I still dont' have Sirius but I borrowed an RV this weekend that had Sirius in it. the station kept breaking up with little breaks of silence. is this normal? anyway to fix this? because it was really annoying. it seemed worse when driving. I thought we were going to get uninterupted digital clear tunes.

I'm going to ask out new Sirius sponsor about it because there's got to be some way to fix it. I don't think I'll be able to listen while driving if it's going to keep going out like that. I'm going to need a mega antennae or something

Me too.

And I have received some really clear uninterupted tunes and more, but not everywhere. When it's on, it's on and strong....it's really just like cell phone reception....there are SO MANY variables that contribute to signal strength and reception that there is NO WAY to build the perfect bug proof receiver for satellite....yet....

When I live in Vegas area we had strong signals all over but where I am now apparently has very few ground repeaters because almost everyone has the same results in their vehicles. Some people have trouble getting it in homes, but like I said, where there is signal, it is tits.....unfortunately I live in a roughly mountainous area now...there's a reason why them thar hills is so back asswards ya know, as I am finding out on a daily basis.....hehe...

My signal is pretty strong except for when I go under bridges which I would assume is normal. Once in a while the signal will drop out of nowhere, but that is pretty uncommon. I have even had a signal from my garage with the door closed.

yeah if i leave my radio on at home and drive away I still get a signal about ten houses down the block. It has its ups and downs with weather, bridges and stuff, but im happy with it. Im sure it will improve over the next few years.

Of course you would, in an urban area. Satellite radio works very similar to ground based radio. In fact it relies primarilly on ground based FM transmitters in urban area because of interference from building, and other structures. Inside each "tuner" are two recievers; one for the satellite feed and another for the ground based feed. Whenever the satellite feed is not available, the unit instantly switches over to pick up the ground based feed.

Some people will experience incredible reception and others will get very sporadic reception. It is all a case of geographics with relationship to ground based repeaters.

The very idea that they call it "satellite" radio is a bit mis-leading.

The only problem I have is the physical connection on the back of my mobile unit needs to be tweaked/turned just right to maintain a positive connection. Otherwise it works 100% great.

:D

How mobile have you gone with it. Traveled more than a few hundred miles away from main source with it?

I do have a problem when I am driving in an area which is covered by trees or an underpass. I have no dropouts when I’m in an open area unless they are caused by fm radio receiving interference from another OTA broadcaster. I’m using a sportster with it’s normally distributed antenna.

i've had sirius since day one when howard announced. the signal will brake here and there but not nearly as often so you have to turn it off.
there are few obsticals that really screw up the signal. The one that seems to be the biggest problem IMO is when there is a dense pop[ulation of trees. if you have trees over the road you are pretty much fu**ed while you are there. Tunnels are also dead spots. Other than that since there is 5 sec delay you have to be out of reach for more than that to get a drop. Install your antena on the roof of the car. Antenas inside really reduce the coverage to a point where it is unlistenable.

Also while you are in a metropolitan areas you are picking up the terestrial repeater so none of those rules apply.

I've gone on road trips from LA to SF and Vegas and all over the place in Socal and would get maybe one drop/trip.

The only other problem i've had is one of the repeaters in LA (silver lake) wher for some reason my tuner goes nuts and doewsn't know if it should [pick up the sat or terestrial) other than that everywhere else i've been we are pretty good.

If you get too many drops have someone check the cables, connector, antena and if all that is good then the tuner

Are you talking about Silverwood Lake that is up by Blue Jay and Lake Arrowhead?

I have not been there since the end of the winter. Have yet to see how my signal is in Big Bear
