GOD F'N DAMMIT!!!
Sirius is gonna start CENSORING 4 of their music channels:
Alt Nation (90's-00's Alternative)
1st Wave (80's alternative)
Faction (Punk/Hip Hop)
Hot Jamz (Hip Hop/R&B Hits)
They are doing this basically to appease Sprint-Sirius and Sprint signed a deal a few months ago so Sirius would provide Sprint with "Clean" music.
I am a big fan of both classic and modern day alternative music as well as a moderate fan of punk music. I was planning on subscribing to Sirius for Howie but am now reconsidering.......i don't want to pay for something that i could already get on FM (censored music)(plus there is always other ways of getting Howie...)
It makes sense to censor channels that kids listen to like the pop channels and radio disney etc. But it DOES NOT make sense to censor rock stations!

none of those sites really gives a firsthand source for whether this is really going to happen. these are all articles or blogs written by individuals, so they're only useful to a limited degree. sirius would be retarded to begin censoring its music without maintaining an uncensored alternative. it's understandable that they would want some clean options though - people with kids may want to have some stations they can tune to when the kids are with them.
by the way, what are these "other ways" of getting the show???? |

sirius IS being censored as wer speak . Hot Jamz, Alt Nation and few other flagship channels are completely bleeped now 24 hrs a day. If they start bleeping Hip Hop Natioon as well they will be the joke of the town.
I now get pissed every day i get in my car. someone please write to Howard and maybe we can hear on the air what he thinks about it.
IF Sirius is bending over backwards for Sprint (this is their resoning behind making 4 additioonal channels clean) how long before deside that Howard is too obcsene?
I have a year subscription. Bought it 2 days after Howard announced it. But now now Alt Nation sounds like it's been programmed by TOm Chiosano and i can' take it!
I was totaly willing to pay for sirius for as long as howard is there just to show support. I am not going to lose the show no matter what even though MEl's attorneys have always tried to scare the guys that manage to leak te show on the net and i am sure there will be another push once howard moves there. But even then I am pretty sure there will be ways to get it.
What do you guys think? |

| I think they might be sesoring some of the channels that might appeal to the younger generation or that parents might want to listen to in the car. |

i swear i heard a few f-bombs on alt nation the other day. until there's an official statement from sirius on it, i won't believe it until i see it.
nikibs, what songs did you hear that were censored? just curious. if 21, 22, 28, etc. ARE being censored, that's complete bullshit! they're the channels i listen to the most! :D
i doubt howard's show will be touched. there have been no reports of censoring on raw dog, have there? |

a lot of songs, can't quote them all but some of the artist i recall are the nine inch nails, rhcp and green day. i am sure i heard ameircan idiot completely chopped off.
in the past the dj's would put on the playlist the hits 1 radio version by mistake here and there but now it's every time.
i've been listening mainly to bbc1 in the alst few weeks so i can't recall examples, but will tune to 21 now and report in a bit.
also at this points there are more than 5 reports and about 50 posts i found on the net. Also channel 50 is so ugly now. just turn it on, wait 5 to 10 minutes till they play some 50 cent :) and you will hear what i am talking about. also they were playing 2pac the other day it was so censored i almost cried! |

| I agree with MJ. Just leave the stern show alone! My guess is they will somehow make Stern cost a few bucks extra to avoid any issues with censorship. That way they can ensure you are 18+ and they can make a couple bucks more. |

i just saw this post along with the NIN one. i'm really surpirsed. over the weekend i heard dr. dre's "it was a good day" but that might have been on backspin which, i don't think, was supposed to be censored.
this is really sad. i got sirius for stern first and foremost, but the music really excited me when i got my radio. i can't believe this. i might as well just put the musicchioice channels on my cable on instead.

i don't think this will happen. stern gave o&a a lot of shit when they said their XM station would have an extra charge associated with it. |

I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me if this is the loophole to get out of the FCC way. Plus it will give Howard justification to make a couple of extra bucks. O&A were boring and had no following so their "premium" station failed. I'm sure Stern fans will pay a couple extra bucks to hear him. |

I definitely would. But if Howard came on the air today and said that in addition to Sirius and inDemand that another charge would be put on my Stern Tab, I'd be a little pissed. I love Sirius and would enjoy it with or without Stern and I'm not a big fan of the TV show so I'm not going to buy into that anyway, but seriously - I think it would look really bad if Howard said just 3 months before the move that we had to pay an extra $2/month. |
