Mike D'Antoni has accepted an offer to coach the New York Knicks, according to a media reports.
The former Phoenix Suns coach, who was also sought by the Chicago Bulls, has accepted a four-year, $24 million deal to take over the Knicks, according to reports by Sports Illustrated and The Boston Globe, both citing a league source.
The Knicks did not immediately confirm that D'Antoni is New York-bound.
ESPN's Stephen A. Smith had previously reported that the Knicks had outlined a four-year, $24 million offer for D'Antoni.
He takes over coaching duties for one of the league's most high-profile franchies -- and one that has fallen into disarray over the past two seasons under former coach and team president Isiah Thomas. Following a messy divorce with former coach Larry Brown, the Knicks went 33-49 in 2006-07 and 23-59 last season. |

| I refuse to get my hopes up until the Knicks at least make it to the all-star break with an above .500 record. |

| Doesn't really matter who the coach is for the next 2-3 years, until some of these suicidal deals by Isiah are off the books. |

| I'm a DIE HARD Knicks fan, but you can bring Red Arabach back from the dead and he couldn't win with the roster and contracts Isiah has stockpiled. We will see Gas at 2.00 a gallon before we see Knicks make the playoffs and a decent run |

I am right there with you...I am looking forward to seeing what kind of off-season player moves Walsh makes. You saw how D'Antoni's style fell apart when that walking sandbag Shaq moved to Pheonix, now he has Curry AND Randolph to deal with. |

| When are the Knicks going to learn you can have the best coach in the league, but if you have shitty players you aren't going to win games. They were better off getting a young coach and blowing up the team, but the Knicks always have to make the big move and watch it blow up in their face. |

They've only really done that under Isiah, and thankfully he's gone. I think Walsh is smart enough to blow up the team and start over. And I don't think anyone thinks D'Antoni is "the best coach in the league." |

They hired Brown and watched him not turn the team around. Then they deal for selfish players like Marbury and Randolph. Knicks need to go young like my Sixers did and build through the draft not trading for washed up players. D'Antoni style with the Suns no way fits with the Knicks so they better blow up the team. |

This means the Knicks will be losing in fashion now instead of losing un-fun ugly stale games.....
That "Fun n gun" brand of basketball might in fact fit their player personnel better with Q-Rich , Marbury , Crawford and little Bushwick Bill......
They'll be like a poor mans version of Golden State......
Which night be good enough to snag the 8th seed out there in the watered down Eastern conf!!!! |

| Only coaches worth that much are Jackson, Pop and Sloan. |

Isaiah brought Brown along with every scrub on the team.
I think walsh is smart enough to realize that the Knicks are not gonna win with the team that walked off the court after game 82 this year. I expect(hope) him to make some drastic moves this summer. |

howard and paris Hilton on celebrity row could coach better than Isiah Thomas |

In another news, Mike D'Antoni is apparently retarded.
Seriously though, Walsh can't "blow up" this team. Curry, Randolph, and Crawford are all under contract for the NEXT 3 YEARS!!!! That's assuming they exercise their player options which they would be insane not to. There are no drastic moves to be made.
Even if Walsh were to buy these guys out, which is going to be the only way to get rid of them, they won't have cap space to make a decent move until after the 2010 - 2011 season, when Lebron is available. |

I agree, but I think my feelings were more from nostalgia than what may be best for the Knicks.
I would love to see Mark Jackson get a few years under his belt as a coach and then come back to the Knicks. He was one of my favorite players as a kid. I literally cried (I was 11) when he was sent to the Clippers. So as much as want him to be a Knick again, I would hate for him to inherit this worthless team and have to deal with the expectations of turning things around... |

| if it was mark jackson with ewing, there would be very limited expectations. paying dantoni makes things have to turn around quicker. kind of like signing larry brown |

It's a drop in the bucket that is the NY Knicks salary cap cluster-f. Curry, Crawford, and Randolph aren't coming off for 3 more f'ing years. Jared Jefferies still has 3 more. He's not as horrible at $6 mil per year, but that's still bad. Quentin Richardson has 2 more years at 9 per year. Hell, Jerome James still has 2 more years at $6 mil per year.
I just don't get why D'Antoni took this job. Certainly, he could have gotten comparable money elsewhere without having to take on a roster like this.

Dear Mr. D'Antoni,
Enjoy being 90+ games under .500 over the next 4 years. But hey...at least you will be $24 million richer! You and that fat fuck Jerome James are the 2 smartest men in the world signing with the Knicks! |

| Dantoni is a terrible coach. He had one style of play and that's it, he couldn't build around something different. He didn't give a shit about defense, just figured we would outscore every team in the league. Fuck you dantoni, don't let the door hit you on your way out of Phoenix. And I hope you crash and burn in new york. |

I have to disagree .. D'Antoni averaged 52 wins a season since he came to AZ.. Remember Amare Stoudamire didn't even play one whole season and he still managed to get over 58 wins the past four seasons wiht out his best player! Thanks coach D'Antoni for making basketball fun to watch..
Knicks will have to clean house and get a new pg to run the system .. |

a decent veteran point guard and the Knicks should still be able to make the playoffs in a very weak Eastern Conf Div.. Quentin Richardson can still shoot a 3 as did for D'Antoni before... |

We won the games because we out shot the opposing team. How often did we win against teams that were atop the conferences, like the mavs/spurs. Our wins were against teams that weren't that good, plain and simple.
Keep in mind, game 1 of the SA series this year, the suns up by 3, SA calls a timeout. D'antoni shoudl have put in better defenders, but instead he leaves in barbosa to guard finley who wound up making a game tying three. It's the little things that happen in game that I'm talking about. He is terrible. |
