05-15-08 Super Fan Roundtable Brainstorming thread.

In here I ask the Stern fans for help planning the weeks show. What are the hot topics?

This weeks guests are Neil Roast Writer, Taylor from www.TSS-Radio.com, Colonel J, Lori, & special guest Ralph.

RALPH'S BERRY BEST
- In the style of the terrestrial days Howard took off today without telling us about it. WHY? Every other Sirius vacation & the specials were promoted in advance.
- They started the show out as if it was a live Stern show and then surprise, it's Ralph. Fun way to start the special or did it drive you crazy?
- Thinking about the material he picked, did you like his choices? Is he a good judge of what's good on the Stern Show?
- Comparing to the other vacation specials, how did you like this one?
- Did you like Ralph as the host? Should he do it again? Should someone else do it?
- Was there too much Ralph in the Ralph special?
- It was sorta old Friday Show-ish. How would you feel about Ralph doing this show every Friday?
- What are your theories for why Howard had off today? Had to be soemthing pre-planned considering they made a special.

TEDDY BACK ON TEAM ARTIE
- Who's crazier Teddy for taking a new job with Artie or Artie for hiring someone he says is embarrassing, unorganized, thief?
- How long do you give them? Will it end badly again?

CELEBRITY SUPER FAN TRIVIA
- Who proved they are/aren't a super fan?
- Howard said there will be other competitions & then the winners of each will compete. Who should be in the next round?
- There was a big discussion over whether or not Jessica Hahn belonged on the next installment of Celeb SF Trivia. What your verdict? Was Jason a dick? Was Jessica overly sensitive?
- What were the hardest/easiest questions? How did you do? What did you miss? Do you feel you could beat the celeb super fans?
- With celebs like Kimmel, Shattner, Jon Favreau, Ryan Phillepe, & Neil Patrick Harris do the recent guests finally appease the naysayers who claim Sirius Howard can't attract A-List Guests or are these guys still not high enough up on the food chain?
- There was a big discussion about whether or not

WACKPACK HALF WAY HOUSE
- Howard suggested a High Pitch Eric reality show with the other people from the half way house. If it was a produced show done in the style of The Hogans or The Osbournes would you listen?
- Would other wackpackers move into Eric's building to be a part of the show?
- What would fans want to hear about? How to get on the show, sitting on hold, interacting with fans, ditching the bill collector, going to work, getting free stuff, etc

--------------------

For returning guests I have 1 slot open 6/19, 6/26, 7/3, 7/17, 7/24, 7/31
For new guests I have 1 slot open 7/3, 7/17, 7/24, 7/31

I try to limit it to 1 or 2 newbies per show & so many new people are requesting to do the show that the slots are filling up way in advance.

SHOW NOTES

Go straight to the super fan roundtable forum - www.TheFanShow.com

You can email the show at SuperFanRoundtable@gmail.com

CALLING INTO THE SHOW: When calling into the show, there's no need to give shout outs to SFN or your friends on SFN. We don't have a ton of time so please don't waste any of it. We already have topics setup. Please be a good caller and respond to the topics. Thanks 1-888-STERN-101

GETTING ON THE SHOW: Each week I start a roundtable brainstorming thread where the fans help build our topics and a listening thread where people discuss the show while it's happening. if you'd like to do the show, get in there and participate. Once you've been around for awhile and see how the show works, ask to be on and pick a open date. The schedule can be found here. We have 4 people on each show and I try to make at least one of them a brand new person who's never been on. You can make your requests here in the Super Fan Roundtable forum or you can email them here.

GUESTS OF THE SHOW: The show airs from the Sirius studios in NYC Times Square. It's on the 36th floor of the McGraw Hill building on the corner of 49th & 6th in studio 21. (Google MAP) Guests should be there at 6PM so we can do mic checks. The show goes live at 7PM. You can not bring any friends. our studio is very small and there's really no place for them. I'll need your full name in advance and you need to bring your ID for security. If I don't put you on the list and you don't have your ID, you will not be able to get in.

This is an office and you are expected to be on your best behavior. It's not some free for all party. You shouldn't do anything that you would do when stopping by the bank. You cannot bring alcohol, take off your clothes, make noise, or bother people. I know you are a Stern fan but we're not out at the bar. You need to be cool. Don't stop them and ask for an autograph or photo. Everytime one of you misbehaves, I get a new rule to follow.

You CAN NOT walk around Sirius. You will be escorted from the upstairs lobby to the studio and back out. Do not take it upon yourself to just walk around & check things out. Nobody is allowed to stop by other shows. DO NOT stop by Ferrall's studio under any circumstances even if you think it's OK. I've been told by management that it's not. If you'd like to be a guest on Ferrall, they need to put you on their guest list.

You may take photos in the studio but please do not take pictures in the halls or lobby.

DO NOT sign the wall.

All plugs must be approved in advance. If you are going to be on the show and you have something to plug, you need to let me know the day before. ANYONE WHO PLUGS A WEBSITE OR BUSINESS WITHOUT PERMISSION WILL NOT BE INVITED BACK.

How Mis Men gets two hours and SFRT doesn't is beyond me. It really puts you in a bind Mutt in the fact that there are some topics people really want to talk about that could take up the whole show, yet I understand you want to get to other topics so it makes it feel rushed. If you don't get to the other topics, though, people feel as if you purposely ignored them. It would be nice if they had a Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday schedule. Perhaps have 1 hour each day where Tuesday and Thursday is topical and Sunday is open lines (talk about whatever callers want).
MrJeff2000
If Howard is serious about not having more kids, than a vasectomy should be a no-brainer.

Artie's been lucky - but he's another candidate for snipping.

thanks

If I was willing to move to the weekend I could have the time. A sat or sun show would fuck up my weekends at the beach. just can't do it. during the week, things are locked in and they don't have a 2hr slot.

Fridays would be the only day that could possibly work. the schedule is already fucked up on Fridays anyway. we could probably find additional free time in the schedule then but Fridays seem like they are always in flux.

WEDDING PLANS
- live music at the Stern wedding including Phoebe Snow & Clay Shaw but with people like Billy Joel there who knows.
- more vasectomy talk
SleepingWarrior
Better guests at Howard's wedding than Gary gets for the show itself. Why won't Howard break down and ask some of his A-list friends to come in once in a great while instead of their wives.

Then how 'bout letting Tim have the Summer to figure it out on Sirius' end and tell them what months of the year you wouldn't mind doing a 2-hr weekend show? Just dial it back to one hour on Thursdays for whatever months you have weekend conflicts. Shit definitely goes by too fast though...too many topics worth discussing every week.

You gotta discuss this bowling show ........ has Howard jumped the shark?
bbmoose9
How about discussing when you first heard the show and how(was it because of a friend listening and you over heard it or was just checking out what the deal was with this guy named howard?) you started listening.
What really happens behind the scenes when a planned show segments goes down the crapper.
What was the most rare memorable moment of the show you can remember and why?
Who has been your favorite guess on howards show and why.
Why does howard almost daily start the phone calls with the same few people all the time?
Will howard ever again do a friday show? will/would he let everyone know ahead of time or would it be a suprise for the fans? like when they did the isdn sound check that 1 night.

Ryan Phillipe and Jillian Barberie are must haves for the next round. I suppose you could throw in Sarah Silverman too.
BARNZsongwriter
I think the fans need to come up with a list of questions that would determine if a celebrity is really a SUPER FAN! There should be a two part Super Fan test, the first is for K-Rock Era and the second part is the Sirius Era.

Sirius has been such a boon to people who couldn't listen to all the shows during the K-Rock era, but with the replays and History of Howard Stern, even Sirus late cummers who are Superfans should be able to answer questions from both quizzes.

I bet if it were multiple choice Jerry would not have done as bad.
C.I.A-Hole
The Bowling Show on Howard TV

-Was it worth the Hype?
- Has Scott the Engineering found something he excels at?
- What other types of special programming should HTV consider?
JerzeyMike
Good or bad, something’s going on with Howard TV!! Original short films, documentaries, skits and behind the scenes action may just be the thing that helps. Tim & Doug have to come to the same conclusion that Mis-Men/Koc have, and that is Wackpackers are a fan draw. ETM should get a chance to make the movie, “but will he come through?” Keep listening!!
Colonel J

It's okay to say no, I'm not a chick whose feelings will be hurt :o

I got your message about going up the turnpike but haven't heard back to the reply I sent. I can't figure out if you don't check your PM's with any frequency or are just ignoring me :D

I'll meet you where ever. I'd just rather do that than figure out how to get into the city, parking, finding the building etc. I'll drive if you want to be Goose to my Maverick.
Hoboken Pete
Re: Whack Pack Halfway House, do you remember when they were going to have the Wack Pack Conclave and elect a dope? Giving Hi Pitch a shot at being elected Dope (with maybe a big cash prize) could be radio gold. All whack packers lack money, so letting them fight it out for big bucks would be hilarious.

I would suggest a 'this is your life' for Eric with all the people he's fucked with/over.
DaDocXL17
You have to talk about eric the douchebag calling in and whether it is getting to be too much? His calls absolutely kll the momentum of the show and are a total downer

Jon Favreau - he's so money

You honestly think that this is a list of "A" celebrities?

I'll give you Jimmy, thats it.

Shattner & Doogie are HAS BEENS.
Ryan Who? (Yes I heard the show when he was on, maybe C list)
Jon Favreau (only good thing is his name starts with FAVRE!)

Why won't Howard interwiew current stars? (ie: the cast of Lost, sad to say but oral & anal interviewed quite a few of them)

"Oral and Anal" do kiss ass interviews.

That being said. I wouldnt mind if Stern did a kiss ass interview every once in awhile to get guests like that. But he would have to do every interview like that to make a difference in who comes to the show.

Unless its all Gary's fault

I replied to your email Mutt - let me know!

You gotta be fucking kidding me if you think Jon Favreau, director of the biggest movie out right now is not A list.

Ryan Phillipe? Definitely A list.

NPH? Not A list exactly, but a big star none the less. Same goes for Shatner.

Kimmel is B+ maybe A-

Regardless - the fucking cast of LOST? You gotta be kidding me. On what World are any of those people remotely better off than any of the guests you just listed. They are definitely several steps below. The only argument is Michelle Rodriguez but she is quickly dying down.

Thank you for bringing this up. I think the fans are more upset about not saying anything ahead of time than anything else. Most of us are grown ups, we can handle it if Howard needs to take a day.

I don't have to repeat countless posts; however, I feel that Howard disrespects his audience base. He brags how educated we "fuckheads" are. Treat us appropriatel and announce when there is a day or extended time off.

I will be listening to other Sirius channels and FM radio. I do not enjoy any of the best of crap. I don't have to hear repeats; life moves forward. Is Howard turning his channels into Stern-oldies?
NineFromFylth
I think the whole "confusion" with the Mike Walker game was proof that he knew he wasn't going to be in today.

I am pissed about this though, beyond words.
What a slap in the face to fans, KNOWING that the majority hate Ralph.
Why put the Ralph special on the day of his unexpected absence before the weekend?
x76
Everything goes through hot and cold phases. I wonder how Howard feels about the lack of fire-in-the-belly or eye of the tiger or whatever you'd call it regarding the show.

The blond model, the mansion in the Hamptons, the three-day schedule, the obvious problems with Artie shitting on the show and somehow not being removed/replaced... even the most ardent Kool-Aid drinker has got to admit at least to himself that something is lacking compared to shows from what is looking like a more robust era.

And getting shit on while subscribing to this little fucking space radio instead of just listener loyalty while on FM bites. No Friday shows? That's a sore that's never scarred over.

It's like fucking and eventually you realize your partner is running dry. You not into this?

I'd just like to reiterate the previous posts...

At this point its not about the vacation its about the lack of notice that the show won't be on. Just a simple, "Hey, we won't be on tomorrow, see you on Monday" would have been enough. No need for him to go into details (be it he is getting married as it looked like earlier or his daughter graduating from college as it appears to be now) just a nice heads up works. Its just a matter of common courtesy really.

i'm really not as annoyed as most of the peeps here but i get everyone's point...plus his show is a paid service now and ratings dont matter anymore(which was obviously a big factor during terrestrial days)
Ignatius Reilly
is Stern ratings obsessed again? Thats why he wont announce days off?

Or is Sirius ratings obsessed. Wanting to be as consistent as possible for potential clients.

I think the more likely reason is Stern is just to much of a baby to deal with a couple phone callsbitchin on the day he announces.

This was he comes back Monday and can take a phone call or 2 on it but distract the mob with a new show.

Well played Stern

Thought the Ralph special was good. I enjoy the early 90's stuff as that was before I started listening in 95. I do agree with the others that feel that some sort of announcement should be given. I think that the specials and other programming are better accepted by the fans when they know it's coming an example being the nearly universally positive comments on the "Stuttering John" shows.

Reality Radio would not be good. A real show would be for Sirius to rent a shitty apartment in NYC and have HPE, Big Foot and any other wack packer who needs a home live there.

Mic the place, and let the good times roll.

Its just a matter of common courtesy really .

What does Howard the narcissist know or care about common courtesy? He shows little towards his staff (except Quivers) and none towards his listeners. He arrives cum entourage to events and leaves when the mood strikes.

He is so far above us all he need not take notice of us.

They started the show out as if it was a live Stern show and then surprise, it's Ralph. Fun way to start the special or did it drive you crazy?
- Thinking about the material he picked, did you like his choices? Is he a good judge of what's good on the Stern Show?

I was surprised with Ralph hosting unanounced. I did like the new and classic Ralph Song parodies. I really liked the Sam Kinneson vs Jessica Hahn clip.

Nah.
1) The new Marchasi wedding dress will take a few weeks to construct.

2) Ralph would probably be there.
