Wife: Rodriguez fainted during first daughter's birth

NEW YORK -- Alex Rodriguez passed out during the birth of his first daughter.
"The one nurse had a cold cloth on his head. The other nurse had the blood pressure on his arm. And my mother was like rubbing his back. And he is passed out on a couch. And I am there, in the middle of labor," Cynthia Rodriguez, wife of the New York Yankees star, said on an episode of the YES Network's "YESterdays" that is scheduled to be broadcast Wednesday night.
"And really, I am not being paid much attention to besides the doctor and a couple of nurses," she said. "And he is there moaning. In between pushing, I am going, 'Honey, are you OK?' and 'Are you breathing? Are you OK?'"
Natasha Alexander Rodriguez was born on Nov. 18, 2004.
"As tough and big as he seems, he is real wimpy around doctors or any type of medical situation," Cynthia Rodriguez said, according to excerpts released Tuesday by YES. "I don't know why I thought the birth of our child would be different. In the middle of the night, I realized that I needed to go to the hospital. I wake him up. The first thing that comes out of his mouth: 'Can we call your mother?' ... A few hours later, I said, 'I think you can call my mom now.' Uh, and the color came back to his face when I told him he could call my mom."
A-Rod traveled from New York last week and arrived at a Miami-area hospital about 10 minutes after the birth of his second daughter, Ella Alexander Rodriguez, on April 21.
Alex and Cynthia met in 1996 at a gym in Miami.
"I scouted her out for a month," he said. "I wanted to see her routine, and I wanted to see what time she came in, see how consistent she was. And sure enough, she was like a machine. She would come in right after work and get on the treadmill and do her abs. And finally, I build enough courage after about 3½ weeks. And I said, 'I know you are going to go do some abs after. And do you mind if I join you?'"
Cynthia said she was unaware of his celebrity status at first.
"I know he played baseball, because everybody in the gym said, 'Do you know who that is? And he plays baseball' or whatever," she said. "I didn't grow up in a sports-oriented family. So, I wasn't aware that you could have an entire livelihood off of a sport. So when they would say, 'Oh, he plays baseball,' I always think, 'Oh, I wonder what else he does' -- like 'that's a nice hobby -- but what does he really do?'" |

Apparently, either that or I am the only one w/ human emotions. I'll joke about silly stuff but you guys are so incredibly obsessed it's sad and it's even sadder that a Met and Dolphin fan has to live through the Boston fans. When the Yanks had their latest dynasty I wasn't worried about the Sox for a second, I didn't make fun of Sox fans b/c my team was better, I didn't worry about the Sox all the time. You have a Championship team to root for and you are obsessed w/ the Yankees, it's even worse w/ the Pats b/c the Jets haven't come close to a title and the Pats have 3 this decade. As obsessed as you think Boston fans are of New York teams, the people/fans of NY teams are just as obsessed with Boston, especially since 2001 and the success of the Patriots, and the two World Championships of the Red Sox. It's embarrassing when NY fans do it and it does happen but not nearly as much as from the Boston fans. I was at a Pats game in 2000(before the bandwagon) and the Jets killed NE that day and the fans at the game didn't care about the game for a second, they just chanted all game long "NY sucks, Jets suck, Yankees suck,,," That would NEVER happen here in NY.
I admit I am envious of the success of the Pats and Sox, I want to beat them and I want to win Championships but I am not obsessed w/ everything Boston and I know if my teams were winning I wouldn't be doing what Boston fans are doing I would be enjoying my team's success the way I did 10 years ago. |

What are the Boston fans doing exactly? I think you're confusing "obsession" with "pointing and laughing". 10 years ago, the Sox weren't the leagues top spenders, and weren't expected to win anything. Every year the Yankees top a $200,000,000.00 payroll, grab all the top names via Free Agency, field an all-star team, and come up empty, it's embarrassing for them and their fans. Of course baseball fans all across the country, especially fans of their biggest rival, will point and laugh. You call it an "obsession" as you're a fan of the team getting made fun of, and it's to be expected. |

Please stop. Boston won the div in 1995 and made the playoffs as a WC team in 1998 and 1999. Don't act like they were horrible. As far as payrolls go:
1998: we were 2nd and you guys were 8th($19 mil difference)
1999: We were 1st and you were 5th($16 mil diff)
Do you understand the reason tyhe Yankees haven't won is b/c of the crazy payroll? After the '01 WS loss George went back to his 80s ways and tried to bring in big name after big name. Our latest dynasty was built from w/in but we ignored the farm system and tried to buy talent which generally doesn't work. You can mlaugh all you want but Boston is a large market team had has 2 titles in 90 years of baseball, that's funnier to me than any recent failures by the Yankees.
Another example of obsession, I was in Boston on business last year and th Sox were playing TB. I didn't wear any NY clothing nor did the guys that I was w/ yet all we heard were fans talking about the Yankees and NY. When I go to Yankee games that never happens.
Another example, now that the Celtics are good all of a sudden Boston fans are talking about the Knicks. The Celtics were the Knicks until this year and the Celtic fans(the very few who weren't in hiding) weren't talking about the Knicks until this year.
I just think this whole rivalry stuff is a little out of hand. I love joking around but when we read what happend the other day and people are joking about it I think that's a little crazy. I don't think any Yankee fans are more annoyed by ARod's lack of clutch hitting than I am but what does that have to do w/ the birth of his daughter? If the headline was "ARod fails in the Clutch again" that would have been funny but it was "More proof ARod is a pussy" b/c I'm sure the guy who wrote is mr. tough guy just like all the Sox fans. |
