don't know guys! I still haven't received the unit I ordered using the Stern deal (thanks to Boots for the link) so I have no first impression of their entertainment channels but since Howard announced he is moving i started listening to Sirius music channels on my Dish Network home satellite (they have a deal and broadcast all of the music content Sirius has) and I have a couple of observations.
1. The sound quality is as good as any other digital source.
2. Online streaming is encoded at relatively low rate. Also it is pretty painful to change channels.
3. The Sirius direct online store is slow in shipping and lacks a good order status system
4. This is the one that bothers me the most. I've always taught that Sirius is the cool satellite provider and XM is the big corporation that jumped on the bandwagon only bc there are money to be made.
However from checking the different music channels I realized that most channels are programed badly. Repetition is out of control. You can catch a lot of artists on channels they don't belong to. I hear that some of the channels are pretty well done but the ones i listen to (mostly electronic and RnB) are pretty lame.
Now don't get me wrong i still think that Sirius is the cooler company and that 2 years from now the only 2 subscribers Xm will have would be Opie and Anthonies girlfriends.
Just wanted to see if i am the only one feeling this way. |

| Sirius is great, however some people seem to be expecting way too much. |

I wasn't trying to go all wah-wah-wah on you.
i was just expressing the few aspects about sirius i don't quite like.
It's technology and a concept in the making so we can expect that it's not perfect.
I was just saying that repetition is a problem and also that if you tune in to the hard rock station they sould be playing hard rock not chris rock!
also after spending some time listening to the rock channels i realized a lot of energy and resources have been put into play and the channels are good. I also read that they are hiring some of the all time pros for the electronica chanells. so i am sure sirius will be the best choice at least till they become number one. then they will go downhill or get bought by some huge corporation and they will steer the whole thing into the ground. |

| As a fan of all forms of rock music, I find Sirius to be far superior than XM, and there has never been a time that there weren't at least 3 songs playing simultaneously that I consider to worthy of listening to, and its usually much more. As far as programming the channels properly, I haven't noticed any incidents of songs that didn't fit the genre of the channel that they were played on...However, the funniest thing ever happened when I was listening to the XM channel "Deep Cuts" this past Saturday at around 6:15pm... (deep Cuts is XM's rare track classic rock channel)... The display showed the artist as Page/Plant, with the track being "The Ocean". I selected the channel and cranked the volume, only to hear the familiar sound of Dread Zeppelin's version of the song...I laughed my ass off for a second, then enjoyed the rest of the song...it wasn't Jimmy and Robert jamming on one of my favorite Zep tunes, but the combination of the groove and humor was very entertaining. For those of you not familiar with DZ, they are a band that covers mostly Led Zeppelin songs, but they play them Reggae style, and the lead singer is an Elvis impersonator. Somehow they actually pull it off and it sounds great, but to mistake their version of any song for that of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant is regoddamndiculuos! |

| I've had sirius for almost 2 years (you should see the size of the thing, i get pulled over for obstructed view). Other than clunky units, sirius rocks. I agree with shabadoo, "i don't listen to the crap you do". Check out the rock stations, some repeat but overall they are very good and the sound quality is superb. Listen to some liberal talk (Young turks on talk left), or air america. |
