I have been recording Howard with an USB FM tuner hooked up to my PC for years, and saving the files in 1 hour MP3 files. Then I sync the MP3s with my Ipod and listen on the way to the office, fast forwarding through the commercials. When he announced that he was leaving for Sirius in January, I started looking for a way to record him. I already have an XM tuner for my PC, so I had hoped he would go there and I'd be able to start recording from that tuner, but he chose Sirius.

I spent the last few months looking as various options to record him on Sirius, and found that TimeTrax, the maker of the software I use for my XM PC tuner, were coming out with a version for Sirius. I found out yesterday that their new product is ready and shipping, so I ordered one.

It's a box that connects between a few specific Sirius tuners and your PC, and includes the software to do the recordings on any channel in various file formats, completely programmable. Another cool new feature that they added is the ability to download the full song tags from Sirius's website in order to supplement the shortened tags that come across from the satellite downloaded text. So if you have it record a particular channel of songs, the software can automatically record each song, and save it as a separate MP3 file, with all of the appropriate MP3 tags in place. Very cool!

I also found that they have an affiliate program, so I signed up and if anyone clicks on this link and buys one, I get a small fee.

Hopefully this product will help some other Howard fans to start timeshifting like I've been doing.

Can't wait to hear the uncensored Howard!

Why not get a PNP unit and use the same setup as before?

I'm not familiar with "PNP". What is that?

I think I just answered my own question. I found that PNP means Plug N Play.

I was going to go this route as a last resort. But I wanted the ability to change channels for other recordings since Howard said he was going to be doing programming on other channels also, and I wanted to have the ability to set up my new system to record particular channels at particular times.

Also, I wanted the ability to record other shows or content on those non-Howard channels, including automated recording and taging of MP3 files from music channels.

The PNP way will absolutely function just fine for a lot of other fans out there. If you go this way, I like these 2 apps to do the manual recording of anything plugged into the input jack of the sound card:
Cybercorder 2000: http://skyhawktech.com/index.html
and
Replay Radio 6: http://www.replay-video.com/replay-radio/index.php <-one nice feature about this one is that it can also download podcasts.

Right now, I use both of these programs.

Anyway to tape Siriurs right into audio cassettes. . .

Can I connect Siriurs righ into a regular radio and tape with tapes?. . .or do I have to plug Sirius into a reciever and plug the reciever into a stero?. . .

There is also a program from Pocket tunes that will allow direct recording from the sirius unit to your computer. They will be adding sirius support this fall.

How far back do you jave shows from Jay?? And, do you save them??
wwfguy2000
As for Dr Gonzo's question I believe you can yes

Just set your Sirius recever's fm transmitter to something like 88.1 then tune your reg radio to 88.1 and just record, that should be a ok

Oh damn - so Sirius doesn't offer a recorder yet?!? Doesn't XM have one? I mean, obviously I ain't going to XM if Howard isn't there... but damn.... I just want a simple way to record the show each day. It's over by the time I wake up, and I like to start and stop it throughout the day, so I don't miss anything when I have to do other things. :(

The s50 should be out this month. smokes any crap that xm has.
Dante
ah! Thank you! That makes sense. I thought I heard there was a recordable version coming out... and I was surprised to run into this thread, which seemed to insinuate there was no "all in one" unit like the s50... prolly just my ADD... lol

can hold up to 50 hours of programming! Wow

I just hope they fixed whatever it was that kept the ReGo off the market. I had an order in for months before I finally cancelled it.
