I was looking into the sirius thing, then a buddy told me about how he went with XM because they have the tivo options. Like saving songs, pausing, rewinding, etc...
I looked into it and the only thing stopping me from running out to get XM is Howard going to sirius. No contract needed with XM and they are going to be getting all the MLB games this year also.
Anyone have XM? And what do you think about it? |

yeah that MLB on XM and Stern on Sirius pisses me off
I wonder if I can get both in my car |

Sirius is coming out w/ their own "tivo" type players. You don't need a contract w/ Sirius either.
Sirius has the NHL, NBA, and NFL. I didn't know anyone actually listened to baseball unless they wanted to take a nap.
The people who pick XM pick it b/c of the music. They tend to have deeper playlists than Sirius. |

| I am getting XM for Christmas. I decided on XM for 2 main reasons. The first is equipment. XM's equipment is far superior to Sirius. I am getting the new XM MyFI walkman. It is totally portable, has a builtin antennae, built in harddrive for recording 5 hours of programming, and it comes with everything you need to play it anywhere. From what I have been reading online, Sirius is a minimum of 1-2 years away from offering comparable equipment. My second reason is the programming. True they don't have Howard, although I am confident someone will stream it over the net, they do have Playboy Radio, and better music options. these are my reasons. |

I went with XM, they have much nicer hardware plus the playlists seem deeper, as someone else pointed out.
Plus I can listen to Opie and Anthony now and not have to wait 12 months for uncensored radio. |

my hubby got xm in his car a couple months before Howard's announcement. I got a free Sirius radio/subscription from Howard in NYC.
We both agree that sirius is better. |

| Oh Snap! |
I don't have either yet but I've read a lot of reviews for both XM and Sirius and have come to the conclusion that at present XM is the better buy. Some people have touched on the equipment advances already so I won't beat that horse. The portable XM MyFi Walkman is amazing.
I personally have my XM sitting wrapped under the tree right now. Wife demands that I wait till x-mas. Of course any satellite radio is better than terrestrial radio. And when Howard and Mel get Sirius up to speed I will most likely consider switching or owning both. |

I will say I went into the satellite radio not exactly sure what to expect.
I got XM back in September, and honestly, it was one of my best purchases ever. I absolutely love the music, I get O & A (which they loop throughout most of the day which is nice), and the sound quality is excellent.
I would highly recommend it to someone that can afford it. |

It's definitely possible, but right now at their current states, it would be more like XM buying out Sirius |

like sattelite tv...remember when directv had to compete with primestar and one other and then bought them out and now have a monopoly |

I have had XM for 2 years and love it.
The playlist on XM are much deeper and Sirius is more like a top 40 station.
I would not buy satellite radio for o and a or Howard. I use it for the music.
Plus XM is in better financial condition then sirius.
It has been stated that sirius is raising their rates from the current 12.95. And they say the new Stern show will be on only 4 days and have commercials. Yes Commercials....So basically from what I can gather it will be like his show is now with a few fucks and shits thrown in for good measure. |

Wait till January, and see what happens at CES in Las Vegas. Many computer and electronic companies reveal their new upcomming products and stuff. Spring and Fall is when a lot of new stuff comes out.
With Mel and Stern joining, Sirius will be rolling out the bling bling. |

Sirius has already said that they will not invest heavily in hardware advancements until they have a full, post Stern announcement, quarterly report. Wich means they are not going to even think about major hardware advancements until february, so that they can gauge if the Stern really is bringing in the subscriptions that they need to be competitive in the satellite market. |

I disagree...IO have both XM and Sirius and Sirius blows away xm in the music department...but then again, I like all types of rock and blues, in addition to several other genres, and Sirius is far superior in all of these areas. I must admit that the XM traffic channel is much better right now for the NY metro area, but that is the long and short of it. |

| pretty tight race here. It sounds like I should go with XM though. I hate FM radio. To many commercials and the selection of music on the rock stations are terrible. I spend more time changing the channel than I do listening to music. I love howard's show, but unfortunately I only get about 8 minutes max on my morning drive to work. The rest of the day it's music. The XM gadget with the tivo type stuff is awesome. Thanks all for your opinions |

| I found XM has many more "dead" spots than Sirius.Driving around in a city there where many times I'd lose XM and I was only around a three decker tenemant. |

stop messing with me! how am i supposed to decide without a straight answer! what about college football? xm or sirius?
baseball sucks. |

i have both.
have xm for over 3 years now.
sirius for about 12 months.
since i listen to dance channels only i cant tell you how the other channels are.
i wouldnt let hardware dictate which service you get, but rather which software gives you the best for what you want.
and right now, sirius has HS... |

Um...no they don't. Not for another year. So if you are basing your purchase on Stern, then you have nothing. You would be better off waiting a year and buying more current hardware when Stern makes the move. |

You are joking right? Primestar was a cable company with a 3 1/2 foot dish. I assume you forgot about Dish Network. They tried to buy Directv but the goverment wouldn't let them. I guess 10 million dish subs must have been an oversite. BTW I am a Directv sub. |

| I currently have XM and love the sports channels. I hate the way the two are splitting up college football though. It will be interesting to see how they handle broadcasting Stern. If its the same way, a show from roughly 6-10 then I probably wouldnt switch. However, if they made it a repetitive loop for the day then it might be worth my time. With work you really dont have time to listen to justify switching from one to the other. |

I'm not sure if you made a mistake or not but XM wont be doing anything with the Stern broadcast. |

| XM all the way. I love Stern but not enough to go to a subpar service with outdated equipment. |
