This message goes out to all Canadian Stern fans that were looking forward to hearing Howard on Sirius in January 2006, after Sirius Canada’s official launch here in the Great White North in about two weeks.
It seems the president and CEO of Sirius Canada has decided not to include Howard 100/Douche 100 among the list of Sirius channels available to Canadians. No official reason has been given, but today’s Globe and Mail suggests the decision was due to the Sirius Canada’s belief that Howard Stern doesn’t have any fans in Canada.
Part of this misconception comes from the time Howard was airing on Toronto radio, and local listeners decided to catch the show out of Buffalo because it wasn’t as chopped up by Canadian censors.
Let’s prove the president and CEO of Sirius Canada wrong.
I invite all Canadian Howard Stern fans on this board to head over to the following link and sign the petition that will be delivered to Sirius Canada before they go live. There’s still hope and there’s still time:

And if you don’t think these petitions work, a petition I organized a few weeks back helped make up both the Comedy Network and CTV’s mind about bringing The Colbert Report to Canada. It starts airing this Monday.
So let’s get organized, and let’s tell Sirius Canada that we’ll only subscribe if they include Howard Stern. |

Canada is very liberal, especially in office in the eastern provinces. (namely Ontario)
It's not just the religious right who want censorship, believe it or not, but liberals can be just as easily offended.

Canada has the same issues with race as America does, don't kid yourselves. I doubt there are any difference in laws between what amount of bigotry is "allowed".

Here it is folks, the sad truth. The CRTC will not tolerate ANY talk about women when they are "objectified". They won't accept ANY racist comments even if it is to point out biggotry in the world and finally they really have a bug up their ass about saying ANYTHING negative about mentally ill people. Howard once said he would be pissed if a mental health halfway house opened near his home because it would lower the property value. Q107 was fined for this and within 6 months he was off the air here in Toronto.
Sorry people but even if Sirius allows Howard on the air in Canada it won't be on channel 100 and it will be chopped to bits just like the good ole Q107 days.
The killer is that hard core porn can air on rabbit ears here, the public airwaves. |

I would urge everyone to sign this petition, though for me it really makes no difference whether I send my subscription dollars south of the border or spend them here at home.
Howard Stern is the ONLY reason I would pay for radio. Should Sirius Canada fail to carry the Howard Stern channels, you can rest assured that I and thousands of others will resort to so-called "gray market" US subscriptions. I have already made contingency plans to implement this option should you fail to deliver what may prove to be the biggest show in satellite radio history. |

it's softcore and it starts at like 1am on CITYTV, but yes the CRTC rules are whacked.
and there's no real first amendment deal up here as far as I know so the CRTC doesn't have to be all that tricky to get around such things. |

The CRTC will allow hard core porn to air but stations seldom do. I'm taking Canadian broadcasting 101 in college right now and I was suprised to hear this fact from my prof.
I did see once on CBC an "educational" show where they showed this woman in an extreme close-up finger banging herself. |

I've had offers of “assistance” from a few members of this board already.
In your case, I would think your best option might be to get in touch with an SFN member in Niagara Falls or Buffalo, give them the money for the subscription and the radio it self and either have them bring it across the border or you pick it up yourself. |

| I heard today that the CRTC is regulating satellite radio just like regular radio. You aren't even allowed to swear! Oddly enough, right after I got this news, I happened to catch a sketch on a rerun of the (very Canadian) "Kids in the Hall" show, where they were singing a song about "faggots". I cannot for the life of me figure out the rules in this friggin' country. |

Show case can get away with anything aslong as they put the "M" rating on, but they won't allow Sirius uncensored?
Kids have easier access to Showcase than they ever would to SIRIUS. |

you can just give them any us address. they just bill your credit card automatically each month. |

| This is just my opinion but I don’t think you will get much support on this from Sirius. Sirius only gets 20% of the revenue from Sirius Canada. I have a feeling Sirius wouldn’t mind if Canadian Stern fans subscribed via grey market because they receive more money that way. |

yeah it should work i would think. how far are you from the us border? you could just drive down and buy one from a store. if it doesnt work than just return it. |

About 4 hr to upstate NY or 4 hrs to Niagara Falls dependin on which way I travel .
Do you know if I could buy at a circiut city or some place and pay for a year up front right there or is it a call and activate thing ?
I should be able to buy it and call right away from parking lot and return if no go ?
I would make the 8 hr trip if I thought it would work but I wouldn't want to do it twice to return it thats for sure |

yeah you can just hook it up yourself in the parking lot. you give them your cc and it will start working within a few minutes so you wouldnt have to make 2 trips incase they dont take your credit card. |

They are very elitist with the intellectual snobery bullshit which is just as bad, one verbal bitch slap from Howard and they are on the phone like babies complaining to the CRTC.
I do agree though that I think Howard's yanking from Q107 had something to do with money. The local radio is either unlistenable shitheads and fake beeyotches or JACKFM crap so they were totally being annihilated by Howard's type of radio. I think behind the scenes radio biz folks were trying to push him out.
The local radio is terrified of Satrad because they are so shit at what they do, I think Sirius Canada might know the lay of the land and realize they can't do Howard, too much insider liberal bullshit and local radio biz folks out to try and knock them off. |

I would think the only thing you need to do in Canada is activate via one of the America Sirius activation phone numbers. Also make sure your receiver has a US serial number. Perhaps you can buy one of those receivers over the internet. Certainly the satellite rebroadcasts the same content everywhere. The one got- you, could be that they won't rebroadcast those channels terresterially repeaters where the signal is not good.
It is my *opinion* that the signal is actually one fat digital stream, that gets demultiplexed as needed based on which "channel" is selected. A channel becomes some uniquely identified set of packets that are earmarked for a particular channel from the fat stream. |

| I'm way up North in Canada and I was able to activate, about 500 miles north of Winnipeg. I didn't even have to cross the border to get it. Try any Trucking Companies in your area that sell Parts, accessories steros, stuff like that. I gave Sirius an actual address but damned if I know who lives there. The whole thing took a few minutes and it is sweet. |

This is especially why this fight is so important. I have no problems with the CRTC legislating public airwaves, but satellite is a pay service, much like The Movie Network here, pay-per-view, the Internet, and any books or magazines you buy at a store.
If the CRTC can force a satellite radio station to not air a particular subject or topic or personality, my concern is what's next? Will certain websites be banned sometime in the future even though you pay $30 a month for highspeed Internet, will the Sopranos or any major Hollywood picture be chopped to bits because people swear? It's a terrible trend and one that we all should fight for right now. |

I believe The Osbournes was on CTV at 9:00 pm on Fridays, uncensored. You don't even need to pay for cable to get this channel. It is free for anybody in Canada to receive. They have no problem with swearing or sex talk here. They don't like the racial stuff.
Which is kinda funny considering Don Cherry, a famous person here in Canada is a bigot. He appears on television every Saturday Night on Hockey NIght in Canada on the public funded CBC. Spewing racial remarks against Europeans. Of course I love watching it but it is very hypocritical. |

I only wish that was true. He said that the French and European players are usually the ones that wear the half visor, for that "cutting edge" remark they wanted to fire him. If he ever said one truly racial remark he would be fired on the spot, they are so waiting for that moment. It is only his numbers and the fans going balistic like they did when they tried to let go of Ron McClean, Cherry's partner, that prevents him from being canned. Cherry's remarks are actually pretty tame. |

Anyone try to activate a US sirius radio in Canada yet?
I got mine last year for Christmas, and have been waiting till the move to activate it.
If you need a US receiver just get it from e-bay.
The Canadian gov't is unreal. Hardcore porn all over our pay-per view, Sopranos uncut, unedited movies BUT no Stern on PAY radio because of racial comments!! give me a break. F-Sirius Canada.
Can't wait till January. |
