I want to get this for christmas. I need a unti I can listen to at my house when i wake up then take with me to the gym (most important) and then be able to listen in the car. I'm nto understanding this not being live when portable talk. Can I go to the gym and listen to Stern live???
Sorry if this has been beaten to death.. |

| No unlike XM units the S50 does not have the ability to be heard live when not docked in either car/home docks. You can record the stern show and listen to it not live. Not really a true portable unit |

| ahh.. so what can i do to listen to it at the gym? |

The S50 will apparently be fully portable this coming spring.
The S50 currently records the show while in the home or car docks and save it to a drive then you can listen to it when it's not connected to the port as an MP3. |

The Xact XTR1 and Power Pod (battery and antenna unit) is the only "live" portable Sirius radio.

| Can you take the S50 out of the cradle and listen to part of a broadcast and then put it back in and upload the rest of the show? I live in the Southwest and want to listen to part of the show while working out and then return home to listen to the rest (including what I was missing while out at the gym)? |

Nope, you can't do that. The shows are running "live" so they're not "on-demand". What you could do with the S50 is record the show when it gets repeated in the afternoon for the West Coast audience. Then you can take the S50 out of the craddle with you to work out and listen to the entire show the next morning or whenever, i.e. you can always schedule your work-out routine around the show recording. Hope this helps. |

Use it for 48 hours, and you'll change your mind. I said the same thing, till I tried it. Now I can't go anywhere without it. I've owned portables from both sat companies and the reception on portables is horrible if you're not around a lot of ground repeaters. With the S50, I never have to worry about reception. When it's in the craddle receiving Sirius "live", I just press a button to tell it to record the songs I like, it records and files the song away, then I take it with me when I need a portable with 50 hours of great music and talk shows. I love it! Give it a chance. The day you buy a "live" satellite portable, you'll most likely be disappointed when you experience the reception limitations inside buildings and around trees, etc. You'll be wishing you had kept the S50. |

That's gay though, cause it's basicly
and Ipod and I have one of those.
I don't want to record shows I want
to be able to listen to it wherever I am.
I don't see value in this product sorry. |

| Ok, here's a question: once you record something on the S50, can you put it into your computer so you can burn it on a cd or put it on another mp3 player? I'm asking because if my S50 is home recording Howard, then how can I take yesterday's Howard show to work with me? |

| the s50 will not let you transfer any of it's recordings to the computer much like you can't with an iPod. You can only do it by plugging the headphone jack into your soundcard while the show is being picked up live or as it's repeated. |

| If I buy the S50 now will they be coming out with something to add on it to make it, live portable in the spring. Maybe I should wait for the next unit that comes out so it can be used as a portable live unit. Why is XM ahead us,with there portable unit already. |

There are many excellent freeware progams that let you transfer the mp4 files from your iPod onto any computer. |

The s50 is an overpriced mp3 player.
If you do the math, you can get a new iPod & a Sirius Starmate Replay for less than the s50, and do everything that the s50 does.
The Starmate lets you do program time recordings. I simply do the audio out into my PC, record with the excellent Audiograbber, and easily transfer the stuff to my iTunes/iPod. There's a couple of extra steps there, but easy to do. |

| MP3 players don't have built in satellite receivers. S50 is perfect for someone who doesn't have an mp3 player (or is looking to upgrade) or a satellite receiver yet. After all the rebates you can pick one up for around $240. I don't think that's overpriced. |

| Is it true that sirius will be coming out with something that will make the s50 a true portable? That would be great |

Yes its an absolute rumor, but there will be an S50 adapter and/or a totally new S50-based unit that will be truly portable by mid-year.
Nothing official yet, but that is what Sirius told investors recently. |

When Sirius says they'll have something by mid-year 2006, expect its release towards the end of 2006, early 2007. They've been late with every product they've released. |
