94 WYSP's Kidd Chris fired over guest's racist parody song
94 WYSP morning host Kidd Chris has been fired over a racist song performed by an in-studio guest in March. WYSP program director John Cook also lost his job over the fallout from the song "Schwoogies," sung to the tune of Blondie's "Call Me," that was performed March 21 in studio by a guest named Lady Gash.
"We found the song to be highly offensive and completely inappropriate for broadcast on our airwaves. When senior management of the station learned that it had been played, they took immediate steps to prevent it from ever appearing on the station again," CBS Radio spokeswoman Karen Mateo told us moments ago. "At the same time, we launched an extensive internal investigation into the situation including a thorough review of the editorial controls and systems we have in place to prevent this type of content from airing. We instituted additional educational training for the station, and have taken appropriate disciplinary action, including termination of the individuals involved." Mateo declined to comment on whether Kidd Chris would be paid out the life of his contract, which was to last another three years.
The song was also aired several more times that day and at least once March 24. It was also captured by listeners and put on websites as well as a clip appearing on YouTube. It was also linked on Lady Gash's MySpace page, which has since been removed. When we checked this morning, the YouTube link to the clip said the material had been pulled down by request of CBS Broadcasting. Before the clips disappeared, a Daily News reader, transcribed the lyrics to the best of his ability. Be aware that the following passage contains material that may be offensive to some readers...
"Coloreds steal your wallets and coloreds have pink feet. Coloreds are loud and obnoxious, when they watch movies. Sticky fingers, what they are, Always try to jack my car, Schwoogies! Or shines, you can call them anything you like. Schwoogies! Watch out, jigs will rob you, day or night. Schwoogies. Mookie doesn't like to work, Just rolls blunts all day long. But there's one job he can do, hold a lantern on my lawn. If someone else has your watch on, you can bet its a moolignon. Shwoogies! All Around, there's Sambos, monkeys, knuckle draggers, So much brown Mandingo, Go Mr. Bojangles (unintelligible). I have no problem singing about the Negroes."
Calls and text messages sent to Kidd Chris this morning were not returned. His agent Bob Eatman also did not immediately return a message left at his Los Angeles office. Chris was to celebrate his birthday tonight with a party at Whiskey Tango (Philmont & Bustleton). Porn starlet Mary Carey was among expected guests.

maybe not. Im sure there are some terms in his contract that indicate that if he is fired under certain circumstances the station would not have to buy him out.. |

Hope he isn't added as some of the promised 'new content' to spackle programming holes for Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. |

Sucks he got fired but this is great news for anyone who has listened to Kidd Chris.
Would be great to hear him on middays or even on fridays.
When the merger finally goes through, there will be plenty of money to toss around to whoever. My guess is things will be pushed back until something there happens. |

After hearing the 'Sulu' song a coupla years ago, I listened in quite a lot. Levy used to make a lot of appearances, and those shows I really liked. Otherwise... hand or foot? |

Yeah, he did the Sulu Dance song and also had the Iron Shiek in about 4 years ago, long before Howard did. |

This would be great if it happened, I just think they'll hold off until the merger goes through.
There will be plenty of channels and money then to offer around. It is basically the excuse that Bubba ended up mentioning in regards to his contract and only signing a 1 year deal. (I can live without Bubba personally if it came down to it but see the value because he clearly has a fan base)
They gotta get Kidd Chris around though. he fits in perfect with Howard and the whole crew. Imo, where Chris is better is with all the comics. They are all great on Chris' show. |

| Hmmm, I bet once the dust settles he winds up on Sirius. A few days a month I have to drive a company truck that doesn't have Sirius and Kidd Chris is the only thing remotely funny on terrestrial radio in Philly. I happened to be listening the day they aired that bit and thought that WYSP had really changed since they were allowing it. I won't say it was all that funny more like watching a train derail every time they played it. Funny how it took two months for corporate to react to it! |

The song, by a guest named Lady Gash, contained strikingly racist lyrics, with frequent references to "coloreds."
"We found the song to be highly offensive and completely inappropriate for broadcast on our airwaves," Mateo told the Inquirer "When senior management of the station learned that it had been played, they took again." After an internal investigation and review of the station's "editorial controls and systems we have in place to prevent this type of content from airing," she said, the station has added more educational training and CBS fired "the individuals involved."
Kidd Chris, whose pages have been removed from the WYSP website, joined the station in September for afternoons and was moved up to mornings when Opie & Anthony were dropped late last year.

It was PLENTY like morning zoo. You had Thomas and various "wacky" others like Brad the Cripple making phony phone calls, cackling, and "hilarious" stunts like dressing someone up like Santa, sending them to the shoe department of Wal-Mart and announcing over the loudspeaker that Santa was in the shoe department offering to let people sit on his lap for a dollar.
Although the one thing they did where they got on the conference call with the finance consultants and were all yelling out things was pretty good. If anyone gets a chance to listen to it, do so. |

They had people fly here for this specific event. They have close freinds of the show such as Open mike, Marey Carey and the Cripples that would normally not be in town. They need to hold this party tonight. Even though everyones going to be depressed..

I think some of the guys that said they were going earlier in this thread said the rooms were already booked wherever they were staying and they can't cancel with this kind of notice. Were there any comedians booked tonight at Levy's? I drive by the sign every day but didn't happen to see for tonight. |

| Kidd Chris is a pretty talented guy, but the bottom line is that he should have worked smarter. Look at the lyrics to that song. Sure, there's free speech but you can't put that on the air on testicular radio and expect to get away with it, even if it was done by a "character" or guest. I'm not a fan of CBS (worked for them on 2 different occasions), but I don't see any way around their choice. |

Chris is not going to end up at Sirius for multiple reasons. he will wind up taking some time off(maybe 6 months) till things cool down and take a job in another city/market.
the only option in Philly would be 93.3 being that they are similar to WYSP. the funny part would be if WMMR offered him a job and he went on after those two suckasses, Preston & Steve. |
