Fm Stations Overpowering Sirius Signal on the Sportster in a car - Click HERE to go to the original thread with graphics

I live in a major metro area. I only have one station that gives me a clear channel to pick up Sirius without the fm station bleeding over the Sirius signal. In certain areas of the city it doesn't work as well. My antenna is on the roof, but damn near every station on the dial has broadcasting. At dawn it's real bad in the car because even more stations come through the dial on fm. Is there any way help the Sirius signal or Sportster override the fm stations? At the house it works great.

There are products called FM Signal Boosters (do a google search) that you can get to increase the signal of your transmitter. I guess it could increase the signal of the station you don't want, but you could buy one and see if it works.

Thanks, sounds like a starting point.

this requires a bit of work, but you can get an fm modulator that is hard wired. It comes from your sirius radios' FM or Antenna out and goes to the back of the radio. It plugs into the antenna jack on the back of the radio, and the regular car antenna plugs into the modulator (right by the back of the radio).

This allows you to increase the FM signal of the sirius radio, and feed it right into the radio so it is as strong as it gets.

An easier solution, if you have an antenna on your car that is easily removed, just unscrew it. As a result, your car won't get good signals from any stations, but your sirius will still get picked up well.

Good Luck

I was having that problem finding a station. I have to switch stations at times. I think I may have finally found one. But I'll keep in mind the tips. Thanks.

just get the tape cassette adapter guys, plug it into the audio spot on the side of the sirius (i have the starmate replay) and then just pop the cassette into the player and just like that, clear crisp sirius reception..sure it's one more wire but it's no big deal compared to the quality you will get..and it only costs like 10 bucks at anywhere, circuit city, radio shack, etc...

You can also install (may require professional installation unless you have the patience & time) a switching unit that splits your antenna and the direct out/RCA jack. I believe this works similar to the hard wired FM transmitter. It works the same way a home kit does that is plugged directly into your stereo.

I wonder if an fm-transmitter like this one, plugged into the headphone jack of your Sirius receiver, would boost the signal enough to overpower interference from any competing station:

Thanks, I'll check that out. Also heard about the antenna idea from a friend.

i have heard several people say that they take the cars antena off while using their satelite radio and get less interferince that way. better sound less static. when using the fm modulator that is.

The obvious issue here is that he may not have a tape deck.

The other issue is that some of the crappier radios (XACT visor for instance) don't have a volume control. I bought one of these and threw it out a month later and got the Starmate Replay, which is by far the best radio I have used.

I ordered and installed ( just unplug the antenna wire from the back of your car stereo and plug this in line) From Crutchfeld.com
It works on any Sirius radio with an FM out plug. It switches off the feed from the terrestrial antenna and puts the feed from the satellite through direct.
Works great - No more static or bleed through.

Thanks for posting this. I've had this problem in different areas where I drive. It's not impossible to change the FM FRQ while driving but I'd rather not if I don't have to. Right now I've had to change it a few times. I wish my car had offered Sat as an option when I bought it. They do now but not in '04. I can't disconnect the ant (I don't have one) nor do I have a cassette player.

If anyone has tried this please post and let us know how it worked.
