Am I the first on SFN?

Haven't even cracked the box open yet. Had to post first. :D
LeeHarveyIdiot
But doesn't it suck that you can't listen to live music or live Howard? How big is it? Can it fit snug on your arm to work out or jog?

So the big questionj is....IS IT WORTH THE $$?

It's pretty damn small, about the size of an iPod mini but twice as thick
Jack Shit
There's a fuck of a lot of shit in the box. FUCK. I don't want to read the instructions.

If I can record the show and listen anytime, anywhere, then yes, it's worth it. :)

Hmmm... a USB cable... wonder if I can listen to the files in iTunes?

That thing looks sweet, what does it do exactly besides pick up Sirius

Some peeps are jealous of my $6K ghey couch and Sirius S50-having lifestyle. :hw:

But if you really want to know, you can record Sirius for later playback; basically, you can use it as an MP3 player.

It can also play mp3s.

how big is the drive?

Can you hook it up to your car stereo and home stereo?

Do you have to have 2 subscriptions if you want a Sirius in each car and in your home?

No drive. It's got 1 gig of flash, i.e., not enough. It comes with car mount and an optional home dock. I'm getting the home dock but it's still on backorder.

Pros: Small, cool looking, very nice color screen, lots of accessories, easily transportable. :)

Cons: Expensive, small memory capacity. :(

If you have more than one radio, I think you get the second subscription for half price or something like that. But with this unit I think you've got everything you need.

They say it stores 50 hours of Sirius. It will be a hundred bux in a couple months.
Bababong
Congratulations man.I'm envious.

How long ago did you order it.I heard it's impossible to get one unless you've been on a waiting list for awhile.

Saving each Show will be as easy as it gets with that jewel.

I ordered it from Crutchfield on 11/1. That's when it was announced they'd be hitting the shelves on 11/11, which they missed by 3 weeks. I hear some people ordered 'em like 6 months ago.

Right, it has to be docked, but hey, the material world is by nature imperfect.

Below are some photos of the Sirius S50. The S50 can record 50 hours and has voice-assisted navigation, i.e. a female voice announces the channels as you change them(you can turn this feature off). The S50 must be docked in the home or car craddle before it can pick up the Sirius "live" signal. The advantage of not being "live" portable is that you don't have to worry about losing reception. All "live" portables have this problem due to the inherent limits of satellite signals direct-line-of-sight requirement, i.e. anything can block the Sirius or XM satellite signal, a tree, your body, tunnels, a wall, a ceiling, etc. You don't have to worry about this with the S50. Here are the pictures:

S50 connected to laptop to transfer MP3s from PC to S50. You cannot transfer from S50 to PC. The RIAA regulations won't allow it:

can you download the saved files/ shows to a computer? im just lookin for something that i can record the show with and bring to work to listen to it, right now ive been recording all of the fm shows but i have found anything for sirius yet
blue2noise
I think the 50 is a ripoff if you ask me. I went with the Sportster replay because...

1. The 50 has no live listening capapbility
2. I have no idea when the show will be replayed, so i may not be able to record and bring to work.
3. I couldnt see the extra money justifying what the newsgroups and an iPod can already get me.

If it comes down $100 bucks or so, then maybe we have a dilema.
Dead Messiah
My S50 is arriving Thursday, I can't wait.
Dead Messiah
The down & ups of the S50 (out of the box):

-No home kit until almost the end of the year so you have to buy an 'AC-to-DC Portable Power Supply' like THIS ONE to use the S50's car dock in your house.
-Can't tell it to record a certain music channel for a certain time frame, you have to tell the S50 your 3 favorite channels and it will record content from those 3 channels randomly, like TiVo's suggestions. This might have been done because of threats by RIAA. It still fills your S50 with content from your 3 favorite channels so it works out nicely.
-Can schedule it to record multiple (up to 20) two hour blocks of non-music programming.
-PC software & S50 firmware are both upgradeable
-No alarm clock feature, but it will probably be included in a firmware update
-Can't listen to live SIRIUS on the go, the unit must be plugged into a dock to listen live. This was done because of XM's live portable device has such a high return rate because people think it's gonna work like a FM walkman and it's not unless you live in a city with repeaters, even then it's iffy at best. So SIRIUS decided to go with a TiVo-like approach and have people tell it to record shows they want to hear and have it record music for them and have the ability to transfer MP3s to the unit.
-A dream 'up' is for someone/group to get into the firmware and make it so you can schedule music recordings, like I said this feature is thought to have been locked out of the S50 at the last minute because of threats by RIAA. Might take a while but look at the PSP, it took a while but it's been hacked so people can load/play games off of memory sticks, so you never know...

I really think the S50 is the way to go, even though you can't listen to Howard live if you take it to work, you can do something like this:
-Listen to recorded music/MP3s/other Howard programming on Monday at work
-Monday night record Howard's repeat airing of the show & Howard 100 News to listen to on Tuesday at work
-Tuesday night record for Wednesday
-Wednesday night record for Thursday
-Thursday night record for Friday
-There is no Howard on Friday so over the weekend record a ton of music/other Howard content for Monday.

The S50 is a piece of trash. I'm especially against this item because I was especially...in favor of this item. But I did a little research (cos I usually do before I spend that much) and found it was full of contradictions.

First, you can only use 25 out of the 50 hours of space for your own files...which turns out to be only 17 hrs because of file type/size.

Second, it comes with only a car docking kit...which makes no sense. In other words, you can only record when you are in your car, if you have one. So you're recording pretty much what you are listening to and for however long you are driving. So you get to re-listen to the show...lame.

Third, you have to dish out another $100 to get a home kit...on top of the already-big price tag.

And, no, you can't upload your S50 content onto your computer because of copyright laws or something.

In all, you can do very little for $300-$400. Might as well dish out another $40 to get an ipod that plays movies and has a LOT more memory.

So enjoy
