Hall of Famer Goose Gossage has some issues with New York Yankees reliever Joba Chamberlain's expressive celebrations on the pitcher's mound.

"There's no place for it in the game," Gossage told reporters Monday during a tour of the Hall of Fame, according to MLB.com. "I will stand by that and I love Joba Chamberlain. I'm with him down in spring training. He's a great kid, but no one is passing the torch today. Nobody talks to them. When I broke into the big leagues, I didn't say two words all year

Gossage also told The Bergen Record that Chamberlain needs to remember what uniform he is wearing. According to Gossage, playing for the Yankees carries a different set of rules.

"That's just not the Yankee way, what Joba did. Let everyone else do that stuff, but not a Yankee," Gossage told The Record on Saturday. "What I don't understand is, the kid's got the greatest mentor in the world in Mariano [Rivera]. He's one of the leaders of the team, so you'd think it wouldn't happen on that team.

Gossage told The Record he would never have been allowed to show emotion as Chamberlain does. His teammates would have made sure of that, Gossage said.

"I'm trying to think of what would've happened if I did what Joba did, especially if I was a rookie," he told The Record. "The veterans would've sat me down so fast, it would've never happened a second time. Truthfully, there would've never been a first time."

Now Goose Gossage thinks Joba celebrates too much. “When I broke into the big leagues, I didn’t say two words all year,” he said.

That was in 1972. Obviously baseball players should act like they did nearly 40 years ago.

There are few things more tedious than old ballplayers saying that things were better in their day. Reggie Jackson was a model of unselfish decorum, right Goose? Your old manager, Billy Martin, always a class guy, right?

The kid turns around, pumps his fist and yells and people act like he chases the hitter back to the dugout and smacks him in the head like one of the Three Stooges. Joba does nothing different than 100 other players in the majors.

Here is all you need to know: Nobody is more old school and straightlaced than Joe Girardi. He has a crew-cut, goes to church and never curses. His idea of a wild time is giving his kids extra ice cream.

Joe Girardi thinks Joba is just fine. That should be good enough for anybody.

Congrats on the Hall of Fame, Goose. But leave the kid alone. 1972 was a long time ago.

Are you saying that good sportsmanship has a shelf life? Maybe the Indian might learn something if he kept his eyes and ears open and his mouth shut. Something tells me he'll never get to the Hall. No surprise... Fuk Girardi, he's a yes man, pure and simple. You'll not ever hear him talk shit about a player, he doesn't have the balls. He's lucky to even have the job, well, maybe not, no one else wanted it.... How many current Yankees do you think respect Girardi? And if you pick a few, ask yourself why..

most people have a problem with it.

He looked like he was a little too into it during the at bat against the Indians last week but is he always like that?

Why is it no big deal when Manny fucking stands there and jacks off when he hits a home run?

There's a whole bunch of other players who get excited and no one says dick unless it's a Yankee. Look, the Yankees blow right now. They need something to get excited about.

Fucking Papelbon was doing fucking Riverdance after beating the Inidians. That's not showing the other team up? And don't tell me it was a different situation, he was still acting like a fucking clown but everyone is okay with it because he's not a Yankee.

Who said it was no big deal. Even most Boston fans are annoyed by the behavior. But what can you do? When he's on your team you basically tolerate most behaviors and wait until the guy ends up on a rival team before you boo his ass, right Roger Clemens?

I don't have a problem with what he does to be honest. Romero on the Phillies does it pretty much every game and I love to see his emotion on the field.

Wow what a fucking surprise...

Dave you are such a fucking parrot it is ridiculous.

Seriously KOAW this asshole has nothing to do but cut and paste Peter Abraham's blog all over SFN!

Guess what Dave? We can all go directly to LoHud if we want to hear what Abraham has to say.

Anyway... Why is Joba the only player who is called out for celebrating? This is NOT Japan. Goose should shut his mouth.

For the bazillionth time, Joba is NOT the only player called out for celebrating. Far more has been written about Manny Ramirez acting goofy and watching his HRs than about Joba "39 IP" Chamberlain.
