In this thread I ask the SFNers to help me come up with the weeks' hot discussion topics. What's up for this week?
howiehype51, KingOfAllWhites, josh (email), & MPClips are in.

- Does www.howardstern.com do enough for the fans? Do they need to do a better job getting photos up like Ralph says?
- If they revamped it like Bubba recently did, what would you like to see done?

- Howard says that he will NOT renue riley's contract in november. is he really gone?
- Are you tired of the "give me my money" bullshit. Is it time to find a new shtick?
- Even people who don't like the show say we need him just for clips to play on howard. Don't they have enough tape of him by now?
THE GARY & ARTIE SHOW
- Gary & Artie feel they were rushed thru their war stories. Did you need more? I've seen both sides of the argument where 1/2 the fans feel Howard fucked up and we need to hear every detail and the other 1/2 feel Artie took over the show and Howard needed to reel him the hell in. if you thought they were rushed, why do you think Howard did it?
- Can I finish 1 fucking story? Artie lets both Howard & Robin know that he'd like to be able to finish a sentence before they change the story. Do they interrupt too much or was he just being funny?
- A Sargent who Met Gary in Afghanistan talked shit about him on the internet and even went as far as to post personal emails and in response Gary came onto SFN to defend himself. huge mistake or is that what you have to do in these situations? Was Gary really an asshole or was in all in this guys head as Gary says?
- Artie didn't want to talk about the talk w/ Gary's & his advice but Howard wouldn't let it go. Was Artie getting pissed? Were we approaching the next big Artie blowup / walkoff?
- Artie's starting to feel like he's missed his chance to settle down with kids & the nice house. He says he's happy buy lonely. He's sorta dating 2 chicks but thinking about trying to call Dana. Is our boy growing up or having regret? Is he husband/father material?
BENJY'S MYSTERY DATE
- Benjy banned a chick over the vacation that he met on a dating/hookup website who he found out has an obscure show connection. They won't say what the site was or who the chick is but even though she's never done the show & isn't a famous person, Stern fans would know who she is. Who do you think this mystery woman is? (LINK)
- Benjy has talked about being on both www.jdate.com & www.craigslist.com, in the past but where do you think he found this chickie? (LINK)
NOTE: this was an almost meet & instantly in bed. no real dating. she's not married. she hasn't been on the show but somehow has a connection tot he show. she doesn't know who benjy is or that he's on the show.

- What's the feedback on the Booey contest? How did you like the finalists?
- The are really well produced. maybe too well produced. Like Gary, do you miss the shitty ones sung over top of a boombox?
- Have any of these been ones you'd call instant classics?

- IMHO they have to be ones you want to sing along to. Which ones did you find yourself singing throughout the day?
- Dan the Song Parody Man called in to point out that the Blues Bothers Booey is a rippoff of his but Howard kept it anyway. Considering his has been played numerous times on Sirius, should it have been accepted?

GETTING ON THE SHOW: Each week I start a roundtable brainstorming thread where the fans help build our topics and a listening thread where people discuss the show while it's happening. if you'd like to do the show, get in there and participate. Once you've been around for awhile and see how the show works, ask to be on and pick a open date. The schedule can be found here. We have 4 people on each show and I try to make at least one of them a brand new person who's never been on. You can make your requests here in the Super Fan Roundtable forum or you can email them here.
GUESTS OF THE SHOW: The show airs from the Sirius studios in NYC Times Square. It's on the 36th floor of the McGraw Hill building on the corner of 49th & 6th in studio 21. (Google MAP) Guests should be there at 6PM so we can do mic checks. The show goes live at 7PM. You can not bring any friends. our studio is very small and there's really no place for them. I'll need your full name in advance and you need to bring your ID for security. If I don't put you on the list and you don't have your ID, you will not be able to get in.
This is an office and you are expected to be on your best behavior. It's not some free for all party. You shouldn't do anything that you would do when stopping by the bank. You cannot bring alcohol, take off your clothes, make noise, or bother people. I know you are a Stern fan but we're not out at the bar. You need to be cool. Don't stop them and ask for an autograph or photo. Everytime one of you misbehaves, I get a new rule to follow.
You CAN NOT walk around Sirius. You will be escorted from the upstairs lobby to the studio and back out. Do not take it upon yourself to just walk around & check things out. Nobody is allowed to stop by other shows. DO NOT stop by Ferrall's studio under any circumstances even if you think it's OK. I've been told by management that it's not. If you'd like to be a guest on Ferrall, they need to put you on their guest list.
You may take photos in the studio but please do not take pictures in the halls or lobby.
DO NOT sign the wall.
All plugs must be approved in advance. If you are going to be on the show and you have something to plug, you need to let me know the day before. ANYONE WHO PLUGS A WEBSITE OR BUSINESS WITHOUT PERMISSION WILL NOT BE INVITED BACK. |

Did Howard end the Afghanistand discussion too soon and if he did was it due to his ego? This one should be addressed as it is almost unanimous that Howard cut it off too quickly. Howard can't be exempt from scrutiny when he fucks up and this time he truly fucked up.
Who is right here? Trunzo or gary? This one orginated at SFN, it should be tackled by the fans. |

How about addressing the "please hurry with this story - we're already behind" at 6:24am, along with the blatant story-rushing, AND the eleven (11) "anything else Robin" pleadings? Remember, this was the return after a 17-day break...
I'm sure I'll get blasted for mentioning it, but it's a legitimate concern as a fan. |

I know this wouldn't be a funny/entertaining topic, but when it comes to Gary, who is a unique case, and since most SFRT listeners are probably also SFN'ers, maybe clarifying the line between VIP Abuse, and Acceptable Ball-Busting.
Is anything negative not allowed?
Stuff that he has been goofed on on-the-show allowed?
Is a smiley with "Afghanistand" in it allowed?
Being a fairly new poster, I'd like to hear from Mutt what the law is when it comes to Gary.

on monday howard sounded exited to be back during the first few minutes, then it seemed like he lost control of the show. artie and robin were riffing about artie's party, artie was long-winded (IMHO) in his story-telling (good stories, just took too long to get to the point). i think howie should have used his legendary interviewing skills to get the afghan story out of gary and artie then promised more on afghan trip during attel visit (if that was the plan). the party stories were funny too - artie was awake, just needed to be dealt with as 2 different stories.
all in all, i think the afghan trip was a huge story and the King dropped the ball. i know i was psyched to hear all about it, and was disappointed when it got cut short. howard missed a chance to let us all know what's really happening over there without the military and political filters...

On the WUS today, I tuned into the middle of a discussion about the actual Stern Show Website. I didn't hear everything word for word as I was preoccupied, but the talk was centered around whether the site does an adequate job of getting pics up of the hot chicks who are in studio. Someone from the show seemed to think that they could have done a better job in the particular instance and then Ralph jumped in and said something to the effect that Howard knows the site could be better.
My question....With the relative ease involved in having a live webmaster available during show hours, could they be doing a better job with HowardStern.com? Not just putting guest pics up, but they could have things like live chats with guests just coming off the show or behind the scenes cast members; live cams...not necessarily in the studio if it conflicts with HTV, but maybe designate a different person's office during show hours or the green room cam for example. What about an IM that directly connects to Fred or Benji? It would be great if an audience member had a good one-liner or could tell them the name of a song they're trying to think of...something like that could be done very unintrusively, while actually enhancing the show. Also, the site could be done without live sound so as not to be an issue with non-subscribers...you would still need to be listening to really "get it".
My apologies if this subject has already come up recently. |

The SFN community ran with the story that Gary wouldn't sign the book. SSG Trunzo initially came to the site to make sure people knew Gary HAD signed the book, defending him from the false rumor.
The email exchange between SSG T and Gary? Again, SSG T was very complimentary, thanking him for the visit. He specifically mentioned the situations that did not go well, and also that he felt that Gary might have been very tired could have been why things seemed awkward.
"I am the one who is grateful, despite the awkward moment we shared. You took your private time to visit us instead of being with your family on Independence Day. That will always mean a lot. "

well, it seems like we have a debate then. he was being a ball buster with then norton book then said how Gary made him uncomfortable with his response. then while gary is on the phone, he interrupts and asks for a photo then posts how gary seemed annoyed. in both cases he made it seem like gary was the asshole. it was a really nice writeup but when I first read it I really thought it was slanted against gary & got the impression he was an O&A guy. I really though, he didn't need to say that. it's sorta fucked up. gary was on the phone, cut him some slack. you were a wise ass and shoved a norton book at him, he acted appropriately. then he posted gary's emails which I though made gary come off really well but it was all so he could post his really pissed off response.
I really appreciate the guy posting here, telling us stories etc. it was great. but that doesn't mean I can't point out that he seemed slanted against the producer of the stern show. |

I happen to like some of Jim Norton's comedy, although I can't stand O&A. He had a book by a comic, and comics that were there visiting. Probably didn't have anything else worth signing. Colin Quinn wrote the forward, and Norton is friends with Quinn, Artie, Florintine, and Rev. Bob.

maybe I'm wrong but I thought Norton was the artie Lange of the O&A show. doens't he sit in on every show? the reason I thought he was an O&A guy wasn't just the book. he sorta seems like he didn't want to say he liked gary (cause he's a stern guy) where as the others are comedians that he could get away with liking without having to apologize about it. but you could be right, maybe I'm being unfair. it's just what I thought when I read his blog.
anyway, i'm not mad at the guy. i was thrilled when someone reposted it here and really liked it. then when he show'd up it was cool as shit.
besides, I'm glad to see people on the other side of the argument. I had 1 sided topics. isn't much of a debate show then. it's a pile on and IMO, isn't fun. I reworded the topics so it's not so slanted. |

I don't think you're being unfair at all Mutt. You read things one way, I see them another way. You're being honest and actually reading the guy's stuff instead of relying on other people's interpretations.
It would be really great if you could get SSG Trunzo on the Roundtable to talk about all this, but I'm not sure how easy it would be from where he is, and this will probably be so far gone once his deployment is over nobody will give a shit anymore. |

Then it definitely seems the soldier is trying to have it both ways. When I read this, I took the soldier at his word that Gary was a dick and showed up with the wrong attitude. Unfortunately the soldier didn't know about the mob mentality of these forums and he left people with the impression Gary was a dick and everything went form there. However, it is still fucked up that the soldier posted those personal emails. It now seems to me that Gary was right all along, all those "uncomfortable" moments were all in that soldiers head. Sad. |
