I found a thread from siriusbackstage saying Howard 100 and 101 showed up as a streaming option under Entertainment/Talk. I have not verified this shows up for the free pass but it does show up for paying subs. This looks to fix the problem of a lot of people who work in offices.

I realize this should go under 4sirius but I hoped by posting in the general chat it may avoid some duplicate post.

This is 2 weeks oldish though dude. Plus it's only a temporary solution anyways ... when he actually moves then the question will be answered.
Miller
I’m not talking about his channel being streamed under a hidden channel. It actually shows up as a streaming option under Entertainment/Talk. I mean you can see Howard 100 and Howard 101. This is not exactly two weeks old. This just showed up today.
Miller
This is actually a major deal for new subs saying they can’t get a signal in their office or house. The channels actually show up now with captions under them. Check our your Sirius Streamer.

Oh, shit... Miller is right! I've never seen Howard 100 or Howard 101 on the Streamer!

Exactly bro, this is a big deal. I have several users at work wanting to hear Howard but they can’t get a signal inside at work. This solves their problems.
TheBlueprint
HUGE deal!! I've emailed countless times and have gotten general, safe responses. This is the first sign that they're going to actually stream the show.

Thanks for the heads up.
Miller
No problem, you guys are welcome. The links don’t work now but I have to think they wouldn’t be up now if it wouldn’t be an option in January. Besides, they wouldn’t have been doing all this testing under a hidden channel if they weren’t at least siriusly considering it. This is just the first proof we’ve seen. SWEET

They don't seem to stream though.

Sirius NFL Radio is on the streamer, but it only plays a commercial for it, no real live stream.

I wonder if it will be the same for Howard 100.
Miller
No they don't stream now. Howard 101 says check back in January.
Nickd
My mistake man. This is great news ... hope it sticks. Maybe the emails are actually being read?

The biggest concerns for streaming are getting the permission from the shows and security, people stealing the stream. Right now anybody can get the free trial for aslong as they like, but atleast Sirius doesn't let people use free email accounts anymore .. one step in the right direction.

both problems are very fixable.

I hope you're right and I'm wrong, but I'm not ready to celebrate just yet. If you click on one of the news stations like CNN or Fox, you will connect to something, but not the actual news feed. You connect to a 30 second promo and then it goes off.

I hope this isn't the case with Howard 100 and 101 but we'll have to wait and see. If it is just a 30 second promo, I could see it turning more people off than bringing them over.

I'm still going to prepare for the hardware option so I'm ready for all eventualities.

I've also contact SIRIUS about streaming and about a "walkman" device. They replied and said that Howard has COMPLETE control over whether his show will be streamed or not!

Here is SIRIUS' reply:

Dear William,

Thanks for contacting SIRIUS regarding streaming.
We are glad to hear that you are excited about Howard Stern's move to SIRIUS this January.

As we do not want to pressure Howard into making any decisions that he truly does not want, we have allowed Howard complete control of his broadcasts.

For this reason we cannot be certain if Howard will or will not allow his radio show to be broadcast over the online player.

Sincerely,
Dave B

The piracy issue is always going to be there.

As long as there are sites like yousendit which provide free file hosting, there will be a ratio of posting as public service.

What outrages SIRIUS, of course, is that they are asking $20K per ad spot and the streaming thieves will edit out those commercials. And even if they didn't, any iPod can skip over ads (when you drag in your MP3 files).

I think they'll just have to deal with the piracy as a cost-of-doing-business expense. When you're losing more than half of your listener base, you have to please as many people who move to SIRIUS as possible.

My office took away admin rights for everybody so I cannot listen to online streams or download new software from the internet. I can get an fm signal by the window so hopefully my sirius boombox will get a signal.
MrJeff2000
I can also see SIRIUS streaming everything EXCEPT the actual Stern show.

Sort of like giving away the sizzle but making you buy the steak.

Of course, the pirates will deal with that...

Howard would not want that anyway. he wants everyone to pay for it. Just like his E shows on his website

If you check the other talk shows, it's the same thing - no stream. I think it's just a form of advertising - not something we can listen to online.

Sorry but you are incorrect. Some of the other talk shows are streamed.

I'd love to be wrong on this - can you give me a talk show name example?

Got news for you guys, but I think that shit is gonna be a preview channel only...

I don't understand how I am paying for a raido, but I can't stream it on my computer. I bought that stupid Starmate and it has no boombox so I have try to hook up a house hook up on my office.!!

I should have included this when I posted earlier today as I tested it then. Lynn Samuels was streaming this afternoon. Right now its 6:20 ET and The Wiseguy Show is streaming.

I understand a many shows don’t stream but that’s because Sirius doesn’t have the rights. Someone called the Stern show a while back and ask if the new show would stream over the internet and he said yes.

Now he could have misspoke at the time but why would Sirius be streaming his channel now under a hidden station if they don’t plan to do it later? There really is little reason to test the streams if they don’t plan to use it when he goes live.

Why did you buy a unit that doesn’t have a boombox if you knew you would want one?

I have the Sportster and purchased the boombox along with a home and car dock. Looking back I should have saved my money and purchased a second home dock for work and played it through my current fm radio. I could have saved $50. Either way works fine though.

Seeing the Howard channels onine really doesn't mean anything. All the channes show up on the streamer, but the talk ones just play previews. Sirius is not saying whether Howard will stream. I hope he does.
In any case, I plan on connecting my unit (haven't decided which to get yet) to my computer and record Howard's show to MP3 so I can listen at work (a day late, but oh well).
