Good job infinity. You just made Stern even stronger. Prepare to die.
bababooey2uall
Well, if Howard is getting suspended with pay, then he is certainly happy about it. There's no downside really...he gets a day off, he gets free publicity for Sirius, he gets paid....just perfect. He'd be happy if they suspended him without pay for the rest of the year.

How come only the radio websites are saying it but none of the big news sites, such as CNN, MSNBC, or FOX News?

Because...nobody cares. Howard is done at terrestrial radio soon anyway.

NYC tv stations and the NYC papers will pick up on the story.

The only upside is that Infinity is giving Howard one of the greatest endorsements for Sirius Satellite radio by suspending him. This will be all over the news. What a great commercial for Sirius, Free Press....Let David Lee Roth fill in tommorow !!!!!!

 :funny: That's great! It reminds me of the great movie "Broadcast News." The Station Director calls everyone from the TV News dept in, one by one, to fire them. When one of the beloved News producers gets his turn, the SD tells him to let him know if there's anything he can do for him. The beloved producer's response? "I sure hope you'll die soon." Bwahahaha!

Siriusly, this ONLY makes Howard stronger! Congrats, Howard and Crew, for gaining a FULL H100 work day tomorrow.

FUCK YOU Joel, Tom, Infinity, Viacom, Fear Channel, XM, the FCC, religious wackos, and conventional radio!
HOWARD WINS! WE WIN!!!

Boots, please tell me you recorded that call.
Tom from T.O.
I am going to guess that Howard's emotional and super effective goodbye to Las Vegas is what set them off. I think they did not expect Howard to get personal and admit to his fans how much he loves them and that they feel like family....they know that most fans will believe Howard because he says what he feels and this would have scared them, they are probably now shitting bricks about his final goodbye show and I am guessing they are deciding on whether or not to cut him off completely...it will depend on the reaction to tomorrow, especially from the advertisers, if they can air Best ofs and the advertsiers don't revolt, I predict Howard won't be allowed back.
piercer411
Holy shit.. I just get back from class to see I've missed all this maddness. Fuck Infinity. I don't want him gone though, I couldn't stand best of for the next month and a half. Especially when they're bleeping the fucking word 'blonde'!!!

What if we call the sponsors and threaten to bring our business elsewhere if Joel continues this idiocy. This is a sure way to spank Joel....f'n idiot. I already wrote BCN in Boston to let them know I WILL NOT listen, even if there is a "Best of"and will call some advertisers to express my disappointment with this childish behavior. When you hit the pockets of the sponsors, some noise will be made in the management. Mazybe Joel will get it. Let's all make some calls tomorrow.

Howard Stern taken off the air after promoting move to Sirius

By AMY WESTFELDT
Associated Press Writer

November 7, 2005, 7:09 PM EST

NEW YORK -- Shock jock Howard Stern was suspended Monday from his syndicated show for a day after heavily promoting his move to satellite radio.

Stern spokesman Matt Traub confirmed the suspension from the syndicated show in more than 20 Infinity Broadcasting Corp. markets. It was first reported on the Howard 100 channel carried by Sirius Satellite Radio Inc., where Stern is moving his show next year.

"Howard will not be on the air tomorrow. We expect him back on Wednesday," said Infinity spokeswoman Karen Mateo. Mateo wouldn't call Stern's absence a suspension and declined to comment further. Listeners will hear a compilation of Stern's best shows on Tuesday, she said.

Stern announced his departure last year to Sirius, where he received a $500 million contract to begin in January 2006. Stern boasted an audience of about 12 million and revenues of about $100 million from his morning FM show. His last live radio show for Infinity is set for Dec. 16.

Stern's Howard 100 channel on Sirius said that Stern was suspended for talking too much about his impending move to satellite. Tom Chiusano, general manager of WXRK-FM in New York, where Stern broadcasts his show, announced the suspension as the Stern show was ending Monday morning, the Howard 100 channel reported.

"This is an act of desperation by men who are losing their once-in-a-lifetime franchise," Traub said Monday.

It is not the first suspension for the shock jock. Stern said he was pulled off four Citadel Broadcasting Corp.-run radio stations in January for devoting too much time to his switch to Sirius Satellite Radio.

Last year, Clear Channel announced it was pulling Stern's syndicated show off a half-dozen of its stations because of concerns about possible government fines for indecency. Its announcement came after Clear Channel reached a $1.75 million settlement with the Federal Communications Commission over complaints against Stern and other radio personalities.

Sirius spokesman Patrick Reilly declined comment Monday on the suspension.

Stern suspended after promoting Sirius move
08:05 PM CST on Monday, November 7, 2005
Associated Press
NEW YORK – Howard Stern got a one-day suspension Monday after heavily promoting his move to satellite radio.
“We expect him back on Wednesday,” said Karen Mateo, a spokeswoman for Infinity Broadcasting, which carries Stern's syndicated show in more than 20 markets.
She wouldn't call Stern's absence a suspension and declined to comment further. Listeners will hear a compilation of Stern's best shows on Tuesday, she said.
But Stern's spokesman Matt Traub confirmed the shock jock had been suspended, adding: “This is an act of desperation by men who are losing their once-in-a-lifetime franchise.” The action was first reported on the Howard 100 channel carried by Sirius Satellite Radio, where Stern is moving his show next year. Stern announced his departure last year to Sirius, where he received a $500 million contract to begin in January 2006. Stern boasts an audience of about 12 million and revenues of about $100 million from his morning radio show. His last live radio show for Infinity is scheduled for Dec. 16.
Sirius spokesman Patrick Reilly declined to comment Monday.

"we can't have all this free pub for Sirius, you are off the air Tuesday"

Hear about it on CNN, New York Post, NBC, Google News, etc etc etc etc.

What dumb fucks!

stunning. didn't get to see this till just now.....

christ, don't these guys see that every reaction they have had to howard since the announcement has made it so incredibly clear that they see him as a phenomenon that they know they have no hope of replacing.....

they are making him so much bigger everytime they pull something like this.

I wonder if they will put some sort of gag order on Stern for talking about the suspension or Sirius on Wednesday?
tiMMyTHEcat
how can they impose a gag order? all they can do is threaten howard with more suspensions, which we all know he is gonna talk about anyway.the only thing infinity can do(which they wont) is just fire him or take him off the air indefinitely. if they do either, expect howard on letterman immediately(letterman will give him the whole show) and he'll bury these fucks. i almost want to see that, except we'd be robbed of howard till jan.

That's the same thing I was thinking! They own the tapes, so they can play them against Howard's wishes if they want to.

Oh man, Wednesday's show is going to be TENSION FILLED I tell ya. The article I read said that Howard got into an "altercation" with Tom.
creepychristy
Sorry but I am not reading 20 pages to see this but im sure it has been brought up.

What if they don't bring him back? they may take the day to decide if they want him on for the rest of the year or if they are just sick of dealing with him and blow him out early.

It seems like if there were going to take that option, they would have done it a long time ago. They obviously wanted to wring out the last of his advertising revenue, and these final weeks are apparantly at record-high rates.

By this one day suspension, I guess they think they're sending a message while not giving up too much of that revenue. Of course, one day doesn't do anything to actually harm Howard, it just fires him up more, pisses off the fans and brings that much extra press to Howard's move.

Brilliant move, Hollander! You got some Sirius stock under the table? :D
DonaldFromDetro
I think there is some legal manuvering behind this move by Infinity... I think they are keeping themselves positioned should there be any litigation in the future... and, this, somehow, could be helpful to Infinity.
