Pledge of Allegiance

(CBS) Most children growing up in the US memorize the Pledge of Allegiance. But, in one Oregon elementary school, the kids won't be allowed to recite it at an end of the year assembly.
The principal banned it that day so as not to offend Muslims.
One resident of Portland, Oregon was a little surprised when she received an e-mail from her stepson's school principal.
The e-mail said that the children would not be reciting the pledge because of its reference to God.
Instead, the students would memorize and sing the Preamble to the United States Constitution.
But it's not just non-Muslims who were offended.
At least one Muslim community leader says he feels the same way. Muhammad Najieb says that 'God'
is central to the Muslim faith, and there are several references to him in
every prayer.
Portland school officials say the principal was trying to be sensitive, but some Muslims say the ban caused hurt feelings, and may foster bitterness and division within the community.

So basically, the Muslim didn't complain, and even stated that he WANTED the Pledge to be recited, and yet somehow Islam is to blame???
You have really sunk to a new pathetic low. If the Pledge DIDN'T have "one nation under god ", THEN a Muslim might complain. Most Muslims believe that their invisible friend in the sky is the same as everyone else's.
This is a stupid story. |

"The Muslim", yep.
Most Muslims believe many things. They might believe their Allah is the same as "God" in other religions. At least among the 'people of the book' who they are commanded to kill. To hate. |

uh huh. And what about the religions of the other "people of the book"?
Do they not commit their followers to hate others as well??
Maybe you should spend a little time investigating them as well. How do you think Israel justifies its activities in Gaza and the W Bank??
You are so uninformed and scared, it's very sad. |

Good for them. There is absolutely no reason any one's imaginary friend should be injected into my Pledge of Allegiance. Keep your fucken fairy tales to yourself, and leave everyone alone. What next, we gonna put leprechauns into the pledge too?
How about this?...
"One nation, inhabited with unicorns, protecting leprechauns at the end of all rainbows, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. |

Even if Jews did have a theocracy in Israel the only thing their book tells them to do is control Israel. Build a temple. Stop invasions of it's slither of land.
I know it's hard to accept that Arabs cannot just attack and the Jews lie down for them. |

The god reference was only added in the 50's as a response to the commie boogey-man. This country has had this discussion before about god in the pledge
IMO, take it out of the pledge, take it off the money, it's not in the constitution. This is a country of laws, not men and their version of god.
I find it funny that as a child I also recited the pledge with the god language, but when I actually took the oath of enlistment in the military, there was no reference to god. |

I agree the government should not favor one delusion over another. Get it off the money, out of the pledge, and away from the court house.
Even as a kid I would just leave out the word god. In high school, at graduation, they wanted all of us to rise and remove our caps for the invocation. That was unacceptable and they took it out. In the military I told our CO I wouldn't reenlist if the oath contained religion. He took it out. I walked out of a court room on jury duty when they asked us to swear to tell the truth and included god. It's not ok to try and indoctrinate me or my family into your cult. Leave us the fuck alone with your stupid religions. All of em. What next? Should the school sacrifice a virgin to bring good luck? |

| "Under God" has no place in the pledge anyway. It should be how it was originally written. |
