I am very liberal minded, but SCOTUS' decision yesterday on guns was ok in my book. An Armed citizenry is one that can stand against a tyrranical government, and the more Americans with guns, the more powerful we are to safeguard our freedoms.
If Martial Law happened, how many police do you think would start shooting Americans for protesting? How many Soldiers? Do you think private Mercs like Blackwater would be deployed in the big cities like they were in NOLA, able to kill on whim?
What would you do?

Normally I would agree, but there are some very scary COG plans in place since 2001. Even Congress can't get access to them.
Some even posit that we might be under COG protocols right now. In that situation, the Media would be completely barred from discussing ANYTHING that the President arbitrarily deems against the National Interest.
Congress would be completely stripped of it's power, and the Bill of Rights would eb completely suspended.

The martial law would not happen under that condition. It's too small and would have no effect on those things necessary to bring about martial law.

Is the question, what would have to happen for me to take up arms against the government? It's pretty unimaginable. But I'll play along. Even though I can't imagine police or the military turning against the populace en masse, since they're also Americans, the scenario would have to be very dire. I think the self-preservation instincts would kick in. I think it would be more neighbor vs neighbor than anything. Fighting off bands of hooligans who sweep the suburbs looking for victims, kind of thing.
But I'd probably stop putting off that firearm purchase.

That's scary to even think about. What would really happen? These aren't the days when a well armed militia could fight against the government. So is there any other choice but to take it and watch Fox News jerk off telling us how this is good for us? If the Constitution were suspended then the new gun law would not apply.
Under martial law one of the first things to happen would be a rounding up of all firearms from the citizenry. Can't have any weapons in the hands of anyone who does not follow, or would consider being subversive.
I mean they banned & collected weapons in New Orleans during the Katrina crisis.

The active military wouldn't turn against the general public. Martial Law in the US would only be accepted by the public under exteme conditions. The towers came down , no martial law. Katrina happened , no martial law. Maybe something on a very large scale, but I doubt that as well.. Only way maybe if high value targets were hit( Pentagon destroyed, white house, etc...)

I would get myself prepared for anything. I'll have my solar energy system operational by the end of summer anyway. I have enough weapons to hold off any looter types although i don't think much of that would happen. I have enough canned and frozen food to go on for a few months. My small crops would produce only so much heading into winter but still a decent amount.
The big thing would be communications. I don't have a CB set up. I don't know how long the internet would be up or cell signals for that matter.
Interesting concept though. I seriously doubt it would ever happen. A scenario that could cause it would be repeated attacks that somehow couldn't be thwarted and those attacks would need to be chem/nerve gas or radioactive in nature. Things like that may warrant the implementation of martial law - but for how long? If every 3 days or so there was a dirty bomb in a major metro center or nerve gas attacks at pro/college sporting events and the FBI could not put a stop to it I could probably buy into martial law for a while - couple weeks, month or so maybe. But the what? What is the end of it?
As I said, highly unlikely but interesting.
