| I live in CA, it's not as simple as the media is making it sound. The ruling doesn't take affect for a month and there is a voter initiative on the November ballot that would redefine marriage as between a man and a woman, if that passes it nullifies the Supreme Court decision and gay marriage would be again not allowed. |

I haven't read the court's opinion, but based on news coverage, I disagree with the above statements. The ban on gay marriage which was struck down, was the result of a voter initiative. The Court's ruling found the ban violated the state constitution. No amount of future voter initiatives can overcome that. Only a constitutional amendment.

California voter initiatives do amend the state constitution. The ruling yesterday was from the California State Supreme Court.
From this morning's San Diego Union - Page One "The secretary of state is evaluating signatures on a petition for a November ballot initiative that would amend the state constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman" |
