So much for that.
Spygate is over.
Now all we have to do is listen to the pissed off, bitter, Eagles fan, Arlen Specter who is in the back pocket of Comcast. |

After meeting with ex-Patriots video assistant Matt Walsh for three and a half hours Tuesday and reviewing the tapes Walsh presented, the NFL will not further penalize the Patriots regarding the SpyGate affair.
According to commissioner Roger Goodell, Walsh claimed there was no Rams Super Bowl walkthrough tape, he never saw such a tape, and that Walsh was on the sidelines during the practice in full Patriots gear. Other than filming signals, Walsh said he knew of no other cheating by New England. Walsh did say the Pats allowed players on injured reserve to practice, which is against league rules, and that players scalped Super Bowl tickets. Goodell says the NFL will look into those issues, but has no plans to take action. This appears to be the end of SpyGate, finally. |

| I saw the tapes and you can't even tell which is the correct defensive signal. You got 5 coaches and 5 players waving their hands so I don't know how they can figure out which is correct. Then most teams change their signs every couple of weeks if not every week and even Goodell said teams should be prepared for this so it shouldn't have had much of an impact. |

Specter has had a long history of battles with the NFL. In November 2005, he sought to have the Philadelphia Eagles and the NFL investigated for violation of antitrust laws over their handling of Terrell Owens. In December of 2007, he sought to have the law that allows the National Football League to sign lucrative television contracts on behalf of all 32 teams repealed. In February 2008, he sought to have religious organizations declared exempt from NFL copyright laws. |

Because that dipshit was praying that Walsh had some type of evidence that would further prolong the already overblown "spygate" matter.
pretty much every game, huh? And you would know this how? |

As an unbiased 3rd party (I'm not from Boston but I don't hate the Patriots either like most NFL fans), this is what I learned after the NFL interviewed 50 witnessess and Matt Walsh:
1. There was no videotaping of the Rams' walk-thru.
2. The Pats didn't use the tapes during the games.
3. Belichick said he "misinterpreted the rules" but he is lying because Walsh was told "not to get caught".
4. Some Patriots sold their Super Bowl tickets.
5. It is legal to steal signals, teams should expect it and change/hide signals. It is NOT legal to videotape them...hence the earlier penalties. Eventhough many Patriots fans say "every team does it", it doesn't sound like it.
6. The Patriots did not mic up defensive players to steal audibles of the offense which was rumored.
7. The Patriots did not steal frequencies of the opposing QB headsets to hear plays which was also rumored.
8. The Patriots had guys practicing who were on I.R. and were not supposed to be practicing.
9. Matt Walsh looks kind of dorky and a little like a bitch in this whole deal.
If you hated the Pats before and thought Bill Belichick was the devil, you probably still do. If you are from N.E. and thought they got a bad rap for small infractions, you probably still think that too.
All in all, a happy day for the Patriots organization, the Boston Herald should be sued, and maybe we can stop talking about Spygate in football and The Mitchell Report in baseball!!! |

Walsh said they weren't able to do it EVERY game because of security and they didn't do it to teams they didn't think they would see in the future. So they only cheated in half the games probably.
But do you really think it is that big of a deal? It's cheating and it's wrong but I can't see how it is that big of an advantage. But they kept doing it so I guess Belichick got something out of it. |

It was obvious when Walsh was told to "not get caught". That said, I really don't think it's a big deal. Belichick is fucking crazy and the guy obsesses on everything so he would probably overdue everything anyway. The reason why I don't think it's a big deal is because Sen Spector talked to the Eagles and Steelers and they said it didn't mean much and most coaches (Jimmy Johnson, Bill Walsh, Bill Cowher, Barry Switzer and even Tony Dungy) all said they didn't like it but really didn't think you could gain an advantage.
I'm originally from Hawaii (and lived all over - Navy brat) and I really don't have a favorite team but I'm tired of the whole thing. Let this and the Mitchell Report go. But I still wouldn't trust Belichick wife with my playbook or my wife. |

I didn't see where it was said that they taped pretty much every game, did you?
I am biased in this whole thing, but I have yet to see how this could have a competitive advantage, either down the road, or more importantly within the game being played. There just isn't a clear cut way it all goes down. I've read where It would simply be too cumbersome to forward and/or rewind through the raw tape during the three total hours of a game (including a 12-minute halftime) to make any use out of this information in the second half.
And, if the purpose of the taping was only to use it in the same game, why did the taping continue into the second half?
And every team sends scouts to team's games that they be playing during the season. Those guys are studying players, formations, sub packages, signals,...teams would be crazy not to really mix their stuff up from week to week.
I think what it really comes down to is that Belichick broke a league rule two weeks after the commish sent a memo recapping all the league rules prior to the season beginning. |

I realize that it is difficult for New York fans to see through their seething hatred for all things Boston, but can you just try and use just a little bit of logic for a minute? Why do you think that the commissioner has gone out of his way to stymie any further inquiries? Why penalize the Patriots and then close the book? I'll type the following in caps so that you and every other bitter cynic gets it:
SHADY PRACTICES WERE AND ARE COMMON THROUGHOUT THE NFL. ALL TEAMS TRY TO GAIN COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES.
That's it in a nutshell. The only difference between your team and the Patriots is that they got caught... or rather, they got turned in by a bitter rat fuck ex-defensive coordinator turned rival head coach. Just be glad that Goodell stopped it there. You had better believe that most of the coaches and players in the league are happy about it and want this thing put to bed. Only ESPN and other media outlets want to milk this non-story for everything that it's worth. This is a disappointing anti-climactic ending for all of them... and for all Boston hating New Yorkers. |

Well how was it useful? It's easy to just say that they had this advantage, and these signals helped them win games, but how?
tendencies?, formations? blitzs?..you can get all that from the game film that the coaches break down during the week. They are given the 11 on 11 overhead, and the endzone film like what was played yesterday.
As a coach, would you rather study a player or a team weakness during your prep week, or spend time trying to decipher what a hand signal from a couple of weeks ago meant? |

I've already said it's time to move on but please stop acting like this wasn't a big deal waht the Pats did. Not only did they cheat but Belichick lied about it to the commish. You can make accusations but there's not any evidence of such practices by other teams. I am sure plenty of teams have tried to bend the rules a bit to gain an advantage but the pats had been caught before and were warned not to do it again and they continued to do it which is why they were slapped on the wrist.
Do I still think the Pats have been a great team this decade? Absolutely, do I think the cheating helped? Yeah I do or else why would they have been doing it? Does it taint their Championships? That might be a little strong but it does bring them down a notch. I hope it's over for good, I hope Belichick doesn't continue to think he's above the law and try this again but we'll see. |

Goodell said himself teams should know about this and most teams change their signals so it shouldn't be that big of a deal. People think by videotaping it’s an automatic way. Not denying it doesn't help, but you still need the right play and players to execute the play. |

First off we don't know they did it w/o any video help and second if it doesn't help them then why were they doing it?
No one says the Pats were not a talented team, it's not like the '07 dolphins would have been great had they videotaped but it obviously helps a team and when the margins are so small any little edge can put yop over the top. |

That's silly, only a few Yankees were "caught" and we know most of the league did it. Where are the whispers about other teams? The Pats said the Jets did it to them but it was thrown out immediately b/c the proof they thought they had was nothing and the Jets had league permission to tape where they were taping from.
