Yankees set 3-hour open house of field before Sunday's finale
Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Fans will be allowed to walk on Yankee Stadium's field for three hours before the ballpark's final game Sunday.

Gates will open at 1 p.m. -- about 7 hours, 15 minutes before New York plays the Baltimore Orioles in its final game at the 85-year-old stadium.

For the first three hours, fans can walk through Monument Park, behind the fence in left-center, and walk along the warning track in the outfield and to home plate. Field access will end at about 4 p.m., and Monument Park will close at about 6:45 p.m.

Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Goose Gossage, Ron Guidry, Graig Nettles and Bobby Richardson are to be part of the pregame ceremonies, which start at 7:05 p.m.

A closing ceremony for the stadium will be held after the season. New York moves to a new $1.3 billion Yankee Stadium next door. The first regular-season game there will be April 16 against Cleveland.

IMHO a private profitable corportation ripping off the taxpayers for hundreds of millions of dollars is important.

A couple hundred thousand I agree, but we are talking close to a billion dollars!

Dennis Kucinich is a grumpy munchkin

Representative Dennis Kucinich suggested approval for $924 million in tax-exempt bonds for the construction of the new Yankee Stadium could be rescinded, due to some questions about the land's value. He said his probe found "substantial evidence of improprieties and possible fraud by the financial architects of the new Yankees Stadium." Last week, the Daily News' Juan Gonzalez had a column noting the city's assessment of the land worked out to be $275/square foot -- but city assessors previously valued it at $25/square foot. The IRS noted the different valuations ($40 million vs. $204 million) and may investigate further.

He is grumpy because he wants people to be held responsible?

He is looking out for the taxpayers. Which is why he was elected...

If this was any other team, you would agree with me.

Nope that is still Yankee stadium. Even the Yankees out of the playoffs, yankees win again. All star game at Yankee stadium. Cover of sports Illustrated this week.

You might be the only mets fan who actually likes shea stadium. I am not even making fun of the mets now. I went to Shea about 25 years ago with my grandfather and it was a shithole then

Why do you put words in my mouth and assume stupid shit?

Shea stadium is a dump that I can not wait to see go. However it was our dump, so it will always hold a special place in my heart..

By the way Yankee stadium is far from a palace. Some would call it a shit hole as well. Just a different type of dump...

You sound like a idiot.....You do know congress can do more then one thing at a time.

Just because you can not walk and chew gum, does not mean nobody can!

I do not know about anybody else. But I am glad elected officials are looking into this:

-Among the committee's findings are that the taxpayers' investment would result in creation of "only 15 new permanent jobs," and that a luxury suite was "secretly acquired" by the New York State Industrial Development Authority and the mayor's Office with stadium bond proceeds

-New York City inflated the property's value to more than seven times its actual worth to win IRS approval of the city's financing plan - and forced city taxpayers to, in effect, subsidize the construction.

-The city sold tax-exempt bonds at lower interest rates, allowing the Yankees to borrow more cheaply. Under the IRS rule, the city could issue bonds based on the property's value.

-Kucinich also made clear he wouldn't let up on the city or the Yankees - even suggesting at one point city officials could face perjury charges if it was shown they knowingly provided faulty information to the IRS. He said Yankee officials would testify Oct. 7 before his Domestic Policy Subcommittee, part of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Do you need a ticket to the game on Sunday to get into the stadium, or is it open to the public?

Just curious.

I hope the Mets do the same thing...

So ESPN is a shit sports network unless they produce a segment that is anti-Yankees I see...

Just because Jeremy Schaap says something doesn't make it true. I'll wait to see what Congress decides about these accusations.

The fact that congress even has to decide, says enough...

How does that make ESPN a shit network (other reasons do that)? What the Yankee organization is doing for the fans on the final day is nice (field access). I'm just saying they are apparently ripping off the city from everything I've read. But of course, I'm sure Old Man George and his two sons would never lie or do anything immoral and deceptive like that. :cough, ask Dave Winfield, cough:
