| and was going to by the Sirius Starmate today. I work inside an office building and cant get local AM stations in there and our local Stern station comes in decent when the weather is good. So I asked the guy if I would be able to get reception in the building if I bought it. The Best Buy Guy told the truth and did not push the sale. He told me that unless I was facing a SE window I would not be able to get a signal. He then pointed me towards an antenna to help with reception. I told him that work would frown upon me setting down wires on the floor just so I can listen to the radio. I only have a 15 min drive to work so I don't see the value of getting a radio. Damn if I could only work from home. |

I dunno, it's hard to say. Does anyone get good Cell Phone - especially Nextel signals ??
This one site that I go to, this worker has XM Radio playing no problem, but my Nextel phone gets very crappy at best and No Signal/No Service. |

Are you sure he wasn't just trying to get you to buy more shit? If you can get Stern on FM, you can most likely get Sirius.
I go onto a military base a lot and the reception is fucking terrible.. my cell phone doesn't even work. The only thing that works perfectly there is Sirius. |

what's cool is it just asks for your email for the 3 day trial... so you can just keep changing it. If you have a "catch all" email where you can put anything in front of the @ sign, then you've got it for free forever... or at least until they wise up and change it

You can currently listen to Stern online. The only thing preventing me from posting the site is that I don't want them shut down for all those of us outside the normal listening area. If someone assures that it's safe, I'll post a link.
As to Sirius listening online. I spoke with a very kind sales lady from Sirius the other day. You can listen to Sirius online but ONLY THE MUSIC stations. NOT THE TALK stations. So in order to get Stern, you need a receiver. She told me that the antennas indoors only need to be near a window or facing a window. So if you can even get an antenna to be directed at a window you should be fine. I doubt she was trying to sell me anything because I opened the conversation with, "I see your Sirius model number XXX-1111 and think that's the one I want for now. I am only using it for Howard Stern and maybe NHL Hockey. Anything else is a bonus so I want the least expensive option and I think that's it. Can you comfirm that's the least expensive, or is there another?" She actually directed me to a home/car unit that was less expensive - :D
So I think those people at Sirius are good people for the most part. Don't worry about them trying to sell you that "extra" antenna.

the site was mentioned a few days ago in general chatter. not sure if any of the mods deleted it but if you do a search it might come up. |
