rest of us who live in the middle of now where & endure harsh winters, but form now on you are on your own & must accept the risk of where you choose to live".
I ive in a State that has never ranked above 45th for Federal dollars received for disaster relief. The same States even when broken down by pecentage of population consistently rank at the top, so fuck them. If you live in desert don't be suprised when you don't have water. If you live by the Ocean in the South don't be suprised when the warm waters eat your house. Fuck you & don't expect my money. |

i also agree with his original statement. i think his compaign people told him not to remember because it seems mean and may lose votes. |
