I need to record Howard's show since I can't listen to it at work. Should I buy the radio shark and use my Sportster's FM transmitter to record on my computer with the Shark receiver and its software, or should I buy the home docking kit for the Sportster, hook it directly to my computer (I have a Mac), and use some other software to record? I'll need to be able to program the software to record at a certain time and be able to save the audio in a format that I can burn to a CD and play in my car's CD player or on my PC at work.
I figure since the home docking kit and the Shark cost about the same ($50) that cost isn't really an issue here. While recording with the Shark may be simpler since it has it's own software, the sound quality will probably be better plugging directly from the docking kit to the computer.
Any thoughts? I want to make sure I do this the right way and don't have to buy more equipment in two weeks to get this to work properly.
If you suggest buying the docking kit then what Mac software do you suggest for handling the recording? Oh, and I don't want to spend a bunch of money on software either. |

I feel like a shill but I really don't work for these guys. I've posted this before. Sorry if this is not what you're looking for.
I've been using the PoGo Radio Your Way LX to record Howard for about a year.
It's portable and works great for recording Sirius, (from my starmate replay).
No intermediate steps with, downloading, converting, burning, etc. I records in mp3 format automatically.
Just set it to record, take it with you where ever and listen through a head set, the built in external speaker, (marginal sound quality) or an external speaker set up.
It has the added benefit of being able to record FM and AM, (if anyone even cares anymore).

You can even convert your entire CD library into MP3’s and experience the freedom to carry them with you. The Radio YourWay LX has excellent fidelity with built-in EQ options.
It can also be used as a digital voice recorder to record transcriptions, personal reminders, or other voice memos directly through the built-in Mic. Up to 8.5 hrs of audio files can be saved in MP3, WMA, or RVF formats to the internal 128MB memory.

You can also upload your recordings directly to a PC or MAC with an included USB cable, so there is no limit to the amount of recording you can do. In addition to archiving your audio files, the Radio YourWay LX can also be used as a portable storage device to store and hold your digital pictures, digital videos, digital music, or any other type of data file. Looks pretty cool. But two hundred bucks... I think I can get the recording done for less. Come to think of it, I have a tiny 256MB iRiver device with an FM tuner that records. I'm going to try recording the show to this and see how it goes. It might do the trick. |

Radio Shark sounds pretty good through the computer. It's not perfect, but for talk radio it is great. I bought one and was very happy with it, but then after thinking about it I returned it. Reason being I would then have to download to an ipod or similar equip. Since I don't have one theres another couple of hundred dollars. I decided to saty ghetto and keep going on my cassettes unitl streaming begins (hopefully shortly) and then I only have to buy software to record the streaming and then maybe put on cd or buy an ipod then. Buy Radio Shark from Compusa as you have 21 days to return if you don't like it or streaming begins. Liberal return policy if you keep all packaging.

| I have the xact boombox receiver and I bought a cable from radio shack for 6 bucks that comes from the boombox headphone jack and goes to my audio line in on my pc. I have Replay Radio 6 software to record directly to mp3 and you can schedule times and split tracks to. I paid 35 bucks for the software. I have to record while I am at work so I set the timer leave my radio on and record from 6 to 11. When I get home I transfer evrything to my ipod for the next day. |
