64 pitches and only 2 swinging strikes.
How come no one ever talks about Matt Clement? |

Matt Clement actually made the All-Star team his first year in Boston. He sucked but was 18-11 in the two years he pitched in Boston (he was injured in half of '06 and all of '07). He wasn't nearly as bad as Igawa or Pavano and his contract was for much less.
The best thing about Igawa from the Sox perspective is that the move was just a reaction to Dice-K. The yankees felt they had to do something to match Boston and they overpaid for a bum. Theo > Cashman. |

Pavano wasn't a good pitcher, when healthy, for the Marlins? Both Matt and Carl where .500 pitchers........ |

honestly, when pavano was a fa the sox were in the hunt for him too....and i prayed they didn;t get him...he had one decent season and i thought he was going to be a bust...not as big as he was but i knew he wasn't worth the price...fans here actually complained that the sox didn't get him when he signed with the yanks |

Theo has made plenty of bad moves, just none have come back to really burn him.
And everyone wanted Pavano, so enough of that. |
|
|
| stormodin |
| sure the sox wanted pavano. but many times in the a.l. east, offers are made just to drive up the price for someone else |

They would have signed him, there was no price driving.
They weren't the only team dying to have him, throw Seattle and Detroit in there as well. |

You're correct about Pavano. A lot of rumors had the Sox actually paying more per year (but the yankees offerred more years).
Theo has missed on a few moves but he rebuilt one of the worst farm systems in baseball into the #2 system per BA and BS. That combined with the Schilling, Ortiz, and Nomar moves (to mention a few), his track record is better than Cashman, whether a yankee fan wants to admit it or not. |

He's not trying to come back for the Yankees. He's trying to comeback for another team next year while the Yankees pay him for it. He's going to start flat toss from 60 feet in a week or so. He's a long time away from pitching in a game. |
