I was just listening to Howard and Robin talking about Ipod, and I can't understand why everyone is paying $300 for this shit. I have a $99 mini disk and it serves my purposes. I can get the whole 5 hour Howard show on on disk.

Even when I listen to music I can put 5 1/2 hours on one disk. How often do you need that? Maybe on vacation.

I can just change disks and bam... another 5 1/2 hours.

I can record all the Sirius stuff and load it within 5 to 7 minutes.

I have no need to see video on a 2 inch screen. I owned a mini tv in 1985. Those never seemed to take off.

How could I possible be the man when it is now oh so obvious that you are.

i did the disk thing for a while, then i switched to a 5 gb mp3 player and i will never go back...its one of the most amazing things i have ever owned

Seriously, I have like 6gigs of stern material (and growing) on my 5g ipod (I've owned 3 other ipods btw way back when no one around me had one), plus family guys (all the seasons) + stewie's untold story, 3 RATM concert dvds, plus 2000+ songs. I travel so the vids are good for inflight bordem. So yeah, bitch please.

ipod>mini disc.

My shits backed up btw, and it's a mac so it's much less fussy than a pc.

I can put it on the car radio. I usually keep loaded what I want to hear. I'm never boared with it and I've had it for couple of years.

My point is that when the drive crashes and you loose everything. Your gonna be pissed! This is a disc and you still have most of your shit.

All the people I talk to reily on the pod and have no back up!

The back up is on the PC.

And the original hard copies, unless you are stupid enough to purchase digital.

You can't tell me you never lost a computer hard drive. I've lost like 17 of them over the years. The people I talk to totally depend on the pod. One dude i know just lost his whole collection because he dropped his pod.

I had mixed emotions for him on that one.

S50 > IPod

I have over 400 gigs of music, there isn't an Ipod/Portable MP3 player on the market that can hold my whole collection right now. If I have to pick and choose what songs to load up, then it doesn't really matter if I have 512 mb or 10 gig of storage. I'd rather have a Sirius radio that doubles as an MP3 player and cut down on one less gaget I need to carry around.

besides the odds that hard drive and an ipod crash at the exact same time??id say they're comparble to the odds that you make a clever post in the next year

Hey man I have a starmate and I record everything I want to listen to. I got used to it over the years with the vcr so I can cut through the breaks.

I am old enopugh to have most of my "collection" on vinyl.

The original hard copy back-up.
ThePaul
So you hook your Starmate up to your computer and record MP3? Wouldn't you save a step by getting the S50 and cutting the computer out of the loop?
Dr. Fong
Because it's just easier to carry around your whole collection than wishing you had a song or carrying around a dozen discs all the time.
ThePaul
Carry around your whole collection? What size Ipod do you have?
Booey's teeth
I guess a lot of you have rich parents. I'm just pieceing the old and new together here. I works for me.

Just thought I'd get a few ideas for fellow SFN'ers. No insults needed umong us in this thread.

I don't have an Ipod, but I do have a 40GB player. I don't use it all. Only about 30GB at the most.

And Booey's teeth, my parents have nothing to do with it. I work hard and I listen to my Mp3 player just about all day long so spending $300 on something that I use all the time isn't much.

Someone did make a car unit that played records, I think it just played 45s. Didn't go over too well as you can imagine.

Dude I work with computers all day - in a worldwide bank.........If you've had 17 hard drives crash in your LIFETIME, YOU Are doing something to cause it. Also - Ipods don't have a "DRIVE" so to say.

Why don't we all have mini disks? Because 5 hours worth of anything isnt shit anymore. Also, mini discs scratch and crap.

Get with the times. Minidisks didn't get big for a reason. THEY ARE LAME

Actually, only the Shuffles and the iPod Nanos are flash-based players, all the others use tiny Toshiba hard drives.
