| I'm looking to pick up a Sirius receiver (probably the cheapest one) for use at work. Has anyone tried to plug one directly into the "line in" jack on a PC? I currently have my FM boombox plugged in and it works great. Wondering if I'll need the "boombox setup" with the receiver or if the receiver will work by itself. Thx. |

cagey,
Yeah, I have my Sirius radio hooked to my PC through the sound card also and it works great. I can't wait till his show starts cause I am going to record it through there so I can listen to it when I get home from work since I can't hear it at work unless he streams the show online which I hope he does.
I am using the Blaupunkt America at home and its not too bad but there's probably better receivers out there. This one looked good at the time but its kinda bulky.
I have another unit in my truck that Ford installed for me.

| What cables did you guys use to hook up your receiver to your pc? We tried hooking up the Sportster Replay with the home/office dock to the line in on the pc and all we get is static. |

Uh oh, wait a minute, that was what I was planning on doing!
It doesn't work??
Plugging it into the speakers isn't the answer because I need to record the show to MP3, so I was going to use a dual-male headphone wire to plug the reciever into the pc's sound card. Is this what you did and it doesn't work?? |

I used a 1/8 male to male cable and I plugged into the back of my satellite receiver and then I plugged it right into the Line-In jack of my sound card. Make sure to un-mute it in your volume controls and then you should hear the satellite through the computer.
I also downloaded and then purchased a program that can record the satellite and basically any sounds on your computer into MP3 files.
You should check it out at http://www.mp3audiorecorder.com/
Let me know if you have any questions and hopefully I can help. There are some good threads on here though because thats how I found everything out to hook up my receiver to my computer.
I can't wait for the show to move to Sirius in a few months. Its going to be great.

WESSTEKK,
Thanks for the reply. So you *don't* need a boombox or whatever - just that little receiver? Great. Yeah I listen at work too and record the show for my 40 minute drive home. Better to be able to pay attention.
I have SIRIUS in my car, but not yet at the office. You don't need a separate activation fee or anything for the second receiver right?
Thx.

| So would you think that this http://www.mp3audiorecorder.com/ would be better than Time Trax? I was gonna get Time Trax but if this works well, i'd rather get this. It would be much cheaper too. |

Let me clarify a bit. I'm pretty sure you will need to buy at least a "home docking kit" because the receiver doesn't come with a power source or antenna.
Also, there is an increase in the monthly fee for a second receiver- I think it's around 6 bucks.
I don't have Sirius yet and I almost just bought the receiver until I found out that it won't work on it's own and needs some kind of docking device (either the boombox, or cheaper basic kit (no speakers on the kit, btw)). I'm still trying to decide which setup to get. |

Thanks for the reply Jigsaw....

So you can't simply find a suitable AC power adpater to plug it in...? The way it looks on the sirius site, you need the receiver itself, and the "home docking kit" which is basically this crap...

.... an AC power adaptor, antenna and "mini-jack to RCA" adapter. (Which I would simply replace with a male-male 1/8 inch jack for my computer.
The reciever itself is $79 (after rebate) w/a car docking included. Next question would be "what's the difference between the car docking kit antenna and the home docking kit antenna?" Would both work indoors in an single story office? Who knows. Home docking kit adds another $35 bucks, but all I really would need is the AC adapter?

Another gouge, but there you have it. I'll have to check w/Sirius.

I'm going to go as "basic" as I can. SIRIUS is already into me for a yearly subscription in my car so I'm trying to keep the home-use bill down.
thanks for the reply.

Yes, I do have 2 receivers. I have one that was installed into my car by the dealer and then I have one at home, the Blaupunkt America unit. I have the home kit which is a docking station for power and also the home antenna and cabling.
I have this unit plugged into my PC via the sound cord and a make 1/8 to 1/8 cable. Then I use a program called MP3 Audio Recorder to record whatever I want onto my PC in an MP3 file.
It is kinda annoying to have to keep buying additional units if you want to hear it throughout the house. I don't think the FM transmitter will work for me because my unit is downstairs and I don't think it'll reach upstairs in my house. But at least for the recording feature it is great and I'm glad it connects to the PC and everything.

| For some damn reason, i have yet to figure out how! Ive brought 2 different things from best buy, one is a Y adapter, with 2 female rca jacks to a single headphone jack, fit perfect! but static like crazy. Then i tried what West said with the 1/8 to 1/8 male and the same thing! Any hints, this is key for me to figure out! |
