there are lots of bugs with it, but regardless it is far and away the best Sirius unit offered today. yeah, it could be alot better, but its still the best receiver they offer.

basically, just read the sirius backstage forums there are tons of threads and a FAQ about this unit.

I have it and I love it. If you're OK with the fact that it can only receive "live" Sirius radio while in the car or home/office docking station, then you'll love it. If the price is within your budget, get it, you won't regret it. It's got too many features to list them all, but once you figure out the ins and out you'll wonder how you've lived without it.

My favorite feature is the "Love" button, when you hear a song or talk-show you like, you press this button and it will record it and catalog the song/show. Sweet! I've got over 600 songs already on it. If you paid 99 cents to download each song from I-Tune, you'd be broke. And once you're tired of hearing the same song(we all reach this point eventually), you can just delete it and not worry that it cost you 99 cents to download it, only the $13/month. This is ultimately the real power of this device, you get all the songs you want(up to 50 hours worth), and when you hear a new song you like, you press the Love button, record it, file it.

If you reach the 50 hour limit, you can either manually tell it which songs to delete, or it will automatically delete a song you never listen to, to make room for the new song.

As mentioned above, it's got a few glitches/bugs, but Sirius is already working on a fix. They're supposed to release a firmware update within a few weeks. The PC software that comes with the S50 allows you to update the receiver's firmware automatically when you log on to Sirius, giving you the latest bug fixes, and feature updates via a PC internet connection. This is another nice feature, it's upgradable. They clearly have a long-term vision for this device. All I can say is, if you can afford it, buy it. It's really, really nice!! Beats IPod any day.

Also, aren't they suppossed to come out with a home docking kit some time soon?
Dead Messiah
The home dock is out at certain Circuit City stores/online store, it will pop up at other retail/online stores soon.

I have had the S50 for 2 weeks. Yes it has bugs. But it is awesome.

Visit www.siriusbackstage.com forum. That's where you will find out everything you want to know about S50

I just bought the s50 and so far I'm impressed. I rigged the car dock to work in my house and it works very well. While the cost is way too high - especially considering I have to shell out another hundo if I want the home dock, it is worth it. Go get it - you won't be sorry.

so how do we get the songs off of it onto our computers :) If I could do that then this would be worth it.

Would this thing do that?

I spotted it in a newspaper ad today. It says you can take audio from any source and convert it to MP3 or WMA formats.

The only way to get songs off the S50 onto your computer is via the headphone jack output, to your PC soundcard input, then use software to record and output in MP3 format. Of course, you're recording an analog signal, but that's true with any satellite receiver. None of the PNPs have a digital output. Only the non-PnP home units (like this one: http://www.sirius.com/servlet/Conte...d=1115038973625) have digital optical ouputs. With this type of receiver, if your soundcard has digital-optical inputs, you could keep it all digital, then record to MP3 format via your PC.

Regarding the s50 - does anyone know why we can't record a block of time on the music channels? Is that a Sirius thing?
Franky Pants
I can't say why they did it but there is discussion over at sirius backstage that this restriction might be lifted in a future firmware update.

So the s50 isn't even portable?

It's portable, just not "live" portable. It receives live radio when it's in the car or home docking station. Then it records your 3 favorite channels so when you're on-the-go you can take it with you and listen. It's very small, lightweight, and portable. But you can only listen to pre-recorded music and talk shows while in portable mode. Good luck and enjoy.

You won't know this until you try it. That's the only way to know. You can always return the receiver if it doesn't work at your location and get a full refund.

The latest firmware update for the S50 now allows you to record a block of time on the music channels.
