My girlfriend wants to get me Sirius for my birthday but she says she has no clue what unit/package to get
What are your suggestions? Nothing too crazy expensive, but nothing that sucks. Portability in the home is more important than car but it would be nice to have it in the car. Does it hook up with a fm transmiter or tape deck? |

All the Plug and Play Units allow you to buy a separate home kit and listen through your home stereo receiver. Sirius also has a Home Tuner which is a more professional grade product designed for higher quality sound. Other than that the look of the Radio should be considered, the price, and features.
The best unit out there by far right now is called the Sirius Sportster Replay, that unit allows you to pause and rewind live Sirius radio with a 45 minute buffer. Most find this to be quite the option. Our store carries it for $145.
You will also want to look at how many channel presets are available. The more the better, though I really only use about 10.
So here are some of the newer Plug and Play Radios out there for Sirius and their prices some of the prices include a car kit and some don't.
-Sirius Sportster Replay MSRP $169.99
-Clarion Calypso MSRP $149.99
-Kenwood Here2Anywhere Version 2 MSRP $149.99
-XACT XTR2CK MSRP $99.99
-XACT XTR7CK MSRP $99.99
-JVC KT-SR2000 MSRP $99.99
-Blaupunkt America $99.99
As for FM Transmitter or Cassette Tape Installation.
Stay away from the FM Transmitter if you can, the sound quality will annoy you as well as having to change the station you radio brodcasts to all the time. And Sirius does not offer the cassette deck option so far as I know. Your better off putting a bit more money into setting it up with an Aux Input or if not that a Wired FM Modulator. Aux Input is great sound quality but will cost about $75 more, and FM Mod is fine but will cost about $20. An FM Modulator allows your Sirius Radio to be wired to your car radio using one specific FM Channel, rather than having to switch around, like the basic FM Transmitter. And the Aux Input is made for your specific vehicles radio where your Sirius radio sends the digital signal wired to your cars radio VIA the mode or Aux setting on you cars radio. |
