For almost five months now, the Yankees have practically stalked Randy Johnson. But on Wednesday, they did something nobody saw coming:
They informed the Diamondbacks they were no longer interested in trading for him.
The question is: Do they mean it? Or was this just their cagy, Yankee-esque way of telling Arizona it's time to get serious -- or else? |

The Yanks have the advantage because the UNIT has a no-trade clause and he really only wants to play here in NY for them. So the Yanks know they don't need to give in to Arizona anytime soon, because the Dbacks don't really have any other options.
The Dbacks will be a terrible team with or without Johnson.... they should be looking towards the future (3-4 years from now). And the Yanks should just wait them out. |

| Dbacks will either keep him or trade him to the Yankees on more of the Yankees terms. They trade Schilling for a bag of baseballs and now they want the world for Randy Johnson. |

Exactly ! The redsux got Schilling for nothing (2 scrubs and 2 sub-prospects) ..... the only reason they made that deal was to save money.
In fact, the Dbacks are in dire straights because Colangelo bought himself the world series title in 01, and now the team is in debt.
It's funny how you always hear people complain about Steinbrenner and the Yanks' payroll, but no one mentions the 01 Dbacks or the 97 Marlins who were put together through free agency and then were dismantled for monetary reasons.
At least George know how much he can spend and tries to win EVERY year. |

| i think its retarded for the yanks to trade vasquez to pick up johnson. sure he's a vet pitcher and all but they don't need more old guys on their pitching staff. get rid of brown, that guy was a scrub and waste of their time. he didn't do anything for the team in the post season. |

| Where do you think he'll end up? The White Sox pulled out (though they weren't a serious option for him). The Yanks pull out... where next? |

The Yanks aren't done talking. Right now, the D-backs are asking for the world, so the Yanks will just wait them out. It's not like Arizona has a whole lot of options.
With that said, I think It's a mistake for the Yankees to trade Vasquez. The reason they were so dominant in the late 90's was because the team was assembled together, grew together, and more importantly played together. The recent Yanks are nothing more than a group of hired guns, with exception to people like Jeter.
Then again, Yankees Suck. |

| The Yankees don't have prospects... which is what Arizona wants. They'd have to trade to get prospects to trade to Arizona, which is what they're having too much trouble with. |

| shilling had said before the trade he would never play for yanks, i dont think yanks had a chance at him, yankess should give d backs whatever they want, we need pitching, all our hittin became useless cuase of a little slump, get the pitching |

| Do you think the Yankees can wait out the D-BAcks, or will Arizona just keep Johnson for the year? While they wait for him, everyone else is getting signed. |

| well the "original" yankees from the 90s dynasty really is bernie, posada, and jeter. there isn't too many other guys from that era. they traded away most of their good young pitchers and hired a bunch of old guys who are prone to injury. |
