| im having an arguement with this dude who insists that charlie weis is this great head coach despite the fact he hasnt won anything with his recruiting classes that have all been and i quote him "top 10 recruiting classes" although notre dame has more national championships then OU, OU has more wins in the modern era more weeks ranked #1 in the AP and BCS more weeks ranked in the top 5 in both polls and has a better winning percentage. he insists that the big 12 isnt the toughest conference in college football this year. but the SEC is kind of down with the performances of georgia and auburn last week and all the big 12 has done is put up big numbers on opponents and their quarter backs are insane. so i ask you guys who do you think is right. me or him. or WGAS WGAF but i figured i should get some more opinions and most people here are sports knowledgeable. |

| Charlie Weis is an amazing athlete. Too bad he blew his knee out 'cause it will interupt his triathlon training. |

As a Notre Dame fan here is my assessment on Big Chuck:
He sucks as a head coach. He obviously can recruit offensive skill players, but his abilities to lead pretty much end right there. He knows nothing about the college game and how to motivate his players. He is way too cocky and refuses to adjust his game plan because he thinks he is God's gift to offense. Ever since he stepped foot in South Bend the teams have been flat and his defenses have been shit. The guy is a cocky bastard and I would not complain if they fired him tomorrow.
Skip Holtz in 2009!
I don't know what the rest of your question was because it is a jumbled mess, but those are my feelings on Weiss. |

| Weis is a good offensive coordinator, but he isn't a head coach. Not sure why he doesn't call the plays anymore when that is the only thing he can do right. You don't want Holtz either that guy is crazy. Dr. Lou segment is the gayest thing on TV. |

| SEC is hands down the best conference in football.... fuck they are better then the NFC west.... i like OU, stoops is a ytown guy, but the big 12 is just shit football, they do the same thing every year, run it up on shit teams and get exposed against better teams for what they are, a shit conference in a shit part of the country.... i do like mizzu this year, but they will stumble, just like the rest of the conference.... OU is tough as fuck as usual but the sleeper in that conference is Texas, no one is talking about them, they will win the big 12..... |

i said specifically after last week. how can you say these teams deserved to be ranked so high when the #10 team in the nation wins 3-2? the #2 team only wins 14-7 against south carolina. after last week id say they are down a little.
this coming from an sec fan. youre not biased  |

dude, labeling the SEC "down" after the results of a single week is just asinine.
SEC teams almost always play each other close, that's nothing new. |

ok lets go back another week. auburn wins 27-13 against southern miss. it took florida into the 4th quarter to really handle miami. tennessee lost week one to a shit ucla team. |

you're cherry picking individual games and results... yeah, Tennessee traditionally plays like shit on the west coast...
look at the HISTORY over the past couple seasons of the teams you're deriding.
The SEC is FAR AND AWAY the best conference in college football and it isn't remotely close. |

thats very true. and yeah im probably a little biased sice im an OU fan but modern era the numbers speak for themselves. OU is the better team over the long period. im probably too young to have witnessed/remember the glory days of ND. but of the last 6 or 7 years ive watched college football they had that one good season with quinn(there were probably more?) and they got stomped by ohio state. and we know what ohio state is doing these days. and he even said and i quote " ND will be 11-0 going into the USC games and beat the trojans" i just cant see that happening(both 11-0 and beating USC) |
|
|
| Dirty South |
| well, typing frankly, notre dame is absolute shit. OU is head and shoulders above ND right now and it has been a LONG time since i would put ND on the same level as OU. |

over the past couple years hands down they are. and its probably too early to really say who is the best conference(SEC is the obvious pick because of their history) question though how do you decide who is the best conference. the conference that plays each other close? or the one that wins the most bowl games. or the one with the most ranked teams? |
|

| Dirty South |
probably at the end of the year a combination of all 3. if every team in the PAC-10 plays each other close except for USC who blows out everybody, that means the PAC-10 is pretty shitty after USC. etc. etc.
you want to talk about recent history, what about alabama slapping the shit out of clemson? clemson was ranked in the top 10 at the time and bama was like 24th. |

i know thats why i never mentioned them in my arguement to the conference being down. and dont get me wrong im not saying im right thats why i came on here and asked for some opinions. but if the big 12 doesnt flop in the big games, they have a good shot at being the best conference this year with all the offenses. but we will see its a long season and OU tends to drop a couple stupid games in the season. |

| the big 12 is second in the nation right now. they've got a lot to prove if they're going to move past the SEC. the SEC has been PUTTING UP results for a few years now and doesn't show signs of slowing down anytime soon. |

yeah i agree but there is a shot that the big 12 moves ahead of them this year and probably only for this year. |

A Big East school that is now 1-2 this season with their only win coming against a 1-AA team ran up 48 points against your mighty Sooners last year in the Fiesta Bowl.

Fine take this season out of it. Oklahoma, who was supposedly the best team in the Big 12, still got run over by a team from a conference that everyone believes is the weakest in the BCS pool.
Look, I think OU has an excellant team led by maybe the best QB in the country, but they haven't won a January bowl game since 2002. |

i agree im very skeptical of their play in january. ive witnessed it first hand its very dissappointing. the rich rodriguez spread offense at west virginia was second to none they ran that shit like nothing. i think they deserved to win it. typically OU going in as a favorite they lose, and underdog they win(lost to lsu, usc, boise, wvu) (beat orgeon(holiday bowl with rhett bomar) missouri(big 12 championship last year). i dont know its still early in the season so anything is possible. |
|
|
| profoundnotions |
| ok my arguement is completely shattered with missouri playing buffalo and only up 17-14 so sec is the best conference. |

| profound: upsets and 'dogs playing better teams close is a weekly occurrence in college football. you're reading way too much into individual results. |

If so , WHERE HAVE THEY BEEN the last 3 years?
Yale and Harvard have evry deep traditions too, and they have never lost a Bowl game in their entire history. |
