First, I have to say this will be for my OWN use. This will not be shared with anyone, as I know that would be a blatant disregard for the Sirius copyright regulations, blah blah blah.
Since Sirius can't figure out how to make a portable device...like XM that has like 3 different ones...I am going to hookup my Sirius to my computer and record the show every morning via line-in. Originally I was just going to listen to the recording on my MP3 player a day late, but I had a better idea: what I want to do is make that file available to stream over the web so I can listen from work or anywhere. Ideally, I want to be able to listen to the show from the beginning while the file is still being appended to. Not sure that's do-able. I guess this would be like an "on demand" type thing as opposed to "live", i.e. like a home-brewed Tivo, but for audio available over the Internet.
I would also love to be able to save like a week's worth of shows at a time, which would constantly be over-written while maintaining 5 shows...you get the idea. It would just need a really simple web page to just click on the show and real media (or what ever format seems best) would start playing the show from the beginning.
I have some basic web knowledge, but I'm not exactly sure how to go about setting this up. I guess I need to figure out the best software to use for this job: something to capture, convert, and stream the show, and a small webserver to provide the content. Would this work? http://www.realnetworks.com/product...comparison.html The free version should do what we need it to do. I would also like to password protect the site for security. We could set it up to stream only once at a time to ensure Sirius subscribers will only use it for their own use.
Does anyone else like the idea? Anyone a programmer?? Anyone have the ability to help me create such a program??
added: looks like a combo of Real Media Helix Server - Basic and Real Media Producer - basic may be just the thing we need!! and they're both free!
