King of all Blacks tried to mention this, but it sounds too much like a commercial. The link to FMQB has a picture of it.: http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=111018

Sirius Satellite Radio has announced the debut of its first wearable satellite radio, the Sirius S50. The S50 is not only a receiver, but allows users to capture and store up to 50 hours of content for mobile listening of both Sirius programming and MP3/WMA files. It is scheduled to hit stores in October.

The SIRIUS S50 has a sleek design, measuring 1.9 by 3.9 inches and is only 0.7 inches thick. It also has a full color display and voice-assisted channel navigation, and must be attached to a home dock, car dock, or executive docking station in order to access the Sirius channel line-up.

Other S50 features include the "My Sirius Channels" feature, which automatically gathers and refreshes sets of programming from the user's three most-listened-to channels. There is also the "My Sirius Songs" feature, which allows storage of favorite songs or talk shows, the "Scheduled Record" feature, which sets the radio to record favorite shows on either a one time or recurring basis, and the "My Playlists" feature, allowing users to store their own MP3/WMA library.

Also included in home and car kits for the S50 will be the Sirius Media Dial, which allows listeners to turn the knob to find their favorite channel, or they can tilt it to pause, rewind, fast-forward, or save a favorite song or show. The voice-assisted navigation tells the user what channel they've selected, so they don't need to be distracted looking at the screen. The radio also has presets for 30 channels, a jump button for one-touch tuning to traffic and weather reports or to a favorite channel, a sports ticker, and a "Game Alert" feature which prompts when the user's favorite NFL, NHL, NBA, or other sports teams are playing on Sirius.

"The wearable Sirius S50 provides subscribers with extensive versatility when it comes to when, where and how they receive their favorite Sirius programming," says President/Operations And Sales Jim Meyer. "This small satellite radio is full of exciting, easy to navigate features for everyone from the least to the most tech savvy consumer."

The SIRIUS S50 carries a suggested retail price of $359.99, and includes wearable accessories and a car dock, which includes an adhesive mount, a cigarette lighter power adapter, a remote control, an ultra-low profile antenna, DC input and line output. A home dock will be available for a suggested retail price of $99.99. A desk or wall mountable executive system, including high fidelity speakers, will also be available.

Sirius will release more information about the S50 on its Web site in mid-September.

"...must be attached to a home dock, car dock, or executive docking station in order to access the Sirius channel line-up."

If you cant listen to live satellite radio while you are jogging or working then it kinda sucks. it sounds kinda like a Sirius version of podcasting.

$359. its real pricey though. and i hope it comes with some kind of case cause that screen looks real huge.

In contast, XM has at least two devices on their website that are capable of airing live programming to the device, wherever the device may be.

if you can listen live portably, then im down for a christmas time purchase of this Sirius unit, if not I can wait.
ocpornclub
yeah, i don't get it. if it is a walk man then why do we need to attach it to one of the docking stations...doesn't make sense...guess where gonna have to wait until sirius.com puts out some info on it!
MrJeff2000
negatives:

1> pricey

2> only broadcasts in the dock

That's two strikes. At least the XM walkman broadcasts on the move.

NICE UNIT!

When it's in the dock (vehicle or home) it can play & record live radio. When it's not in the dock you have to play from the 50 hours of pre-recorded radio shows/songs which you tell it to record and it thinks you might like (sorta like TiVo's suggestions), or MP3s which can be transfered using a program that works sorta like iTunes.

Even though you can't listen to 'live' radio on the go I think this is a killer device. I love the idea of having a 50 hour portable device that will record shows/songs I tell it to plus shows/songs it thinks I might like. All that plus the ability to play MP3s - makes it a pretty nice.

The only real downside, besides not being able to play live radio on the go is that it's a little pricey at around $360 for the device and the car dock and $100 for the home dock. But what can you do - all iPod-like portable devices that play music cost a lot of money. My 1gb memory stick pro duo for my PSP cost me around $150 when I got it - that's just for the stick to put music on, not counting the $250+ the PSP cost.

Your pro duo memory card costs so much because Sony is using an obscure format for the PSP. A 1gb SD card costs around $75 and a 1gb CF cards are even cheaper. However you do need a device to play them in.
Keep in mind that a 1gb flash mp3 player probably costs around the same price as your 1gb pro duo card.

Its been said before that Sirius is a generation behind in Satellite technology. they are going to have to close that gap soon in order to lure subscribers like myself (portable people).

I like it :D

doesn't look too bad. Rego seems more promising. Now it just has to be released!

This one sucks....Can't receive a signal without the base unit. It just allows you to take recorded broadcasts with you...just like your current $50 MP3 player....big deal....Your can record to your mp3 or computer directly from the Starmate. I dont see what a $400 investment buys you.....sad when you think the XM MyFi was out last Fall.....

For $350 it ought to get me high and suck my dick before it makes dinner.

Why not route sound from my Sirius through my iMac, capture the audio on the fly, rip it to an MP3 and listen to it on my iPod..?

It's not actually a receiver, right? So what's the point? It's just a player -- which the iPod already handles. Everybody's got a 'puter fast enough to record audio, hard drive prices are as low as they've ever been -- what market niche does this product fill?
DogBoyRex
Another problem with it is that you cannot download sirius programing to your computer. What is on the receiver, stays on the receiver.
wm2044
step in the right direction but why are the sirius players so much weaker than xm? why can't we just get that delphi thing for sirius?

is it the same concept as a cell phone company making one phone for multiple carriers or is there something more complicated involved?
delraylocal1
The S50 actually looks pretty cool i think, although it is not truly portable, i will probably buy it because of the huge recording capability and the small size. I just reserved one on SkyBox USA
chinga
That sucks you can't listen live. other than that, it's pretty cool.
hgm56
Morons. No reading comprehension. You need to plug it into a home dock to receive channel lineups, but once received, you can listen to those channels anywhere. It has an antennae, what do you think that's for.
chadmd
You can only listen live when the unit is docked, either in the included car dock, or the home dock which costs ~$100. When its not in the dock you either listen to recorded programming or mp3s you loaded.
