I don't know anything about satallite radio. I'm only going to have Sirius in one room of my house... small room. I look on the web and see "receivers" and all these other devices... Just break it down, what the hell do I need?

OK I just got Sirius this weekend, and I was a bit confused on what I was getting.

You have the receiver, which is basically the part that is used to interact with the user (i.e., change channels) and receive the signal. The antennae picks up the signal and cleans out any interferance and passes it to the receiver.

The receiver I bought was $80 dollars which I can move from my house to my car. I bought the boombox for my house and the mobile docking station for my car.

Since you will only be listening at your house you want to buy the receiver and boombox, which is $99. You should be end up spending around $180 for equipment. The antennae will come with the boombox when you buy it.

In case you're wondering, I bought the SIRIUS Orbiter SR4000 Receiver at Radioshack along with the Orbiter boombox.

I don't see why people just don't stream it in the house.

For one, you only get music in streaming, none of the other content, talk or sports.

Besides, sometimes you don't want to have to have the computer running just to listen to Sirius. Not to mention listening to the amazing sound quality on computer speakers.

Some of the music is in surround sound, who the fuck wants to hear that over the computer?

when i had to replace my initial unit within the first month, i was able to go to best buy and R&R the unit there, instead of having to ship back to manufacturer.

while waiting in line, i called the 1-800 listed on the sirius box and told who/what/where/etc.

i also gave them the new ESN of the replacement unit and it was "activated" while i stood.

when i got to the car, i tore the box apart and waited for the unit to "download" the activation. it took another couple minutes waiting in the car and i was off and running...

now remember, i went through the online signup initially. that took about 30 minutes...

I forget not everyone is into computers. My computer processes digital 5.1 w/ surround sound speakers. I also have preset to play throughout the house via a sound control box.

Sorry if this is a repost - I put it in the thread with the do it yourself video (which is good to see)

But i need some advice: I want the car adapter and some way to set it up with my house speakers inside. I know XM has some sort of "cradel" type of thing that you just put the receiver in and it will connect to your home theatre system. Does sirius have this?

I will probably end up with the sportster model - I drive a full size pick-up and have plenty of space. The video shows you taking off a lot of the interior panels - so I got an idea. I might as well as put some decent speakers in there if I already am going to have the panels off and am buying the quality radio... Does anyone know a decent pair of speakers that I can swap out for my stock speakers???
