This is why I refuse to pay big bucks for Sirius equipment at this very early stage.

Better equipment will hopefully evolve out of all this mess.

take it back, get another one. problem solved
USMCMatt
Yeah I'm going to, just wanted to know if anyone else saw this... problem is NOBODY has them, once BB stocks up I'll take it back.
Reverend Ozz
How long have you had it?
SiriusSucks
I've seen the same problem on two Sportster Replay's. My third is starting to have similar problems (sigh). I'll just keep taking them back and getting the subscription moved over until I get one that works.

When you move your subscription over to the new unit, make sure you tell the Sirius sales reps that it was a defective unit so they don't try to charge you an activation fee.

Matt, if you have a blue backlight then I assume you have a Sportster Replay. I’ve had my replay for several months now and have had no problems with it. Well I do have a few scratches on the display but that’s my fault. Sorry you’re having problems with yours. FWIW I had the original Sportster almost a year then gave it to someone else and it’s still working well also.

my back ground blue light goes out on my replay...problem is i have a lifetime sub. i talked to sirius today and they told me no problem just send it in cuz it is under warrenty and i wont have to pay $75 to transfer. the rep told me that if it still works i might want to wait 3-5 weeks cuz they are sooooooooo backed up.

I had a sportster replay and the screen only lit up when it got warm. Took it back got a new one, been cool since then. But if you look on the sirius site at the new streamer replay, the display is black.I think this is the replacement for the sportster so wait for where u got yours to get those and cop that. I am.
Dead Messiah
Make sure you don't have the auto-dim feature enabled.
Miller
The streamer replay and the sportster replay are the exactly the same except the streamer has a black faceplate.

I wish there was a way to turn the display off compeletly. I leaved my Sporster on all night so that I wake to Howard when my alarm goes off and I my room is filled with an erie blue glow.

No kidding. That light lights up the whole room. I turned the brightness all the way down, and stuck a dark blue Post-It note over the display to get the brightness down.

my friend at work just told me his back light just crapped out on him after 3 weeks.he is going to wait to see if he can get the streamer replay.hope mine holds up.

Why dont you just use the alarm clock feature? Thats what I do and you can leave it off

On the Starmate you can dim the display.

1. Hit Menu button
2. go to Settings
3. go to Display Options
4. Choose Brightness
5. Dim it all the way down

It will really cut back on that annoying BLUE GLOW at night.
ZoSo925
Play with the Contrast options. WHen I first got mine it needed adjustment
Phil_Thegiu
I remembered seeing this thread before and low and behold after 1 month on my Sportster Replay the "5" button no longer lights up. It's not annoying enough to go thru the hassle of returning it yet, but I'm wondering now if this is a prelude of more problems.
OJ's a Butcher
I read somewhere (SiriusBackstage maybe) that many people have this problem with buttons going out.
Mine has the Menu and the FastForward very dim.

I would exchange it but I don't think anyone has the Sportster Replay in stock, and even Sirius said to wait a few months till they can do an advance exchange. I don't mind right now, it works fine and I can still see the buttons but will will exchange it since it does look a little odd with the two buttons so dim.

My menu button went really dim for a few days a week ago and now it's back to full strength. Now the 1,2,6,7 buttons are really dim....unless the signal goes out or the display I'm not really that concerned...I'll probably upgrade to something better anyway in about 6 months or so.
Abba
I've had mine since 9/05 and I use it every single day. I even took it down to Domnincan republic on vacation in November and the only problem I have is the 6 and 7 are dimmer then everything else.

by the way, you can protect the screen easily. Go get the screen protectors for the PSP, it's only $5. By the way, My sportster travels alot too, between my truck and the boombox in my office. No real issues to report. the S50 is another story. I haven't seen one display in any store that's working.

Holy Jeez!!! My backlight totally crapped out as well. Don't know if it is because I have the unit on now 12+ hours a day due to Howard's channels. I called, got nowhere with Sirius, so I had to call Crutchfield and twist their arm to send me a replacement. However, not due to ship until Feb 10th. Unfortunately I think the units are poorly constructed.
