Here in Vegas, I have only been able to get a satellite signal of 30-60% until this morning. I have gotten 100% all day (still get 0% for terrestrial)! Anyone know if they have tweaked the satellites this week? I have not moved my receiver in the past two weeks.

God I hope so.

I signed up last Friday, and I have to say, the sound quality is horrible, even running directly into my head unit, not via FM trans.

If it doesn't improve, I don't think I'll stay past Stern's first month.

I'm lucky if I can get one good hour without any interruption. I will tough it out but this thing has to improve. They're going to make Howard look bad if this keeps up.
MetalliChris
I'm just crossing my fingers, I guess. But I have a really good feeling that I'll be getting good signals...
vegas_booey
Wow...that sucks for you guys. I had to do an enormous amount of tweaking and positioning to get it to come in really strong. I ended up angling it around 45 degrees and pointing it in the direction that was suggested in the manual (NE for me).

It must be just a glitch with you. When Im driving in my car I pick up 100% Sat and Ter, but when I have it at my place I only get Ter signal
Kablemodem
I tried my Sporster Replay in the office for the first time today. I get 3 bars but it's 100% terrestrial and 0% satellite. I guess the repeaters do work.
Hubcap626
Every now and again i need to adjust my antenna inside my house. Usually tho I will have 2 bars and its very rare if i have 3 bars for more then 30 minutes.
BLUEPONY
ANYONE NEAR LEXINGTON KY THAT CAN TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT THE SIGNAL HERE.
royalflush1973
I'm in Sacramento and the signal where I'm at in my home is real weak. I have to rig something up high to get a little signal but it will die if I move from one area on the room to another. It fucking sucks right now. Missed Jeff The Drunk and The Shrink.
stivhi
The signal here in Jersey STILL SUCKS!!!!!!!
bige
Damn I must be lucky here in Ohio, the only time I dont get a signal is when I'm under a bridge or pull my truck into a building.

Morristown, NJ Area Signal Issues - Sportster with Car and Home kit

Car - no problems except near Newark Airport, then the reception gets fuzzy, must be the radar.

Home - Had trouble at first with losing the signal, no problems now 1-3 bars
Cyber Bishop
Down here in New Orleans I get 100% while driving and while using the boombox inside my work's building..
Just lucky I guess.... :)
NJARTIEFAN
I just got my Sportster yesterday and the signal comes and goes
paavo_nurmi
I have no problems in my car, but at home I had to put the antenna on my roof, remember in some places magnetic heading and true heading can vary alot, almost 20 degrees where I live ( Seattle ), so what is east on a compass is not true east.
DamianBloodstar
I use mine at work (drive truck in Michigan) and have GREAT reception except when I go into overhead bays, and sometimes multiple overpasses (like four seprate overpass lanes right next to each other) I have the home kit coming (it's in route) after I get it up and running I'll let you know how that works.
JohnNapolitano
I was going to order mine either Sunday or Monday, but now you guys are making me nervous.
nikibs
am sorry to day that but most guys that post that the signal is weak are idiots.

1. The signal level is almost the same anywhere in the continental US. think of a flushlight beaming into the wall - light being distributed pretty even. so stop with that coverage in south jersey is nice but north jersey sucks.
2. indoor coverage is non existant unless you happen to live in a repeater area. if you want coverage at home get the fucking antena 5 ft away from your house (but don't put it under the tree you morons) or on the roof. you can buy an extention cable from any outle that covers sirius.

3. car coverage is good unless: 1. you are yoo lazy to put the antena on the roof. 2) you have a faulty cable somewhere (plug'n'plays seem to somethime not fit very well, try to plug-unplug it). 3) the obvious - you are in a tunnel, in a traffic jam under an overpass 4)under very dense trees, parked next to trees

ok, stop the madness. understand that even though the signal is very strong it is very fragile, even a thin sheet of material can kill the signal 100%. Also grasp that when in a car you need full 360% unobstructed view to the sky, putting the antena inside will result in brakeouts)
Stea1th
Coverage for me at home is like 75%

If i drive into the city it's 100% for both
iam72hrstv
Las Vegas has repeaters in S Las Vegas Blvd, E Flamingo, and E Sahara. I get reception under bridges and covered parking
Slomo Liddy
i got an audiovoxsir-pnp3 with boombox and the thing kicks ass, sounds great and the signal is crystal clear. $150 TOTAL WITH REBATE AND $50 off one year subscription.
TheBlueprint
My signal is really weak and the fucking radio breaks up in gaps every 3 minutes or so. It's annoying as hell. It might be my fault though. The antenna is on the dash.

That's the problem. Put it on the roof using the magnetic back and your reception will improve dramatically. You're probably in an area with few, if any, ground repeaters so your antenna needs to have a 360 degree visibility of the skies. The only way to achieve this is on the roof. Good luck.
danimal1070
guess don't have my sporster replay in car yet, but does anybody know if Akron ohio has any repeaters and how to find out how many a city has or if they will be getting more?? At work sometimes it can work ok for an hr. or 2 with just one bar with the boombox but a lot of times it doesn't work so hot as well.. guess have it pointed a window but does anybody know if they also will sell wireless antennas?? That might be a good idea for them, and to increase repeater coverage. If anybody knows about NE OHIO coverage and the other Q's I have asked please help me out and thanks..

right now i use a walkman to listen to howard in the morning (at work) and i can barely get a good FM reception/signal...

if i get the sirius walkman version, will it be just as bad as the FM signal right now or worse?

thanks for any info, appreciate it.
spotszilla
if you live in Las Vegas check your radio settings, you'll notice it shows sat and terr signals. There's a ground repeater in vegas.

U know what man, I used to be the crowd that said "shut up who cares"

Then i put my PDA loaded with highquality mp3's in my car.........and I cant BELIEVE how horrible XM and sirius sound........

Im gonna keep it cuz of howard, but god damn the sound quality BLOWS
gribnack
For those of you with bad signals......have you tried all the fm stations to see which one your reciever plays best thru? I know for my starmate there are some stations that make the quality horrible and others that make it great.
Bendover Bob
Signal seems to be a little better here in New Jersey lately. Or I am just getting used to the cut outs. I really do think it has improved. Hopefully it will only get better.

I know I have no problem at home, even with it in the window sill...guess I finally got it in the right spot. The only time I have trouble is at work my signal comes and goes..too many trees around my office.

Downton DC
Ter only 3-7 bars

When I set up my Starmate replay car unit inside (no home dock available at the time) I put it near my DirecfTV receiver box, not near any window. To my surprise, the signal came in loud and clear!! The FM transmitter went to my nearby stereo receiver, and later I discovered that it was able to be picked up on any radio in the house, which is just what I wanted. All I can figure is that the satellite TV dish on my house was able to pick up the Sirius signal along with the TV signal. It seems to have made it a super-antenna somehow! At work I put the antenna on the windowsill (south, fortunately) stuck to a metal stapler with the car docking station just set onto my desk. It transmits into any radio I bring in with an antenna, and the chick next to me can get it too. However, a friend on the floor below was not able to get the signal, so the regular FM transmitter seems to be just strong enough to transmit to line-of-sight by itself. I am no engineer or techie, but it seems the satellite dish for TV really helps the signal in my house.

What's the difference between satellite and ter. signals? I get lots of satellite bars but no ter. bars.

That's normal. Terrestrial is only if there are repeaters around you.

I'm in Vegas too and only had my Replay (from costco) since this past Saturday. Reception is good although I primarily get a Terresterial signal -> usually around 30-75%. At the office (in Henderson) I'm about 30 feet away from a window and get a good signal (30-75%) once I move the antenna around a bit.
BikerTrash2004
My little Starmate is working great here in NJ. I only lose signal if I am stopped under a bridge. Other than that the sound is really good. I see somebody else said it sucks in Joisey but I haven't experienced that at all. I drive from Toms River all the way up to Wayne each day and it never misses a beat.
