He doesn't work for XM, he works for Fox Sports Radio, which is on terrestrial radio and also carried on XM. |

Well, this will make some people happy since several have been mentioning his name.
I heard him in the mid-90's when he was in the Bay Area. He's a pretty good broadcaster, but his shtick did get old for me. From what I read in those other threads, he's branched out some from when I heard him. Back then (or maybe it was KNBR management) he stuck to sports other than his tiresome "pouring" of pretend beers.
I doubt I'll listen much, but I like that they're trying some different things out. |

If someone came from XM it would be ok, but why would you let someone with financial interest in another company learn about the inner workings of yours?
I guess that the fact that he doesn't broadcast from there (as I just read) softens the blow, but a financial interest in another company can harm him. |

He had this running thing where he'd offer callers beers and hit a pouring sound effect. People would even specify their brands, etc. Over and over and over, almost every call, and sometimes people would call only to get their "beer" and wouldn't even have another question or comment. He also has an exaggerated gravely voice and slurry delivery, like he's trying too hard to be your way cool drinking buddy or something. He would also throw in some "I got so hammered" drinking stories.
He did show glimpses of wit and good broadcasting ability in some occasional rants, but I think he was fairly reigned in. He actually was quite knowledgable and prepared as a sports guy, which got overshadowed by all the drinking shtick. |

From what I hear, his show is just simulcast on XM for which he gets paid nothing extra, so there's not much of an interest. |

Fox Sports Radio writes his checks. XM pays Fox Sports for their content, but I doubt that Ferrall gets anything from XM other than exposure to more listeners from that deal.
Fox News is carried on XM also, do you think that they write checks to Bill O'Reilly and all the air personalities on Fox News? |

I used to listen to him around 1995. Back then allmost none of the Talk Shows talked about gambling. He was one of the few, now they all do it.
He was let go because everyone in MGT and the other hosts hated him for real. The local host said on air what an asshole he was, useally they don't talk shit about each other on the air.
I hear him fill in for other FOX host all of the time. He is like a constant sub untill he finds a job he likes. He keeps saying he wants to come back to SF. |

I agree..."Ferrall on the bench" was the funniest sports show I ever heard. WAY better than that homo Jim Rome. I'm looking
forward to an uncensored version. A little variety is nice. And

I proposed the idea here on SFN for a Ferrall show on Howard 100/101 and also e-mailed Ferrall and told him to get moving and try to land a show on Howard's Sirius channels. Now it happens. I think he'll be a great fit. Obviouslly some people won't like him but you can never please everybody. |

Hey chucklehead, why don't you at least give Ferrall a chance before you say he sucks? Or just don't tune in and shut the fuck up if it's not your bag. It's impossible for Howard to program his two stations with 24 hours of programming that everybody will like. So quit acting like if you were the programming director it'd somehow be better. Leave the programming of Howard's channels to the professionals and you stick to what you're good at: watching gay porn with your pants at your ankles. |

Ferrall use to be on air in Philly, on WYSP, maybe 8, 10 years ago. His show was on in the evenings; I really liked the show when I had a chance to listen. His show mostly focused on sports and he was very knowledgeable about most sports, players, teams, etc. I would welcome him and his show to Howard 100 or Howard 101.

Ferrell did a show out of Las Vegas for the SEN, the Sports Entertainment Network, covering sports, point spreads, etc. Very interesting from a sports standpoint.
I wouldn't call him a Howard clone. I heard him in the early 1990's, around 1992. I think he went to Atlanta after that. |

He knows his shit when it comes to sports. And he was definitely reigned in... he's probably been thrown off more stations for being outrageous than Howard has. |

He always had sound effects like beer pouring and talked about strombolis. He knows his hockey and waggering. I'll tune in just to hear. Howard is good at giving guys a second chance.
